  1. That's too bad, BB kings gone. I understand Hollands decision, it's all about demographics. We did two Norway cruises out of the city of Rotterdam with the majority of passengers being dutch. BB kings was packed every single night they performed. I enjoyed it a lot.

On a voyage of the viking cruise the demographic of passengers was international with the majority being north american. On this cruise there were never more than a dozen people in the nest during BB kings. I guess that overall attendance was bad and Holland scrapped it. I hope they will reinstate them on european cruises.

  2. ...........It caught the ship full on the portside and as were docked portside alongside it started to push the ship away from the dock, very fast. There was no way the mooring lines could hold against this impact wind and the bowlines broke free. And thus the bow drifted over to the shallow side of the basin and for a short time touched the seabed. All emergency crews, including yours truly, went to battle stations to contain the situation which was done very well. Kudo’s to all involved. Once the wind and the rain had passed and the tide came back in we moved the ship back to the dock............

In 2019, Holland America Line will bring its newest ship, the New State Dam, to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam, the ship travels to various destinations. In addition, HAL increases capacity for the Netherlands in 2019, with a record number of departures from the ports of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. During the year, no less than 35 cruises are offered on departure from these Dutch ports.

The New Statendam, the latest Holland America Line Pinnacle-class ship, makes a series of 7- to 14-day trips to the Norwegian fjords, Baltic states, Iceland and the Northern Cape. The New State Dam replaces the Koningsdam, which since its inception in 2016 has dumped from Amsterdam in the summer. The Prinsendam, the smallest ship in the fleet, with a capacity of 835 passengers, continues to travel to special destinations and smaller ports.

The flagship of HAL, Rotterdam, departs traditionally from the port city of Rotterdam during the summer. The classic ship brings guests to Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom and Russia. Every Holland America Line ship has its own ambiance, so guests can always choose a ship that fits with your personal preference.

The main facts for 2019 in a row

35 cruises depart from Amsterdam and Rotterdam, the highest ever and six more than planned for 2018.

The New Statendam offers 15 departures, the Prinsendam 10 departures and the Rotterdam 10 departures.

A capacity of more than 59,000 beds, a record and an increase of 11% compared with 2018 is available.

Fourteen of the cruises offered make a trip to the Norwegian fjords of 7 nights. Ideal for guests who make a cruise for the first time because of the local departure (no flight required) and the offer of one or two seasons, on which one can enjoy all the facilities on board.

    New Statendam

The New Statendam is the second Pinnacle-class Holland America Line ship with accommodations for 2,666 guests. The New Statendam will arrive in Amsterdam on May 5, 2019, after its transatlantic crossing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. At the end of the Dutch summer season, the ship sails to the Mediterranean, from which it makes cruises to various destinations. Just like the Koningsdam sister ship, the elegant ship offers several innovative concepts, public areas and a wide range of restaurants and entertainment. Including the Music Walk with three different live music locations: Lincoln Center Stage, where chamber music is being audited; Billboard Onboard with hits from present and past; and B.B. King Blues Club Band, with a music program full of soul and funk.

  4. We cruised in May and it was much too cold for us to stand (or sit) outside all day. ...................

We were there in may as well on a back to back Vancouver-Seward-Vancouver and thus twice glacier bay. Boy it was cold, but with proper clothing I stayed outside almost all the time with an occasional short visit to my wife who had made basecamp in the crowsnest.

  5. The bay is so large it takes the whole day to travel up and down with usually a one hour stop at the farthest glacier. The scenery is beautifull and wildlife can be seen from the ship, otters, whales, bears etc. Rangers join the ship at the beginning for wildlife spotting and narrative.

Make sure you are out and about, don't stay in your cabin. The bowdeck will be open and together with the aft pool deck and promenade is the best place for viewing. If it gets too cold for you the crowsnest is a good indoor alternative, but chairs will be difficult to come by after early morning.

    Enjoy!

To give you an example, this is not on HAL and not my trip but it gives a good impression:

  6. We don't accept creditcards online, unfortunately.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Unfortunate indeed. Maybe time to change that. Not every creditcard has the pinsystem, the US as an example, so they are useless in the machines. And that includes master/visa cards originating from the US.

I have seen this many times at the amsterdam airport railwaystation. The only thing the frustrated tourists could do is join the line at the ticket office.

  7. .

This rating was also undertaken by KLM and he has indeed been flying " on the line" as a First Officer ( he never made it to captain) with KLM Cityhopper for many years. KLM ( and other pilots going through the Schiphol Crew Centre) see him fairly often in his KLM Uniform. He acts just like any other colleague.

    My bold.

This sounds rather negative. Isn't it the case that being a "guest" pilot, like ivw pilots, he never is elligable to become captain and that it has nothing to do with capabilities?

I fully concur with the rest of your comments and have seen him many times in the "bemanningencentrum"
