  1. I didn't think they did. I see that they have now replaced the Balcony promo with the Super Splash Sale (same thing but I guess you don't need to get a balcony?:')). This one explicitly states the offers can be combined with Free at Sea, however, when you go through the choices upon checking out you are only given the option of two offers so I'm really not sure what's going on.

Because for Free at Sea you pick which 2 you want. For the other it just appears - no need to pick anything. You should book over the phone so you don't have any issues or added confusion.

  2. It's my understanding that if you book your next cruise while actually on a ship, there are some perks to be had - if so what are they? And did you find it worth it?

(We will be on a European cruise in Aug and are already thinking of a Hawaiian cruise in winter 2018)

They used to offer an additional Free at Sea if you booked onboard but there were restrictions on changing the reservation, etc. The latest offer I heard was like 2 category upgrade. Worth it would be up to you.

  3. Slightly off topic but I have a question about my cruise certificate. If I book a cruise during the $50 deposit special for my husband, son, and myself. Will the cruise certificate cover my sons deposit since it is $250 or will I still owe the deposit for him since the cruise certificate covers deposits for 2 passengers? Just curious before I book thanks

The deposit is $50 per person - 3 people = $150. If your deposit is $150 you can apply the cruise certificate towards the room. It is for the cabin - not per person.

  4. The drinks in the solo lounge aren't free.

There will be Haven & Suite cocktail parties where drinks are free. Also, if she is giving up her room to share, she probably would be paying less and getting all the Haven perks so can use the difference for drinks.

  5. OP - not sure where in NYC you are but someone posted the Carlos location above. Same owner/supplier so they should be the same as you would get on Breakaway. Like someone said in NY you can get those in basically any decent bakery - definitely in Italian bakeries. But please...they are rainbow cookies! :)

  6. I'd be interested in what you find out, do you think a weekly pass or just a few days ? As i like the pool, but the looks I've seen are terribly crowded , and i can get around well on scooter with finding chair and than into pool, do its a question for me :)

It is very rare to be able to purchase anything but a weekly pass.

  7. Great job BirdTravels! Very considerate to post this stuff while you are vacationing!

Is this Jobson's Cove? Or is this closer to Horseshoe Bay beach?

The first pic says Welcome to Horseshoe Bay Beach but it didn't copy in your quote.

  8. This doesn't answer your question, but I thought I'd mention it in case you don't already know. All the the ships you are going on (except the Jade) have solo traveler lounges where interested solos get together with a member of the cruise director's team early each evening and have a chance to meet each other and make plans for meals and activities. The staff member usually sets up MDR dinners for anyone interested in eating as a group. A good way to meet people and find out what is happening on board.

Just to add...even though the Jade and similar ships do not have a solo lounge, they do have a solo coordinator who arranges meetings etc. There was a large solo group on the Jade when I went in January.

  9. Factor in time of year & it might not be so crowded. If you know you want to eat at 8pm each night, you can make yourself reservations for whichever specialty restaurants at 90 days out. No need for reservations in the included restaurants.

If you are looking at a balcony, check prices for an aft or a spa balcony. The aft balconies are larger & the Spa cabins include the spa pass.

I've been able to have a relaxing cruise even when sailing in the peak of summer or at Christmas. And every cruise is different! Sometimes the crowds are in unexpected places.

Escape waterfront deck does not go all the way around but if you start in the front of the ship, you can walk all the way around the aft and back & then cut in through the doors to the other side...or you can just turn around & go back.

  10. What would you do?

Stay where are planned or jump ship to the smaller one?

Just to clarify - the size difference isn't huge but Epic is bigger and holds more passengers. Also the Epic has weird bathroom layouts so youtube some cabin videos to get an idea.

I wouldn't add the Escape itinerary into the mix unless the price was great as I'm pretty tired of the Bahamas - Florida cruises. You should look into the ports & decide what is best for your family.

  11. Since I don't know you and have no idea what sort of music or entertainment you or your DH would like, go to:

    https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/jade/whats-on-board/Entertainment

It lists the shows on the Jade & brief descriptions. For the Jade, you can pretty much wander in & out of a show as you want - unless they close the aisles for a few minutes for performers.

The other option - I know it sounds crazy but you could spend 30 minutes apart & go to the shows by yourself!

  12. Yes they have a bidding process now. People say once you are about 80 days out, if you log in you will see it. But you still can't pick your cabin that way. If you are looking for an upgrade deal then that is the way to do it. Otherwise I thought you could still call to pay to upgrade at the current rates. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.)

For the room you want to change, go online, see what is available, pick a cabin and then call to see how much to switch to room XXXX.

The prices on my August Breakaway sailing went up about $30pp for most categories when we hit the 90 day out mark the other day.

  13. No rules - you can have 12 people sleep in there if you want - just can't book them into it. The walls are very thin - I heard every toilet flush from the cabins around me. That said, there is plenty of room for a pack n play in the room.

  14. And you're spot on. Tipping should always be about the level of service.

I've been flabbergasted at least twice reading something similar to below on CC:

'If the service is good I'll tip 20% and if it's bad 15%'. The craziest thing I've read on here.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Exactly!!! If someone goes out of their way & provides good service, they tip 5 cents on the dollar more?

  15. the Sister is a Vegan, so fairly limited choices of course. Thanks for link above, but trying to find menus for Jade.

On a related not - we both get drinks package, but she is not which is fine. One glass of wine a day is alot for her. We make up for it... lol (yes, we are in a suite, so no requirement for 3rd person to buy it)

Vegan in specialty will be even more limited. Specialty menus are pretty standard across the line. I sailed Jade in January & menus were pretty close to what are being posted for Breakaway and others. If she's vegan, I don't think I would bother with the SDP but instead just speak to maître d or waiters who may be able to accommodate her with something amazing that is off menu - same in the MDRs.

  16. Here is the pricing : https://www.ncl.com/onboard-packages/dining-packages

Here are the details : https://www.ncl.com/specialty-dining-package/faq

We have a 3rd guest traveling with us. We get 6 meals covered on a 10 day cruise. Trying to figure out is 3rd person should buy the package or just pay per night. Are the speciality all "a la carte" or do some just have a fixed charge. The main reason for asking is we often do not do the speciality even if covered. buffet and MDR seem to work pretty well.

Not all are a la carte. See the guide - https://www.ncl.com/sites/default/files/Dining_Guide.pdf

You can check menus to see if it would be worth it but depends on the person you are travelling with and their appetite.

  17. We are not past paid in full to date. So my sister could cancel her room and we would upgrade and add her to our room is the plan. I called NCL, and they said that there is a couch and bunk bed in the living room my boys would sleep on, so my sister would still have her own room and bathroom.

What ship are you on because I've been in the two bedroom suites on a bunch of them and the bunk bed has always been in the bedroom. Only a single sleeper couch is in the living room on the Dawn, Jewel and Breakaway

None of the ships have bunk beds in the living room - just the couch.
