  1. I got into Rome last night, but my clothes did not. We are on the EPIC this Wednesday. If my suitcase doesn't show up tomorrow, I will need to buy enough clothes to get me through until May 8th. What types of shops are available on board?

I am trying to stay positive and enjoy my first trip to Italy, but this really stinks. I pretty much bought an entire new wardrobe for this trip and a new job, oh and I have an interview the next morning when I get home, and the outfit I was going to wear is in this suitcase :(

  2. Hi,

Has anyone experience of these? If so are they worth the money? I do manage with drugs but they are not without side effects so would be interested to hear if people's opinions re the bands.

    Thank you

    Ceri:)

When do you cruise? I will let you know! I bought one for my cruise on April 25th. I have always had motion sickness. I can't even ride in a car unless I am driving. I tried it out on a 25 minute road trip on winding roads while reading, and I did not get nauseous! First time in a long time I was able to be a passenger, and not feel sick or dizzy. I am hoping I have the same success on my cruise, and I will post my experience.

  3. Dear Ceb65,

We already set up alternate with tour company.

Herculaneum is open on May 1 for sure, so we have amended itinerary to Herculaneum, Mt Vesuvius and Oplontis. If Pompeii does open we will revert to that instead of Oplontis.

Since you are on the same cruise, would you be interested to join our tour and share the cost?

FYI I plan to set up tours for Florence and Rome as well. If I can get 8 persons we would be paying about 50% of what NCL is charging and travelling in a much smaller group.

Thank you Mellowyellow999, we already have a full tour that day. We are part of a tour going to Florence with room for 2 more seats if you are interested, it is a small group of 6. It is a full day in Florence, the details are a couple posts back.

  4. Thanks for all the great advice! I did by a small lighted mirror, but still not sure if it will be enough to help. I didn't want to bring a bigger one for obvious reasons ( might get broken on long flights), but I might look into a better one than I bought, because DH will need to see to shave as well. I have seen small LED puck lights that have magnets on them on Amazon, and I am considering a pack of them to put on the ceiling over vanity, if they don't work DH can use them in the garage at home.

  5. Hello everyone,

I am looking for suggestions for the dim lighting situation on the Epic. We cruise at the end of April. I did read reviews prior to booking, but was wondering if anyone brought supplemental lighting, such as LED puck style lights? They are battery powered so that should be allowed, I think. I booked an inside cabin, because I never used the balcony on my last cruise, and figured I will be using the room mainly to sleep and shower, I didn't think about how much light I would lose. I don't want to scare my fellow cruisers when I try to do my make-up in the dark;p

    Any advice would be appreciated!

  6. Hello everyone,

I have read recommendations for arriving at FCO in Rome 3 hours early for international flights, which we will do. But we are flying to Olbia, Sardinia after our cruise and were wondering if arriving 2 hours before the flight would be enough time since it is in the same country? We plan to take the train from the port to get to the airport and the flight is at 2:25 PM. So I am wondering what time to disembark (we will self-disembark) and use the trains to get to the airport. This is our first time flying to Rome.

    Thanks.

  7. They have put up a sign. Because greedy tourists were taking away bags full and bragging about they are very sensitive about tourists picking up the glass. I would not want to be the one caught taking any.

Wow, how sad for everyone else. I only brought home a couple of pieces to put in my office. It is a shame that greedy people ruin things for everyone else. It is still a neat place to visit and see all the great artwork done by the locals.

  8. First time cruising with Norwegian so never knew about bidding for an upgrade. We are booked in an inside with only the balcony as as option for an upgrade.

Say I put in the maximum amount for the upgrade, do I get any type of choice of location or do they just assign one to me? Probably not in a desired location since those were already booked by people choosing which cabin they wanted. Does Norwegian hold back certain amount of cabins and not put them available for people to book just so they can get people to bid on upgrade?

Thank you for explaining the process to me.

I was given the choice of bidding on a balcony or mini-suite. I bid on both, but after reviewing the layout of the Epic, I realized that my inside cabin was in a prime location and decided to keep it. Our cruise is port heavy, so we will be getting up early and leaving the ship almost every morning, so wouldn't get much use out of the balcony anyway, which is why I booked an inside room in the first place. Last time I cruised we had a balcony and I probably used it 5-10 min a day if that, making the extra cost not worth it to me. I also don't like the fact that they will give you what ever is left, so it could be under the kitchen, bowling alley or bar. You may get lucky and get a great location, so you just have to decide if it is worth the risk of given up your picked cabin for a random one.

  9. Hi everyone,

We will be in Cannes for my husband's birthday in April, and I would like to make reservations at L'Affable for lunch. Has anyone ever dined there? Or perhaps another nice place that you recommend? Their grand Marnier Soufflé looks wonderful! Thanks in advance for any advice, this is our first trip to the Med.

  10. I have been trying to reserve tickets through the Vatican website and it will not take my payment! I even called my bank to see if they were blocking it, they said no. Has anyone ever had problems with their website? I also had trouble with the Borghese Gallery's website, but was able to go through Paypal. I don't want to pay extra through a third party, but I would like to get my time reserved as there are only two spots open for the guided tour on that day. I go in April. Thanks for any advice in advance!

  11. Hi2you,

My husband and I are taking this same cruise a few weeks before you! I am taking a mixture of casual and dressy clothes. We will be traveling for 3 weeks so I want enough variety to have choices. During the day I want to be comfy and in the evening I will dress a little more dressy. Nice tee tops and capris or khakis with my Birkenstock's during the days and dress slacks and nicer tops for evenings and maybe a dress or skirt. One of the reasons I chose NCL is because I do not wish to do any formal wear, as we are trying to pack light and our snorkel equipment gets top priority over clothes or shoes!

  12. As an example: my largest bag that I've taken on a trip in Europe (since I started traveling solo) is my Osprey Sojourn convertible rolling bag (it's a roller and has good supportive backpack straps for when I need to carry over rough terrain). It's dimensions are 25x14x14. I can easily put it up in the overhead in the First Class section of all the Trenitalia trains I've traveled on (including the Leonardo to/from FCO).

I always have my cable lock with me. It's not just for trains. I'll lock a bag in a hotel room (yes, in sketchy areas, I'll find something to lock it to - even a bathroom drain pipe!), I'll lock a bag in my rental car. It's not just Europe - I'll lock my bag in the US, too...

    Thank you for the info.

    Cissy

  13. WOW, sorry to hear that someone stole your luggage. We will be taking the train a couple of times while in Rome. Can you tell me what size bag fits in the overhead? I don't think I will be able to just bring a carry on due to bringing my snorkel gear, but I am thinking I will be able to fit everything in a 24" suitcase. Will that fit in the overhead? I like the tip on chaining them together,so thanks everyone for all your good tips. This is our first trip to Europe, and I am trying to figure transportation issues out before I get there.
