  1. We think a lot is about location. If you are interested in a very European Style hotel we would suggest the Hotel Colon. And if you can splurge a few extra Euros, try to book a room with a Cathedral view. The hotel is located in the very popular Gothic Quarter just across the street from the Cathedral.

I have stayed there twice with the cathedral. There are always some type of music or dancing going on in front of the cathedral. Loved opening the shutters and listening to it. The location is very handy. It is European style.

You didn’t ask but I am going to say it anyway, we did a private food tour, it was fantastic. We went from a neighborhood fisherman cafe to a bar that caters to white collar workers for lunch.

  2. I have been coming since the 1970’s, One element is what are you going to see on other islands. Many islands have rock platforms that where used. If you are going to see them on another tour you might not to see them on this tour. If you can find tour with some one who knows archaeology, then I would go with them.

To me, Tahiti isn’t a really exciting island. My favorite things were the museums and the botanical garden. But understand that these are not large and I have met people who were disappointed in them.

The activity I really live on any of the FP island is listening to the singing in church.

  3. think we would do one of the other itineraries as I enjoyed the Cook Islands but did not find that it added anything extra that I thought was unique to the trip. Teking was good, but we thought the snorkeling was better in Bora Bora and on Vahine. Rarotonga was good to accomplish my Wife's shopping goal, but otherwise not much to see. Having to anchor outside the lagoon was a negative compared to the wonderful anchoring throughout the Society Islands.

I have stayed 10 days in Cooks Islands and have also done it as part of a PG cruise. Spending the 10 days was very special because we got to know some of the locals and had wonderful adventures. But the trip with the PG was my least favorite. All the special things we experienced on the other trip was not possible in the short time the PG provided. In a nut shell, I agree you.

  4. Look at the Paul Gauguin cruises. It is a line made for active adults since it primarily revolves around water activities in port. Activities on board are things like lectures by Cousteau, native dance troupes, and Polynesian crafts. No Bingo, no art auctions, no hairy chest contests.

Caution: If you are someone who likes to be entertained instead of finding entertainment in talking to people, then this line isn't for you.

  5. Hi Kimc. We are doing the reverse cruise in Oct. I agree about booking cooks through the boat. Vava'u is the one that I did book with a tour group directly. I used hakau adventures. There is no deposit. You just pay at the time of the tour. It has great reviews and they have been great in communicating with me.

  6. Yes, it is the blue bag I was asking about. I found them handy for going to the pool and tooling around town instead of using the heavier back packs. Since we bring our own snorling equipment, we bring a mesh bag for them. One reason I was asking because of the zippered one I got on the Tere Moana. I didn't know if it was fleet wide or just on the Tere Moana. We have 6 days after the cruise and I wanted to be sure I had something to take my sunscreen, book, etc. to the beach.

  7. I have begun getting my list together for our Oct. Trip. Last time on the PG we got those great string bags. They really came in handy. Are they still providing them or have they changed what they provide?

  8. I am having a hard time finding much info for this stop. I know we will be using a tender for a wet landing in a spot where the snorkeling is bad. I know the Beqa lagoon is suppose to be a great place but I can't figure how to get there. What I can't find is information on local tours or taxis. I ship is only offering one excursion and that is the fire walking. Does anyone have any more information for me?

  9. Who is going to be on the Tere Moana is going to be the luck of the draw. When we were on it, there were no honeymooners. Their were mainly couples but they weren't joined at the hip. Everyone met in the lounge before dinner and groups formed from there. One of the women in our group was a solo and was always included in any activity.

Being a TA cruise, the size of the ship may be a problem. There are only a couple of public areas and very little in enrichment talks. The gym is shoebox size and the library gets crowded very quickly.

  10. We were on the Tere monoa last nov/dec. we were on level 4 and experienced the heat for the first half of the trip. The last half was okay. I think level 5 had a more difficult time than level 4. There was only one day in the dining room that was unbearable. The rest were tolerable.
