  1. Going next summer on an 8 day cruise.

Looking to go diving, and have days available in La Romana and AmberCove.  Cruise does not offer diving excursion for either of those locations, but i'm willing to do a non-cruise excursion.

Does anyone have any opinions about diving either of those?  Very good or very bad?

    Thank you!

@Bluewake Oh no! I hate to hear that. I was wondering, if perhaps, we paid more because of the reservation, but I guess your experience answers that question. The gentleman did try to ask me, "how long would you like to keep the cart?", to which I replied, " the rental is for the entire day"... and he smiled sheepishly. Again, I believe that booking ahead of time cut down on what could have been any funny business about the return time.

As @CruisingWalter mentioned, I do wish there was some sort of oversight regarding the rentals. I don't necessarily want it to run through the cruise lines, though, because then it will be even more expensive. I'm not sure of the best solution.

I hope you enjoyed your time exploring in Bimini!

When you say "jitney", do you mean the tram that takes you right from the cruise ship?

Was the golf cart stop the last stop on the tram?  (we've been to bimini many times but not by cruise, and i'm finding that things are different a bit when a cruise ship is in, so I'm trying to get as much information as I can )

    Thank you!

  3. Anyone know if we can use credit card for golf carts or is it strictly cash?

we have used someone when staying in the island at an Airbnb and he was cash only.
Just wondering if any of the rentals up where we get off th ship take credit cards.

    thanks!

  4. I haven't done it, but one time that we stayed on Bimini, we saw 2 ladies who had gotten bikes up on the north end (we came over on the FastFerry from Fort Lauderdale), and I swear we saw them at least 3 times in one day, all over the island.

I've only even driven a golf cart on the island, but if you're up to the ride, I think it would be pretty safe.  The majority of vehicles on the roads are golf carts and and a some mopeds these days, so traffic can't go all that fast.

We'll be in Bimini on Oct 31.  Curious to hear about your experience with the cabs, assuming that's what you end up doing.  We were thinking about a golf cart to go down by Radio Beach and visit the Hemingway Bar at Bimini Big Game Club.  Thanks.

You're probably still on a cruise, but wanted to see - how was the golf cart situation?

  6. @roadtripper I'm headed to Bimini in a couple of weeks by cruise.  I've been there a few times, but staying there, not by cruise, and our place always came with a golf cart.  It will be my first time "flagging one down" at the end of the pier.

My big question to you is - when it was time to return the golf cart, had you and "Humpty" designated a time/place to return it?  I'm guessing he was one of the many folks in that first parking lot coming off the pier...  Was he waiting at a certain time, or did you call him to let him know you were all done? Does he just hang there all day?

Did you need to leave him your license or anything?  or was it a "cash to key" transaction? 🙂

Thank you for any info you can give on that!!!!

They skipped it so we had to do the full route, so they could try to sell us a resort pass for $40 pp.  We loved Radio Beach.  I will try to find my review and move it back to the top.

Yeah, I could see them doing that... Thank you for the info, I'd be really confused otherwise 🙂

I cannot believe RCCL is stopping in Freeport; I will  be  there on a cheapo local cruise next week.. if I see anything worth visiting I will let you know.  It was dismal there before hurricanes and COVID….can’t imagine what it is now but would love to support any positive rebuild.

Friends are headed out on Margaritaville this weekend - did you happen to hear anything about Taino Beach on your cruise?

Well, taxi from Fisherman's Village, the last stop on the tram loop before it heads back to the ship.  I didn't go to the beach at Resort World, but talked to several on the tram who did.  Their general response was that "it's a beach" and some felt kind of ripped off to pay $40 pp to use the beach and pool.  However, for people who prefer a resort over a local beach, I am sure it is lovely.

HI! I've been on the tram from taking the fastferry from Florida, but Fisherman's village is the first and last stop - did they not stop there first before heading into resort area? or did they skip it and you had to go through the tram route before getting off there?  I'm not sure if it's different when it's a real cruise ship... (not a huge deal, just curious 🙂

I tried to find your review, but can't... I hope you enjoyed Radio Beach!
    Thank you!

Haven't been yet, (going in September) but from my research, it  seems that at Fisherman's village, all those golf carts parked there are available to rent off the ship or from a land vacay. Dozens and dozens of them.

We are debating a daypass to Resortworlds pool/beach area. since I can't verify if the September jellyfish swarm from last year is yearly or a one time thing, or renting a golf cart and exploring on our own.

I'm not going until November, so I'd love to hear how easy it was to get the golfcart right at the first tram stop in fisherman's village, if you do that!

I have to say, though, having been to Bimini on land vacations, if you're getting a lot of pool time and beach time on the rest of your cruise, get the golf cart and get out of the resort area, and explore the "local" end of the island, it's a great little island.  But of course, if you are looking forward to just chilling, and getting some sun & drinks, the resort is really nice!

    Was at Bimini 12/19/21

    Hotel stuff was expensive.

We spent $60 on a golf cart rental and drove around the island and stopped at the public beach...no charge to be on the beach but all the amenities were there to purchase (food, drinks, chairs, etc)

Where did you rent your golf cart from?  I've been to Bimini a few times, but a cart comes with the cottage.   I Know there are always golfcarts waiting at the first tram stop from the ship (Fisherman's village), but I don't know if those are rentals that have already been reserved, or if you can just rent there?

If you are referring to Tiki Bikin Hut, yes it is still there and has gone thru quite a transformation from the pics I am seeing.  Last time we were there, maybe three years ago, they were re-doing the entire bar and they were serving from folding tables, and coolers of ice. Not a pleasant experience,.  First time was fun, 2nd time not so much.

    Thank you for that!

  13. It's been a few years since I've gone down towards the Fish Fry and the beach down there (Junkanoo Beach?).  A while ago there was a wood bar,the "Tiki Bikini Bar" or something like that. When I tried to map it out, I see a place called JYAH, and googlemap gives me some users-photos.  Looks nicer there than the last time I was there.

Can anyone tell me if it still looks like this?   I"m guessing it's where the beginning of the free beach is, but I can't tell for sure in Google maps.

  14. I will be in Bermuda for a short day (8am-4pm).

Trying to see Hamilton and also have a good amount of time at Horseshoe Beach.

What kind of shopping is there in Hamilton? Should I just save the shopping for the dockyard?

Without "shopping", on a Saturday morning would Hamilton then just be a "walk around and see how pretty the city is"?

Are there any fun bars at 10am on a Saturday in Hamilton?

Thanks for any info anyone can pass along to my broad variety of questioning!!! LOL!

  15. That is a Saturday which means the ferry to Hamilton runs at 9:45 am. The ferry to St. George’s does not run on Saturday. Your ship is scheduled to arrive at 9:00 which does not necessarily meant you would be able get off at 9:00. The ship has to be tied up and clear with the authorities. Whether you can make it depends on how long that takes. I would say with the ferry time being 9:45 you probably can. The tokens are sold at the Visitor Information Center in the cruise terminal but if it looks like time is short or a long line you can pay $5 cash at the ferry. The ferry dock is close, about a five minute walk.

Thank you! I totally missed the weekend schedule - every 15 minutes will help ;)
