  1. what a cabin ........ bigger than a suite, ok... its on deck 2, and right next to the gangway, never bothered me one bit though, its also midship, had a few rough sailings, folk at the back and front of the boat were spewing, not us in our suite in the middle on deck 2....

    would definitely book there again.......

on a sour note, have never seen so many folk moan about trivial things on a cruise before, lounge is cold, coffees aren't free, thomsons are pricing there selves out of the market ... etc etc, every second person,

I had a great time, im happy, that's all that matters

Hi, just checked deck plans and there is no 716,do you mean 718. its same on Spirit ? strange. Roy.

  2. Would recommend the adults only Son Matias Beach Hotel a short hop, skip and a jump from the Santa Lucia.Again beach location, great views, all balconies look out over the bay, excellent food and great entertainment. No AI though

Hi, we have stayed at the son matias a couple of times, very, very good, beach views from most of the rooms, smashing food and entertainment, there were a couple of English staff there as well .still get xmas cards from them even now.Roy.

  3. Thanks Roy, I've had a look and feel reassured! :) Found some more reviews on another cruise site too, am going to get it booked, can't wait to try the Spirit.

That's ok, you will not regret going on the Spirit, we have sailed on her 4 times, 2 years ago we had our wedding blessed on her at sea just out side Piraeus, so she will always have a place in our hearts. We have many friends amongst the crew, the cruise director Richard, waiters Rambo, Sam, Ritchie and Shine. when you go to Kirkwall, do visit the Italian Chapel, its marvellous,Roy.

  4. Hi everyone

Please can some experts on the Spirit help me out....! :o

I'm thinking about booking the Best of British cruise on the Spirit next August. I think there was a similar cruise this year but can't seem to find any reviews, did anyone go on this and what did they think

I'm happy with the current price on offer - £1400 ish for my husband daughter and I, good considering it's within the dreaded summer holidays. Because it's a one off I can't compare prices aganst other cruises and watch for any fluctuations like I normally do, I know it's complete hit and miss but do you think it may change in the near future (yes I know, get my crystal ball out :D) There is free port parking on offer currently - again, can anyone hazard a guess when Thomsons start adding a charge for it.

I'm basing the price on a 1/2 inside cabin. Having done my research I know which areas to avoid. Looking at the deck plan there are only some 4 berth inside cabins available on deck 1 (850s-890s) and no 3 berth. So I assume we will be allocated one of these 4 berth cabins, which seem to be middle/slightly forward - so I reckon any of these will be ok and probalby won't need to prebook a specific cabin, what do you think?

Any assistance would be really appreciated, have posted on the FB group but no luck so far and I really want to get it booked, just got a tax rebate and thought the sensible thing to do would be to put a deposit on a cruise :p

Deb, Wife and I did the uk cruise last August,it was really good, but we were very lucky with the weather, have been on Spirit 4 times, its a lovely ship, nothing glamorous but really friendly, I did a review on here please have a look. Roy.

  5. Our thoughts go out to all the Phillipino crew on all the ships just not Thomsons.they are far away from home and probably no way of contacting their loved ones to make sure they are safe. we are also thinking of the many crew on Spirit that we know, especially Sam,Rambo Ritchie,Elvis and his wife Shine, I do have Shines mail address so may try and get a message through to her, sending all of our thoughts from the members on here. Will also be making a donation soon.

  6. The waiter service restaurant is open from about 6:30 to about 9:00 in the evening and you dine when you prefer (except on the weekly Gala night when there are 2 fixed sittings. You are allocated to one or the other but can change if you wish). Short queues can form around 8:00pm which seems to be a popular time but as soon as the early diners start to leave, tables are quickly re-set so any wait is not very long.

You do tend to be seated with different people each evening but once you get to know the waiters you can request to be seated with a particular waiter if you have a favourite and you may find that other people do the same, so you can end up with the same people each evening, particularly if you dine at the same time each day. We usually dine around 7:00pm and then move on to the first performance in the Broadway Showlounge at around 8:45, leaving the rest of the evening free to sample the other entertainments around the ship. I can't give a comparison with fixed dining as we have never experienced this, but am sure others will. The buffet is also OK in the evenings too, with candles on the tables and the staff in their best uniforms.

The Spirit is a great ship and gets the best feedback scores of all the Thomson ships. She may be getting on a bit but has style, not like the floating tower blocks of other cruise lines. You will love her I am sure.

    Malc.
