  1. You DO realize the the company takes their share of the tips as well, right?

I don't mind the new system... we always tip--but at the end and in cash. I just hope that the crew gets the money. My husband's colleague's wife worked for RCI ,and she told him that the company takes part of the tips. She wasn't a crew member, she worked in the offices. So won't it just make it easier for the company to shave off some more cash for RCI? If someone can tell me for a fact that she is WRONG, then I'll feel better about prepaying tips...

    :(

  2. My husband will rarely sit for a couple hours in one place - at 68 years old, he still works at his same job and is a little energizer bunny. However, he DID sit with me for almost two hours one recent night reading your review and loving the photos! Also, after reading your amazing review he decided HE wanted to experience one of the big ships, so for our 43rd wedding anniversary next month (March) we are sailing on the Oasis, doing the same Western itinerary you did. THANK YOU for putting the idea in his head! We just got off the Freedom two weeks ago, so this will be two cruises in two months! And all because of your amazing, addicting review. EXCELLENT!

  3. I'm not really a foodie, nor do I remember what I ate for dinner each night, so I apologize for my lack of food reports. I will try to get better at that in the future! :)

After dinner, Rachel and I went back to the stateroom to find this little guy...

We had agreed to meet the people we met last night at Jester's again, but we wanted to see the comedy show. So we went there and asked them if they wanted to see it, too. Then we left and went to the late night comedian.

He wasn't very funny. And I think he seriously offended some Puerto Ricans. I mean, everyone expects to get picked on for their stereotype.... but this guy was starting to be a little cruel. He was asking people their jobs. "Any doctors?" Someone said they were a dentist. "Any doctors?" haha... hadn't heard that before. Someone else raised their hand as being a doctor, a surgeon. "Where do you work?" Puerto Rico. "Any doctors?" Dude... PR is US territory and completely credible. No one is laughing.

So he was looking for teachers. A lady was a teacher in Puerto Rico. "No, I mean real teachers." What the heck????? That's just being a jerk! The lady seemed mad.

That seems like REALLY poor entertainment planning by RCI! I'm assuming that, as the cruise left from San Juan, most of the cruisers aboard were Puerto Ricans! What a gaffe! Sorry to hear this!

  4. Love your review - it's especially fun for me as I'm an older American who enjoys the way Brits speak/write. "A lie down." Normal for you, unusual and fun for me to read.

You are absolutely adorable and you write with grace, never making foolish grammar or spelling errors. As an old English major, I appreciate that as well.

And your photos are spot on! There is nothing wrong with them at all. I am truly enjoying your review. Thanks for sharing :)

  5. Really enjoying reading your review and seeing the pics.

We were lucky enough to do this cruise in June 2004 - and we only had ONE day of rainy weather. The sun was shining ALL the time! And Mendenhall - OMG how much it has changed. Such a shame :( But the little towns, the Red Dog Saloon -- all look SO familiar. The only excursion we did was a river rapids ride, and it was exciting, challenging, memorable. We also saw bears off in the distance when the whole chain of rubber rafts had to stop to let a young boy "pee." Great memories!

  6. I'm in Orlando... trying to find the best option for getting to Ft. Lauderdale - we're flying back into MCO, and don't want to pay for 16 days at the airport pkg. Our daughter is going to pick us up at MCO after we fly back from London. It looks to me like our ONLY option is to rent a car. We'll have an hour drive to the airport (we live out in the burbs) to pick up a car, drive back home, leave our car here, then head out to Ft. Lauderdale. Just a real pain. Thanks for your advice, though. I'll start looking at rental cars-may have to pick one up the night BEFORE the cruise.
