  1. There have been a lot of threads about ordering luggage tags on-line and it is not uncommon for people to have problems for on-line ordering.  Sure it works occassionly for some people and it is sometimes difficult for others to find the link to order the luggage tags but it doesn't appear to be worth the hassle to try to order the tags on-line.   Standard practice for me is to call the Captain's Club Rep and ask them to send the tags.  I think that's the best path for the OP and others who would like the tags from Celebrity.

    Good Luck

I checked in online for our cruise a month from today and no where did I see an option for me to order my tags. I received my EDOCS but therewas  no link for ordering them-just to print them. I never had an issue before ..Is there something I am missing...

I think they are available 45 days before sailing.  Are you within 45 days?

For some of us, choices are limited. Spring break is when school says spring break is.

The best cruise I ever took was one immediately after a dry dock aboard the Windjammer Polynesia in October 2001. Flying was extra tense as the events of 9/11 happened only a month before. The ship got a new and substantially lighter engine, so it was leaning the whole trip (until they could figure out ways to rebalance it). There would be a constant pool of water at one end of the shower that could never make it to the drain. One evening the entire ship lost power because a plastic bag somehow found its way into the fuel line and clogged it. The only lights that night were from the emergency lights on the mast. Dinner was delayed until they figured out how to get power back. Only a few toilets flushed during parts of the cruise. They had to turn off all hot water because the new engine was overheating it (virtually to steam).

We had a blast! We brought our pillows out and slept on deck. Drinks were free. It certainly made for great conversation! And we all got a free replacement cruise to boot.

Granted, Windjammer passengers are a different breed from Celebrity cruisers, but the lesson I learned is that it's all in what you make it. As long as they still plan to sail the Summit in March, we'll be there.

I'm glad you were able to make lemonade but I would have thought you could have found another ship with a similar itinerary.  Perhaps not if you really wanted the Windjammer experience.

    Hi All

My wife and I are just back from a New England trip on the Regal Princess... I have never been so disappointed on the service and such on this past cruise - Food was mediocre at best, ran out of wine by the glass, service was substandard at the bars and our room is just plain worn out... I think it is time to look at another line to help us enjoy our vacation time.

In reading about Celebrity, I am seeing lots of levels of service and such, just looking for some opinions... typically, we like a larger cabin with balcony (don't need suites), we like the anytime dining for just the two of us, but we like good food and great service...

We have traveled on Royal Caribbean, 20 years ago, and Caraval before that... been on Princess ever since

looking for some opinions from experienced cruisers on your experiences

    Thanks in advance

    Cinti Cruzer

You come to the right place if you want opinions 😉  None of the cruise lines are like they were 20 years ago, I'm sure you've seen that on Princess.  To get larger than a balcony cabin on Celebrity you'll need to move to a suite.  But you'll probably find the stand balcony cabins adequate.  I think you'll like the anytime dining.  No problem getting tables for two and the wait usually isn't too bad but I would suggest making reservations (even if you switch them on-board).  Concierge usually doesn't provide much of an advantage except slightly better cabin locations.  Aqua is unique with a dedicated dining room.  many now book with perks and select the unlimited drink benefit.   Find a discounted cruise and give celebrity a try.

  5. As I've been thinking about this, why would anyone want to take the risk with problems from unfinished updates or modifications?  Are the prices that much better?  I guess I haven't seen any huge discounts to warrant the risk.  In my case we booked a B2B in February before we realized it was close to the upgrade and the Silhouette had the best itineraries. It isn't until 2020 and if it looks like they are having problems we'll cancel.

Personally I think you will be fine.   The upgrade is indeed a MAJOR overhaul.   ALL ROOMS are to be replaced.   I was talking with some execs on Millennium that is planned for the first upgrade and they told me ALL of the rooms are to be replaced.   They are built as a module and will slip out the old rooms and stick the new ones in their place.   From my understanding they will also totally refurbish the interior, add a Suites Only Sunbathing Area and Hot Tub on Sports Deck 12 Forward.

I guess you can keep an eye on Millennium which is the first ship to be upgraded and see if she sails on schedule.

I'll be really impressed if they can keep to the schedule.   Replacing all of the rooms would be a huge job.  They must have an army scheduled to work 24/7 during the upgrade.  We are scheduled on the second cruise after the drydock on the Silhouette in 2020.  Hopefully we should have a good idea about how well they can keep to the schedule.

Have used them several times.  Airport pickup times vary, sometimes very quick, sometimes 20-30 minute wait.  BE SURE TO GET ON THE RIGHT Hyatt Place van, as there are two different locations and vans.  You want 17th Street Convention Center.

We have taxied it to the pier, which was great the first time and poor the second (never showed).  The doorman took pity on us after awhile and drove us to the pier on the shuttle bus by ourselves - I think it cost $7 or $8 each.

Nice hotel and a great staff.

Did you ask the hotel or doorman to call the taxi?  If so, they probably didn’t call just to get you on the shuttle.  You need to make your own call for the taxi.  Kickbacks to the hotel and doorman are common to generate more business.  Uber or taxis will always be cheaper and more convenient transportation options around the airport and port.  Perhaps the equation changes if you are staying farther from the port.

Thanks everyone for your input!  It's been years since I was here for a cruise and didn't remember anything about the area.  I did run across some info which surprised me--Hyatt Place on 17th will be offering a free breakfast only for its members as of Nov. 1, and Embassy Suites charges $9 p/p for an airport shuttle....yikes.  Luckily it's easy to sign up for the Hyatt membership when you book, so far that's my #1 choice.  From the boards cruisers seem to like the hotel and its location.  Anyone try using the sofa bed?  Is it comfortable?

The Hyatt Place on 17th May be the best place for you, but don’t fall for the shuttle scam in these areas.  If there are two people that would be $18 and you could easily due Uber and probably a taxi without waiting for a shuttle.  The same advice applies for the ride to the port from the hotel.  Uber or a taxi will be quicker and cheaper without the hassle of waiting for the shuttle. Uber or taxi are even cheaper if you have more than two.  As far as the sofa bed is concerned, it’s as good or bad as any other sofa bed.  There isn’t any magic to make the sofa bed better at the Hyatt or on the ship.  Also check your bill in the morning at the Hyatt for shuttle charges or overnight parking.  It’s been my experience that they routinely add the charges even if you don’t park or use the shuttle.

Ask TAs if they have a block on rooms for these cruises. We are about to accept an Edge C3 room on the Sept 30 for $7360 ttl for 2. We get the 2 perks, $100 dining credit and $100 OBC. If we booked it with Celebrity, it’s over $11000. Good luck to all.

Wow!!!  Still way too expensive for me to book a C3 balcony for 11 days on any ship for any destination

Thank you for sharing the map.  I agree that we would not walk to the Terminal with our suite cases.   I was planning on using Uber.    Have you ever used it?    I checked the other day and it appears that Uber is active in Southampton.   If now I'll use a cab.

Will you be using an international data and calling plan to access the Uber app and allow the driver to call you?  If not I'd probably stick with a taxi.

I've discussed the Royal Caribbean policy with several Hotel Directors on Celebrity ships and they all said that it doesn't seem to be a problem on Celebrity. Complaints made on the ship and directly to Celebrity might indicate the opposite. Take the time to register a complaint if you notice a problem.

I think they are just trying to weasel out of the question.  You would hope Celebrity would be proactive and follow Royal's lead and prohibit support animals before they become a bigger problem.

Trying to book 2 adjoining veranda rooms on Equinox next August and being told there are basically no choices in cabin location aside from back of ship. Honestly, 10 months out, in a month where most kids are headed back to school/college, I know it's not a super full time to sail, why aren't there any choices? I'm not paying to be dizzy all week, we want midship, and they're saying there are no rooms available anywhere else. I honestly just don't believe it. What's going on? I've cruised at least 6x and never booked this early before, and always had pick of any area I want. Why would choices be this limited so far in advance?

    Do you have any updates?

  13. After final payment, the most important thing is to stop worrying about the price and enjoy your cruise.  At final payment you are really saying this is a good deal for you.  I agree that you should always try to get an upgrade if possible, but don't forget to enjoy yourself.

I would try calling Celebrity directly (and perhaps a second time if you already called).  You may need to talk to a supervisor.  I'm not sure about the date but I see a couple of cabins on deck 6 and 7 that would work for Aug 17 on the Equinox.  I would stick to cabins on the starboard side to avoid being above smoking areas.  I think the issue that you have is the connecting cabins for 2 connect to cabins for 3 or 4.  First do a mock booking for 2 in a cabin and see what cabins are available.  The for 3 or 4 in a cabin.  I think you will find a number of combinations that will work for you.  Then call Celebrity and tell them exactly what you need.  I think they will agree.   I've also had good luck with the big box TAs doing this for me.

    Good Luck

  15. The Hyatt Place wants to charge you for something, either shuttle service from the airport or parking.  We took a cab to the Hyatt and then a parking charge appeared on the bill in the morning.  We needed to get the bill corrected before we left in the morning.  Talking with others at the hotel, this also happened to them, so check your bill.   You should also note that the shuttle stops running sometime around 11 pm even though several flights arrive after 11.  This hotel seems more inclined to add charges than other hotels in the area, so I avoid staying there.  We've never had a problem with Uber drivers entering the port for a drop-off.  We use Uber every time to get from the hotel to the port.

It is a non issue; makes me wonder if your "travel guy" has ever been in one of these cabins.

But as others have said, leave them for the rest of us. :classic_biggrin:

I think some of you are being a little hard on the "travel guy".     I understand what the "travel guy" is saying.  Anyone along the side of the ship that looks toward your balcony is looking into your balcony without doing something like looking around the partition.

I'm on the Magic next August out of Fort Lauderdale.  I'm wondering if flight prices might be cheaper to Fort Lauderdale or Miami.  If they are cheaper to Miami, about how much would it cost to get to the Fort Lauderdale port?

It also probably depends on the departure times of the potential flights.  My personal rule is no flights earlier than 11:00 if leaving out of Fort Lauderdale, but for Miami I probably wouldn't schedule a flight before noon if the ship was in Fort Lauderdale.

    Good Luck

Thanks Andrew.  Every time you think you've seen it all on a cruise ship something new happens.

  19. I usually end up using Uber/Lyft and a taxi.  Although Uber and Lyft are usually a couple of dollars cheaper, there really isn't a significant difference in price.  I use Uber and Lyft getting to the hotel or port from the airport.  The wait usually isn't too bad and I don't need to worry about the taxi taking the "long" route or getting stuck in traffic.  However we always use a taxi for the return trip from the port to the airport, the taxis are there waiting in line as you exit the port.  It's so convenient.  No need to find the Uber/Lyft pick-up are and sometimes the wait for a driver can be rather long.  It's early in the morning and traffic isn't a problem. You can also see the airport so you know you're going in the correct direction.
