Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Last year I took Holland America after taking the train from Anchorage to Whittier, and the luggage was checked in at the train station in Anchorage (with HAL cruise tags attached) and delivered to our door on the ship. All luggage was in a baggage car or went separately in a truck. Not sure how it got to Whittier. There was no room in the passenger cars for large luggage so you need to check it. The train drops you off at the cruise terminal, but you are outside and you just walk to the cruise terminal. No one was hauling their luggage with them, only small carryons. Just verify with the checked luggage people in Anchorage. Make sure your luggage has your cruise tags and it should work out fine.
  2. I don't know about the availability of Remy Martin on your ship. But on my last cruise on the Konigsdam over this past Christmas, I was able to call room service and order a bottle of Meyers dark rum and have it delivered to the cabin. I think they will get you almost anything as long as it is on the ship.
  3. You can book Alaska rail online for about $95/ person. I did this on Aug 20, 2023. I had taken an 11 day Princess cruise tour then a 7 day HAL southbound cruise. It was very easy. I took an Uber for $10 from the Capt Cook to the rail station. You check in your luggage at the railroad station with your cruise luggage tags on your bags, then you dont see them again until they show up at your door on the ship. The rail /cruise line handles your luggage. Easy-peasy. Just do it yourself online at Alaska Rail. We arrived at Whittier a little after noon and was on the ship by 12:30.
  4. During the Aug 9, Sapphire cruise they removed the back lido syrup coffee spigots and replaced with Lavazza urns. Big difference, delicious coffee now.
  5. I was on the Sapphire, March 5-April 6, 2023 for a 32 day South America cruise. On that cruise I was purchasing Argentine and Chilean wines on shore and paying the corkage fee so that I could drink them with dinner in the dining room. In addition to the corkage fee, I was also charged the 18% gratuity ($3.60) on top of the $20 corkage, total of $23.60. I complained to customer service on the ship and on my post cruise survey. Customer service told me that the March 5 cruise was the first cruise they were charging the additional gratuity on top of the corkage. I'm wondering if the Sapphire Princess is still charging the 18% gratuity on top of the corkage fee. Has anyone been charged this additional fee on the fee, on the Sapphire Alaska cruises?
