  1. The question I posted was not meant to start a thread regarding the philosophy of tipping. It was a yes or no question as to whether tips are charged on the onboard account on cruises out of Australia. Maybe I wasn't specific enough  I'm merely pricing out options, and the service charges are a significant part of a cruise's cost.

I briefly looked into this as I'm looking to book an Australian cruise on Carnival. I think it depends on whether you book on Australian site v US site. No auto-added gratuities if you book on carnival AU site. Gratuities will be added if you book on US site.

This appears to be contrary to what the others have said here.

  3. We had several changes on our Transatlantic flight from Madrid back to Florida.  We kept getting the same message about the changes and that FE would update soon.  Well, it didn't and next thing you know our flights had been cancelled supposedly by American for non-payment.  Not sure what caused this, but you really need to keep an eye on the flights on the airline side.  Don't wait for HAL to notify you, because that takes much longer, if they do.  We eventually got new flights at our original price, but not without a huge hassle.

I pre-booked table 251 (6-top) for every evening at 5:30pm (fixed early seating) for our NS sailing in two weeks.

    Sorry, error in my post.

  5. We had FCCs issued under Cruising with Confidence at the point in time where they changed the expirations from one year to no expiration.  Unfortunately, we never received the email with our FCCs, so have never seen them.  We have only gotten the information by calling asking for the numbers and expiration.  We were told they don't expire by RCC.  Now I'm shopping for a cruise to use them on and during the booking process I did the FCC lookup where you provide your name and FCC number. The result looks like the attached, however I'm puzzled by the note regarding the expiration.  Has anyone seen this and can you clarify that perhaps the (1) means no expiration date?

  6. Also, there may be a difference when you pay for a cruise with gift cards and then cancel during a period when you can get some money back.  Maybe that's when you get refunded in gift cards, not this situation where you are on the ship with OBC.

Take clothes that can be stone washed in hot water.

Just a followup question because of this comment.  On one of our Transatlantic crossings, I can't remember if it was on Princess or NCL, we did the stuff your bag of laundry for $xx.  When we got our laundry back, almost every item lost so many years of life based on the worn/faded/pilled condition.  To this day I can look at a piece of clothing and remember that it "went through the wringer".  Literally!  Is HAL's laundry like this?

I too am wanting to know if April/May cruises have any enhanced protocols.  I realize protocols can change quickly but it would be reassuring if you knew ahead anticipated protocols at time of booking.

Our booked and paid for cruise in mid April still has not shown protocols  on the HAL website.

Yes, I checked again today for our April 8 Transatlantic and nothing available yet even putting in the voyage number.
