Glad it worked for you! I checked - but it would add $1200 to my Alaska July 2024 sail. I never understand how these sales work but I always check for better pricing so thanks for the heads up!

I remember seeing someone mention how there was a discount on drink packages when they boarded the ship, but only on embarkation day. Has anyone else seen this and, if so, what was the deal offered? I can't find that original post.

I can give you all a solution that we used when swimming in the Great South Bay (Long Island, NY) when we were kids, but I doubt very few would use it.

It involves two pairs of tights, a one piece bathing suit (or swim shorts and tee shirt for a man) and petroleum jelly.

Wear one pair of tights under your bathing suit as intended.

Take the second pair of tights, cut a hole in the crotch large enough for your head. Wear that pair upside down with your arms in the legs and pulling the waist don to be under your swim wear top.  You can cut partially through the foot area to make attached mittens.

Anywhere else that is exposed, coat with a thick layer of petroleum jelly.  Don't forget under the slit at the wrist if the foot has been cut.

This will work. Yes, one may look ridiculous, but when everyone else is dressed the same, what does it matter?

Hint: do not lie or sit in the sand after applying the petroleum jelly.

  3. Just booked the Radiance out of Galveston this morning after DH announced he was “having a weak moment” and suggested it. First time on Radiance class and 1st cruise over 7 days (it’s 9). Haven’t cruised Royal since 2019 due to Covid and first Celebrity cruise. So stoked!

The OBC from Next cruise is the one of the few remaining OBC’s that is combinable with the balcony discount.  It’s the monthly promotions that offer instant savings or OBC that can’t be combined.

also with the 50% off the second guest your OBC is reduced as they take the balcony discount and poly it equally to both guests and then take the 50% off the second guest.

I was looking at the 50% off second person deal, this must explain the low discount. Thanks!

A problem... yes... I usually get it addressed.  But any complaint results in unfriendly service the rest of the meal because you have just delivered a rebuke to the specific waiter and busperson. Slow service is already done by the time you report it and cannot be corrected. One time I spoke up was when a meal was delivered in pieces to each member of our dining party so that we each ate at different times.  I had to wait 20 minutes for the officer in charge of the venue.  She listened and took down my name and cabin number.  Oh nice, I thought, maybe I will be credited something or get chocolate covered strawberries with a nice note.

A day later, my cabin steward mentioned that I had a bad experience in a restaurant. Shocked, I asked how he knew.  He said your cabin has a notation. Notation? What did it say?  He said, you complained about the restaurant.

So now I have a suspicion that speaking up causes them to track you as a possible problem complainer.  After 4 cruises on Norwegian Breakway and hearing others, I am certain that slow service is a chronic problem on that ship or cruise line and I report it as such on the survey rather than get my waiter in trouble.  It's a management problem.

It’s possible that you were “red flagged”. In the hotel industry if a customer has a negative experience/complaint, their account is flagged to insure that they are given superior service so as not to have any additional problems that might affect their stay. The steward should not have mentioned the notation.

  6. Researching tours for an ABC Freedom Cruise in May.  For those familiar with Calabaza snorkeling with turtles tours in Barbados, are their comomparable tours in any of the ABC islands, preferably Bonaire? My DH no longer enjoys snorkeling so I’m looking for an on the water experience that can be enjoyed without getting in. Nice boat with shade and comfy place to sit, some beers, nice views. I think we paid $115 for Calabaza and he said it was worth it even without snorkeling.

  7. I don’t understand these beds. Are they in an L shape? One person sleeps against the wall and the other person perpendicular to them? Are they going to tuck the bedcovers in neatly like the photos, or just do a “pull up “ like Royal does? What about those pillows? Do you throw them off the bed when you sleep? I always take the decorative pillows and little cummerbund strip off the bed and put them in the closet because I know they are not washed between guests. Not sure if I care for this setup.
