  1. So I just asked my travel agent if my daughter has a sofa sleeper and he said yes, in our bedroom! Can you confirm that is correct ? That seems absurd when there seems to be a living room / dining area?

10006 has a sleeper sofa in the living room area. Not in the bedroom. We stayed in this room before refurb however I can't think they would have changed the layout of the furniture.

  2. Loving your review and pictures. I feel like I am right there enjoying your week! :D I appreciate all the work you have put into doing this. Thank you.

On a side note... You are an inspiration. I have read your story. As for your dad I will keep him and your family in my daily thoughts and prayers. I for one appreciate your honesty. The fact that you could share it. I am sure many people have been touched by your story. You have touched my life. Even though I do not know you I feel as though I do.

Thank you again for taking the time (which this takes a lot of time to do) to share your vacation. Putting this review with pictures together. Stay healthy. Write many more reviews! :D:D

  3. Thank you everyone. Once again..Now to wait to see if I can get the week off to go. Hopefully I won't lose any more rooms. :(.

I will say I just looked at some pictures of the Vibe and I don't think there would be a lot of noise above us where it would be bothersome. We are early risers and I wouldn't think anyone would be laying out in the evening and if they were it would probably be quiet. There are only a few on starboard side left so I guess I will have to open to whatever we can get.

  4. Vibe is above the 16th floor rooms on the Port side. It's supposed to be pretty quiet from what I understand. The Vibe is a place for adults only who want to get away from the crowds and noise. I just got a Penthouse at the far forward Port side of Haven for February.

As for the rough seas, I have noticed that people who grew up around boats, tend to not really notice (until you get back on land ). I personally sleep like a baby whenever there is a storm at sea. rocks me to sleep. :)

Remember there is also a nice outdoor deck on top for Haven guests as well. Along with the enclosed deck to lounge out and relax. Either way, you will have a wonderful time. :D

Uh oh now I am real confused. With all the pictures I have seen the Vibe has been on the starboard side deck 17 unless I am looking at the picture wrong. Could someone please verify that starboard is right and port is left. So the numbers would be say 15104 for port side and if it were 16704 it is starboard. Sorry for all the questions..but thank you in advance for helping me.

  5. I'd go with 15. It is so quiet there and you just take a small staircase inside the Haven to get to the lounge, courtyard and restaurants. We've sailied in the 2 bedroom 15104 twice already and I have it booked again. You can't beat 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. :D

Thank you. So right about the 2 bathrooms. Plus I am telling myself we don't need to have a huge balcony as we have access to the sundeck!

  6. Personally I would do deck 16, starboard. Deck 16 put you on the same level as the Haven courtyard, bar & restaurant. I would try to be as far forward as possible. Starboard will put you on the same side as the SOL. But really you can't go wrong. 😁

    Linda

Thank you. Kind of what I was thinking. A short walk to anything I need. :D

  7. I am almost able to make my decision. Just another question please. Seeing as both OS are sold out for the week we are probably going. Which at this point is March. I have decided the 2 bedroom will work. lol Anyway is there a preference as to being on deck 15 vs 16? Starboard vs port? I know there is no starboard for deck 15. I tried to look to see what would be above us if we booked deck 16. Looked like Vibe but really can't tell. Not sure how much noise there would be? Opinions on this once again would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah 1 more thing. I was worried about the all the water & soda with the OS...new latitudes program well we would each get 2 bottles. Should be enough and with the lounge close by I am sure we can walk over for soda! Thanx again.

  8. The OS doesn't really matter for views as you are in the center.

The one benefit I see to a 2 br is some possible reduction in movement if you go 15 as far as back as possible.

When we were on 16 we too only had front/back movement and not side-to-side.

You think less movement on 15? Both have rooms almost all the way as far as the suites go. 15 is on the port side, & 16 is on starboard. I so want fwd I am just so fearful. Like I mentioned never been out of NY so not sure of the roughness. With 15' ft swells I may just want to be more mid ship.. I suppose I can forgo the canned soda and bottle waters. :(

  9. Let's see if I can post a video of going under the VNB.

WOW! Just love it. There is a bridge we go under when going out of Tampa. Everyone thought I was crazy coz I took so many pictures going under. Although it was much later so it was already dark. The bridge in NY looks awesome. Do you know what time we would pass the SOL and go under bridge? I suppose I could always just go up top deck if we do not get the OS. Actually hoping for DOS but thats another story...;)

  10. Last October I did a b2b on BA. My 1st week was the cruise that was detoured away from Bermuda! Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the OS for both legs, so I was in a 2 bedroom villa for one week. My preference is the OS. There are several reasons. The MUCH larger balcony, larger Livingroom, bedroom opens onto the balcony. But there are cons also. Probably the biggest is the sound leaking from the DOS next door.

If you are going to have more than 2 people in the suite, the I would go with the 2 bedroom. It will allow them to have some privacy. Here are some pics of the OS & 2 bedroom villa.

Thank you so much. Pictures are great. It is just the 2 of us so no real need for privacy. It is great to have first hand information.

I have been in both on other class ships. I am guessing the 2 bedroom would be the same as on the Epic. We did that a few years ago. I know being forward there I more motion. We have dealt with it going to Caribbean. Several times. I just go to center of the ship. Hmm I think that is where the casino is. Lol. I don't think we noticed any movement being in the 2 bedrooms not the Epic or Dawn. I am guessing coz they are more mid ship.

I do prefer a balcony door outside the bedroom. Although I also like the long window in the shower...

Decisions, decisions, decisions. I am thinking the larger balcony, living room, and all the waters just may win out. I will report back with my decision and what I thought of the room I chose.

Again, I thank everyone for the feedback. It is so comforting to know I can come here and ask any question and have so many responses. Cruise critic is great!

  11. We sailed in the owners suite on the breakaway during an early January sailing. We did hit some bad weather on night one and also the last night (approx force 8 or 9) and though I'm pretty biased being a sailor, we found to motions to be very comfortable. You may feel a bit of 'slamming' when up forward but it's nothing that would wake you up. We were sailing with a 3 year old as well and she never experienced any sea sickness or fear. The most annoying thing is making sure all your bottles of liquor are sea fastened before the storm!

The balcony is lovely though it's pretty much useless during passage due to the relative wind unless you lie down on the lounger so your bonce is beneath the handrail.

Me, I'd go for the owners suite every time

I do love forward suites. As long as I can be on balcony to see the Statue of Liberty and go under the bridge I will be happy.

  12. We were in the DOS on BA in March 2015. That is a tough choice. We also toured one of the 2 BR a few rooms back.

One thing to consider with the OS is they have a movable wall between them and the DOS next door which leak noise in the corner where the door would be stored if both rooms were connected. It was to the point if you were sitting in the chair or couch that you could clearly hear the folks next door and you had to crank the tv to hear it so I would guess the noise would work both ways.

The roughest seas we had were 15' and there was some feeling of movement but none of us got sick. I'm not sure being in the 2br would help much unless you moved down to 15 and moved as far back as you can.

Sailing in Feb you won't really be able to use any balcony for the first and last 1.5 days. The 2BR balcony is also dinky, tiny, small.

Oh, and the OS will also get you unlimited in room bottled water and soda.

Thank you for the feedback. I do like the fact it is unlimited soda, water and well anything I want where the 2 bedroom no waters.

I think the noise level I may be ok. Heck if it get too loud my DH will crank our tv. Lol.

If it were the DOS I wouldn't even be questioning anything as it would be everything I want. I would just have to take sea sick stuff if we have rough seas.

  13. If you decide last minute to go 1 day early (Feb 11, right?), your best option could be Hotwire. You want to look at any hotel in Times Square South, Theater District, Times Square North, or Madison Square Garden that has at least a 3* rating and at least an 80% approval rating. If you're not familiar with Hotwire, take a look to see how it works and ask questions. I know that booking a blind hotel might not be comfortable, but it will be cost effective on a last minute emergency basis. Oyster.com is another option. For Feb 11 I'm seeing the Holiday Inn on 57th St for $109.

I am not at all familiar with booking anything on line. I always like to speak with a person. lol. Yes that would be my date. I am truly hoping the weather will be fine for travel on my day. It just makes it easier. I did try to do a search for hotels just in case and just didn't know where to look for a safe place and also safe for travel in the evening. Never been to NY city. Thank you for all your suggestions! By any chance is the Holiday Inn the express and near the port? I checked yesterday and when I put in the dates it was about 150. Maybe a few days ahead it will be less. I am going to watch the weather and as long as there is NO white stuff predicted for the date I leave we will go in the morning of. I know its a chance but..it is different for me totally without any planning for this. It's just a vacation that is needed..

  14. My update..Still waiting on ok from work. Can you believe it? I have done a ton of research. Gobuses hasn't released schedule as of yet but we decided to go Peter Pan. Convenience. Park at bus station. Now plan B would be to go 1 day ahead. Which I would have to leave after my work day. Getting me into NY after 10pm. Does anyone know of any close but safe hotels in the area or where we can get a taxi to one closer to port? It would also need to be a last minute thing as I will be watching the weather before making that decision. The idea of Stamford CT would be good but then we are driving almost the whole way there and we are trying to avoid that. So I do need to leave from Prov. Thanx again for any and all recommendations!

  15. Anyone else have any opinion? Just not sure how the Breakaway fairs in rough seas. I am thinking mid side just in case but if the seas are not too bad I may be mad at myself for not being forward. Anyone who has been on the Breakaway class please share your experience. I know that no one can predict the weather which is why I am just looking for opinions. If going out of Florida this time of the year I know even if rough seas it passes pretty quickly. So, thank you again for all the knowledge here on Cruise Critic!

  16. The owner's suite has a separate master bathroom whereas the 2 bedroom suite has a master bathroom that is essentially an extension of the bedroom and not all that private. To solve the privacy issue, you could either use the toilet in the second bedroom or shut the door between the master bedroom/bathroom area and the living room.

The owner's suite also has a powder room and the living room is considerably larger, and of course, the balcony is much bigger. The 2 bedroom suite has only an average sized balcony.

In terms of which suite is nicer, certainly it is the Owner's suite. Owner's suite also comes with 3 bottles of free liquor, in addition to all the other Haven Amenities.

The open ocean in February can be a wild ride - there really is no way to predict how the cruise will be. Definitely come prepared with some Bonine and I'd also ask my doctor for a prescription for Trans Derm Scops to have just in case the seas are crazy. We had a forward corner cabin on a ship going through the Bay of Biscaye during high seas and it was so uncomfortable, we just took our IPADs and went midship for the day. Dining during this was an interesting experience to say the least. The comedian who performed that night could not stay still on the stage and said it was the first time he'd worn out a pair of shoes doing his act! LOL! At any rate, if you go prepared, you should be OK. If you get into high seas and what you brought doesn't work, do go see the ship's doctor as he can help you.

Thank you so much. Do you think going from NY in February we would be better off with the 2 bedroom in case of rough seas? Or would it not matter? I know we would be happy with either one. We have cruised from Florida January, March & April. So February is a new month for us as well as NY. I would imagine the Owner suite would be a bit nicer then the 2 bedroom. I do like a nice balcony. Not sure how much it can be used on a cruise out of NY. I have gotten the little sea sick pills on the ship before. This last cruise they were no longer giving them to people. I wish I knew the name of them as they truly worked wonders. Again, thank you.

  17. Looking for information from anyone who has been on Breakaway. If you had an option of either the 2 Bedroom vs the Owner Suite (not deluxe) which would you chose and why. If we were going on cruise in February. Only 2 adults. I know the 2 bedrooms are all located on side where the owner suite if fwd but in the middle so not on the corner. I will admit we love being forward just not sure about center and seas in February. We have been in both on other ships just not the Breakaway class. Have never cruised out of NY only from Florida. All opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for all opinions!

  18. Hi Neighbor, I am headed down for a GEM sailing in February. I booked my bus with Peter Pan from Providence/Pawtucket terminal. I think the bus departs at 6:30am, arrives NY Port Authority at around 10:15am. And then taking an Uber to the pier for about $10. Also Gobuses should be releasing their Schedule soon. Ellen from RI

    Thank you Ellen,

Do you know if there is parking at the terminal? I actually contacted Peter Pan and Amtrak. Time to get into NY we are gonna go with Peter Pan. Train gets in closer to 11:00 and if there are any delays well I just don't won't to take a chance.

Now just waiting for an ok to get time out of work...

  19. The port is on the west side near 50th & 12th. Cab fare from either train station or Port Authority Bus Station would be $12-15.

For Feb Mar you need a serious plan B in case of bad weather. My suggestion would be to drive to Stamford CT on Sat, get 3*+ Hotwire hotel, park at the train station for $10/day, take metro north to Grand Central, and a cab to the port.

    Thank you again.

So I have looked into bus service and train. Both look duable. I will watch the weather for traveling to NY. I suppose plan B would be to go a day early. Just not sure I can get the extra day. One of the reasons for doing this last minute has been I could go from a Sunday - Sunday for purposes of work. I would also be able to get to the port the day of cruise. Convenience! Still waiting to see if I can even take the days off from work. I should know for sure by the end of the week.

    Thank you!

  20. Where exactly are you in Mass? What time of year would you do this? What day of the week?

Basically you need to look at bus service from Providence or Boston to New York and Amtrak service from Providence or Boston to New York Penn Station. Of course driving is always an option as well.

Are you planning to do this the morning of the cruise? That could be risky depending on the time of year. Academy bus had a relationship with the cruise lines so that there was some wiggle room for a late arrival.

    Thank you so much.

I was considering Feb or March. NCL Breakaway it departs on a Sunday. Last minute cruise. Yes I would go the morning of the cruise. EEK! Never have I done that. I do know the risk. I am close to Providence RI. So where Academy used to pick up at airport it was convenient for parking and getting the bus. Boston is an hour in the opposite direction for me.

I have thought of driving or looking into Amtrak. I have never been out of NY so not at all familiar with where the port is if I took the train. I suppose at that point a taxi could get me there but then if there is traffic I could end up missing the boat! (no pun intended lol)

I could also go a day ahead but then why not just fly to Florida and go from there. I thought it was an easy transition to get transportation to and from. I am finding out I am wrong.

Thank you so much for answering so quickly.
