  1. I paid 404.74 back on April 4th for one Premium package, how much was your original price pp? Just curios because if I can get 20% off 404$ that would be a deal!

Me too and that's what I can't figure out. That's been the price for a premium package for a while. $49*7*1.18=404.74. I check often for a discount but haven't seen any.

See OP's Post #2. They said Select in error - she meant that's what they had paid originally for the Premium Package. She was lucky enough to score 20% off the $404! :D I'm still checking my cruise - no luck yet....:(

  2. For those of you who have been able to purchase the drink packages at 20% off, how did you find out about the offer? Did you receive an email? Or did it show up during the booking process? Where in the process? How far out were you from sail date?

We are on the Liberty of the Seas sailing May 22. I would love to get 20% off of the drink packages.

    Thanks!

Heard about it on Cruise Critic, where else?!! :D

Don't hold you breath on getting the discount on the Liberty btw. It seems like the 20% is for 9+ day sailings. One exception was the Anthem, but it's discount went away starting with the Memorial Day weekend sailing. The only other exception I saw reported on CC was one Jewel 7-day sailing.

Of course, even though I extremely doubt I will get the discount on my Liberty sailing (in 10 days!! :D) I still find myself checking periodically to be sure. :p

Well I stand corrected! Lots of reports today about the 20% discount showing up on 7 day cruises! Still not my May 1st Liberty cruise :( but I'll keep checking! Hopefully kwbound (and others) are continuing to check every day! Apparently you never know!

I DID find an INTERNET DISCOUNT! 30% off VOOM when purchased in advance for May 1 Liberty! Not something we're interested in though. We choose to disconnect - no little ones, elderly ones, etc. to keep tabs on back home so we're going to pass. BTW, I didn't think Liberty even had VOOM yet...

Thanks so much for this link to your previous information! It is really helpful! We have an excursion planned but it's less than 3 hours and they have offered to drop us off at 7 Mile Beach on the way back. I think we will have a couple of hours at least until we have to be back on board so I think we will take them up on it!

  5. We were on Liberty recently. The Saturday Night Fever production show was very good. Our son is beyond Adventure Ocean age now, but we always had good luck with Royal's children's program. Plus, if your kids are into seeing "characters", they have the Dreamworks experience. You'll see characters like Shrek, Puss 'n Boots, Kung Fu Panda, etc. occasionally hanging out on the promenade and posing for pictures, and I think there are other activities like character breakfast, if you sign up for them. (Not something we paid much attention to.)

For times when you're not with the kids, if you like wine, we found Harbinder, in Vintages, to be very interesting and good at helping you pick out a wine you'll enjoy. And we did a mixology class with Melvin in the R-Bar that was a lot of fun.

Thanks, Paul for mentioning Harbinder again. I had made a note of Melvin (& Raj) in the R Bar that others had mentioned but I didn't make a note before of Harbinder's name and couldn't find it using a search. I don't know anything about wine really. My plan is to figure out what I'm going to eat for dinner and go by Vintages for a recommendation and getting a glass to take with me. :D

  6. Yada, tendering will be for suites and Royal excursions first - then general boarding.

Do you know if you have to get tender tickets? We did for our Navigator cruise out of Galveston to Grand Cayman in 2014. There didn't seem to be much checking for numbers though. I had gotten up early and got tickets for the 1st general boarding tender, but I'm not sure it made a difference as I recall. Except as a rule follower I was able to get in line when our number was called. We did make our excursion with the same vendor though.

  7. This is correct.

And if you plan to purchase liquor on board, make your purchase on Monday as RCCL will offer a one day 10% off all liquor purchases. This helps ease the pain of paying a $3.75 state sales tax for each 750ml bottle you carry through customs.

There was no sales tax collected from us. Does that just apply to Texas residents? We had three 1L bottles, and they were declared on our customs form. (But we did take advantage of the first-day-at-sea 10% discount.)

It's a Texas tax but it doesn't just apply to Texas residents. Here is information on the limits and tax rates for "importing" alcohol and beer to Texas. When we cruised out of Galveston in Oct 2014 there was a lady asking as we were walking out of the terminal to the shuttle (already past customs/immigration) if we had purchased any alcohol. We said no and were allowed to keep walking. If we'd said yes, I believe there was a table set up to collect the taxes.

  8. Just off Liberty this past week. Tidal Wave is still inop, and will be for some time. The most official version I was told was the US Board of Health would not approve of the slide in its current version and is refusing to allow Royal to open it. US Board of Health wants the slide removed completely. Removal of the slide would apparently require another dry dock, which would be extremely expensive to do for just the slide. They still have multiple workers/engineers "working" on it, but after watching a couple of times, I couldn't figure out what the hell they were trying to do! Ha! :p

Hey mrizer - no fair using the big grin in your title! I instantly thought you had good news to report....:p Oh well, I'm still looking forward to my turn in 17 days!!! :D

  9. I've bought the Premium Beverage Package for my next cruise. I won't be drinking more than I "want" because I have the package but without the package I would definitely drink less than I want. When you're presented with that $12 + 18% each time I definitely start asking myself if I "need" another one. Plus I would sure want to make sure I stayed under the package price - I definitely wouldn't want to have paid more.

What I like most with the package is trying new drinks! I had my 1st Mojito on my last cruise. Something I'd never ordered on a cruise or at home because what if I didn't like it. (I did btw :D) One night we had ordered rum and cokes late at night and then thought we should have ordered some kind of nightcap with Bailey's instead. It was nice to just leave our drinks and go get what we really wanted.

I only got "drunk" once when the bartender in the ice show hadn't ever made a Patron Perfect Margarita and he made them too strong! Shame on us for still drinking them (even though we did get some additional mix to help)! LOL We both quit drinking for a while that night until we sobered up. :p So we know our limits.

  10. Here's the information for how to contact the ship to leave with friends and family back home. They will need to know the ship's name. I also give them my cabin number and of course they know my legal name.

    888-724-7447 ($7.95/minute)

My next cruise I will be traveling with my daughter. I will leave all my information with both my husband and my parents.

I am attaching a copy of the type of information I leave behind. I think it's important they have my travel insurance and parking information as well in case something happens to me.

  11. We'll be on this cruise! We booked all our excursions on http://www.shoreexcursioneer. com.

debemin and Amman - Welcome to Cruise Critic!

I am on your May 1st cruise as well as packedandready and others.

May I recommend you sign up for the "Meet and Mingle Party":

    https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/ccEntry.do:)

And follow clarea's link in post #2 to join the Roll Call discussion for our cruise.

Only 3 weeks to go! :D

  12. Example:

    Cabin 1: 30yo sister, 20yo brother, 19yo friend

    Cabin 2: 30yo friend, 20yo friend

    Cabin 3: 21yo sister, 19yo sister

Not positive this works since it is still one 21+ responsible for two underage passengers but I'm thinking it might work since one of the underage is a relative. The extra person is throwing you off. If it was one-to-one you should be fine. Keep in mind they go by the age you are on the FIRST day of the cruise (not the day you book) so if either of the 20 year olds would turn 21 before your cruise they would be good. You would just need to book the new 21yo in the cabin with 3.

  13. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqType=faq&faqSubjectId=333&faqSubjectName=Onboard+Policies&faqId=309

So here's a link. I think you would be able to go. Just book the 30-30-21 year olds in separate cabins then put the two unrelated minors in separate rooms (so one 21+ adult isn't responsible for two unrelated underaged cruisers). I think this would work. At Guest Services onboard you can change around the room assignments or get duplicate card keys so everyone winds up sleeping however you want.

  14. I would say the cheapest but I would have to add that I would include the location in the decision.

When traveling with my DD and I'm buying, I usually book an interior since it's the cheapest. That was the plan for our upcoming Liberty cruise but the only interiors available were on Deck 2 so I opted to spend a little more (not much) and I booked us a Promenade Cabin - Deck 7 mid-ship. It is right across from Café Promenade which some kind person on CC recommended for people-watching. :)

My DH is pickier and prefers at least an OV. I've been wondering if I could get away with the virtual balcony with him. ;)

Balconies are really nice but I find I much rather be out and about and I generally only use our cabin for sleeping/showering.

  15. Keep em coming. I'll sort through these and pick the ones that sound the best. I have to drink around 40ish drinks to break even so my goal is 50 so I feel like I am sticking it to "The Man!"

I like your plan and I'm subscribing to add to my list! I do find it hard not to repeat when I find something I really like though! :D

My DH discovered Wildberry Lava Flows on our Navigator cruise. My discovery was Peach Margaritas from the Pool Bar!

We both indulged in many Patron Perfect Margaritas too.

I will say that I tried my 1st Mojito at the Boleros on the Navigator and really liked it! I thought it lived up to the hype. I say a Premium Package would be a good time to give it one more try. ;)

This time I have a Frozen Mojito on my list to try.

  16. I use Travel Insured International through a recommendation (and I assume discount) by my insurance carrier, USAA. I access their website by signing in to my USAA account and clicking on a link.

I get more coverage for less dollars compared to Royal's plan. Example - a lot more medical evacuation coverage and pre-existing conditions coverage, etc.

  17. This drives me nuts!

Here's something I've always wondered about - what happens when a towel hasn't been returned to someone's Seapass card? I'm sure I saw a sign saying there was a charge of $25 per towel - surely this would be enough of a deterrent to saving loungers with towels if it was enforced?

I'm such a rule-follower that I worry about this even when I leave my chair for a couple of minutes to cool off in the pool. :p

My last RCI cruise in Oct 2014 didn't have the check out/in (except for taking off at ports) but all my Carnival cruises have.
