  1. Unless you really don't want to drive, consider renting a car. Even with the extra cost for a car seat rental (assuming you don't schlepp one along with you) it will likely be less expensive than transfers MCO-hotel (unless provided free by the hotel) plus hotel-Port Canaveral. Usually no rental car drop fee for this run. Admittedly you have to drop the rental in Canaveral off-port, but free shuttle to the ship will then be provided.

Thom and Anyone, I have done SEVERAL MCO to PC web searches on individual rental car web pages and on "general" rental car web pages. I have yet to find a car rental company that will let me book a one-way! HELP! Where should I look now? Who has a no-drop-fee?

  2. We're booked on the Brillance this coming October and when I do a mock booking it shows all the suites are booked. Is it possible that there are still some open? Final payment isn't due until July 22nd. My husband and I are really hoping to upgrade before we get on the ship to a JS or above for the double points. thanks for your help as always!

Just checked another place. October 5-12 cruise no JS or above but there are balconies. October 12-19 cruse shows JS and RS only also balconies. October 19-26 shows JS, GS, OS and balconies! Hope this helps!

IF you are on the 5-12 October. :( Hope one will open up for you! :)

  3. We do like getting the soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. I keep one set for us. I use the soap on the ship. The shampoo we clean our glasses. The conditioner is for shaving and the lotion is GREAT for getting through TSA!

I bring the rest home and give them away. :) The people here are thrilled to get them. The worst of our hotel/cruise items are better than most of what they can afford here. Something like a cheap Dollar Type shampoo is over $8.00 for a little bottle here! :( Many here never buy soap or shampoo! :o Lotion is something that the ladies fight over!

We as American's are so spoiled! :D

  4. SO glad you let us know how things turned out! Sorry that they were not as good as you would have liked! :(

Your positive attitude is refreshing. :D As others have said some have let a cruise be ruined with a lot less!

WOW! Wonder what is gong on with RCCL! Hope that things are running better by November! ;)

  5. I was using the cruise planner on RCI website and in the beverage packages I noticed the royal replenish package and I was wondering how does it work. do you free unlimited frozen non alcoholic drinks? can I get any drink from the bar and just get it with no alcoholic? and overall just what drinks can I get with this package

For us it was well worth the money! We had OJ in the morning, couple of types of coffee , one in the morning and one in the afternoon, soda with lunch and supper, a couple of frozen virgin drinks and coffee in the evening along with 4-6 bottles of water a day. We got WELL over $30.00 per day out of this package.

We had asked if we could get coffee on the last morning from our favorite gal and she told us yes. We were going to get our coffee but were running late and had our hands full! :o

Would do it again and are planning on getting the package on our next cruise! :D

  6. Ship - Grandeur

    Deck - 7

    Stateroom # - 7654

    Stateroom Category – JS

Starboard or Port Side - AFT

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes for us. (I like a very quiet cabin) We could hear distant music sounds from the South Pacific Lounge. One night it was VERY loud but when we called to complain it was turned down within minutes!

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes balcony connection with 7656. It did rattle a lot . . . next time we brought Duck Tape! :D

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – NOT obstructed WONDERFUL view!

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - BIG Aft balcony . . . Loved it!

Was wind a problem? - No wind problems

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No soot problems nor vibration.

Any specific problems with this cabin? - When the tub was used the first time the water backed up through the bathroom floor drain. Ran a tub of HOT water and cleaned it out! :p

Any other comments? - loved, Loved, LOVED this cabin. Would book it again any time! ;)

  7. To me, Starbucks is the worst coffee ever.

I agree! All those "candy bar in a cup drinks".. i like good coffee..no sugar or syrup added. I don't think I will find it, will bring my own tea bags and enjoy that.

I don't think I'm as fussy as you but I do grind fresh beans each morning and I don't like Starbucks (or Via). It isn't the best coffee I've ever had but I think the MDR coffee is perfectly fine.

Starbucks burns their coffee. They are not very careful at keeping track of the time it is roasted! :( One key is not to keep the heating element on after the coffee is brewed. I MUCH prefer cold press coffee. I take the Seattle's Best home and use it that way. :) It makes a very good coffee done in the cold press!

We find the MDR just OK but the best of the lot. Love to pour the coffee over ice for iced coffee! :D

  8. First, a big thanks to all for the support! I really doubt anything would have been accomplished if I hadn't posted here regarding the situation. Up until then it was pretty much you're SOL and have a nice trip.

What they've done is given us a $1,000 obc. Their offer was $600 but I think for the mess they've made they could at least buy me a few beers. So she threw in what amounts to a drink package and rounded it up. They've also emailed the ship and told them if there happens to be a suite open at check-in or before, they'll put us in it. Unlikely we'll get a suite for that cabin but you never know.

    Again, thanks everyone.

Yes, sorry to be unclear. We got the $800 refund (which is really just the difference in price between the cabins - not compensation) plus the $1000 OBC.

So glad that you took a chance and posted here. Happy for all the posts giving you suggestions. I'm sure they will help others in the future!

Sounds like you got a good deal for a BIG mess up on someone's part! Just use up all your OBC before you dock next Sunday. ;)

Have a GREAT cruise . . . Hope you can make lemonade out of the lemon situation you had to go through with this cruise. Trust you will have a report of a JS to share when you get back.

PLEASE let us know about your cruise. ¡ENJOY! :D

  9. We have not booked GTY but would like to know the outcome too. RCCL has been pulling some "interesting" things lately like showing deals that are not deals! Putting the word "deal" with a sailing doesn't make it a deal!!

I know that each week is different but there are 15 JS still showing for next Sunday's cruise! :D Find it odd that they are sold out for this Sunday since they usually "save" at least one cabin for problems that might necessitate a cabin change! :)

  10. I visited the locks this past November and saw first hand how little of the new locks are truly built, let alone excavated, and I was extremely fortunate to have had dinner with the Capt of the Vision alongside the Head Administrator for the New Locks ... there is no way the new locks will be done by 2016. They only had 4 of the rolling doors (out of 20) delivered from Itlay, and they're just sitting there to one side.... the other 16 sitting in Italy because the delivery company at the time went out of business. They had not even contracted for the installation of the all the electrical, conduit, piping, etc for the project! This is a massive project equal or bigger than the big dig in Boston for example and that took 17 years... My own own personal estimate is maybe.... maybe..... 2020 if they are truly lucky

Yes, there have been A LOT of problems. There have also been a lot of behind the scenes going on to move the project forward. I would be surprised if it is finished by mid 2016!

The newly elected president does have a lot at stake to get this project finished so that Panama doesn't get a black eye! He is already pressing and between him and the president there has been a lot of progress in the last little bit.

At sea cruise chat . com you can see the canal locks and the construction. :) (There have been some camera problems lately!)

  11. Maybe with a little luck, the new locks will be open by then and Royal will start taking some larger ships through.

Most of the cruise ships can go through the canal now as they are not too wide for the locks. The problem is the clearance under the Bridge of the Americas. We have over 100 cruise ships sail through the Canal in any season. The new locks will not help any of the big ships! :(

The papers here are saying that the administration is projecting mid 2016 for the new set of locks to be fully functioning. The doors just left Italy last week!

  12. I am packing for my cruise tomorrow. Is there a size or weight limit on suitcases?

    Thanks!

Like was said IF you are flying your airline will determine you weight, size and amount of your luggage. :p IF you are driving the luggage only has to fit through the screening machine. The last I read, you are allowed up to 5 checked pieces of luggage and your carry-on.

  13. My husband likes cigars. Does anyone have recommendations in Labadee, Falmouth or Cozumel to buy good cigars?

One one of our cruises, a friend from Canada bought his Cuban cigars in Cozumel. He sent them home to Canada. You CAN NOT bring Cuban cigars into the states. :o They can not fly over nor be transported through!

On that same cruise the CD the last night had a smoke till you drop on the top deck! :p Anyone they even had suspicions that they had cigars were detained in customs!

IF you live in the states you can smoke them on the ship or in port, where allowed BUT don't bring them into the states. IF you are from another country have them shipped to your country directly from where you buy them. :)

  14. We have used clear contact paper; it works well!

    Enjoy your cruise.

We have lost too many luggage tags while flying. I think that the airport workers here and in the states think it is their job to separate our luggage tags from our luggage!

Most times we fly in for our cruise. Contact paper works GREAT and has stayed stapled and has never come off! :D

  15. Hey Karon!

8086 should be just fine. It is under the spa' date=' so there is no noise there. Too bad you didn't get 8088 with the fabulous balcony!! But no worries.....you got a good cabin!![/size']

It should be a GREAT cabin. Friends had 8088 in March and loved it. There was no noise at night a little during the day. It is under the Spa but I think it is under the shower area. The Spa closes early so no one would be up there. They also don't open too early in the morning. ;)

We were on the other side in 8588 and loved it! Hope you enjoy the ship . . . We sure did and would sail again in a minute! ! !

  16. Does the Vision of the seas junior bathrooms have grab bars in the bathtub?

Yes, that is a grab bar BUT the tub is elevated so that it is a good step up in to the tub or down depending to the floor. I would not recommend this tub for anyone that had any kind of mobility or balance problems! ! ! :o

The "secret" staircase isn't a secret it just isn't on the ship's map! It is a GREAT shortcut to the Spa or the Solarium areas! ;)

  17. We have been dealing with the IT department too but over a different issue. Since they did their "up-grade" they are worse than ever. There are several "new" opportunities! ;)

One when we try to log in it puts us into Spanish. Doesn't matter what we do or what country we have as a preference. Spanish isn't the problem! The problem is that it won't give us any of the discounts that we are eligible to receive! We have called and called. They say tomorrow or in 24 hours . . . That was MANY 24 hours or tomorrows ago!

It is frustrating especially with the specials going on now. When I call they say that IT can only be reached via email. I have sent several emails but all have bounced! Wonder if the box is full?

  18. Gina, so sorry to hear about the loss of your points. Believe me we UNDERSTAND your frustration of trying to get something done while you are away from you computer! ! ! It is NO fun.

We now travel with a "passport" that is a back-up of our hard-drive for our main computers. We are in between two countries so it makes it even harder! :( Will be praying that you can get those points back! Will the loss change your status for this cruise.

I just did a print screen of our past cruises and one of our future cruises FOR BOTH OF US! :D I hope that this will be enough along with our Sea Passes from our past cruises. I almost got rid of the BUT now I'm so glad that I didn't. Cello56 I love your idea of a Ring clip to keep them. I have a three-inch one so it will work for now! :p
