  1. Someone who is well travelled and has a long cruise resume should certainly have the right expectations when it comes to a cruise, but that does not mean that they do. You were willing to give plenty of weight to this person's review when you thought they were saying the cruise "sucked", but once they basically said the cruise was really good in spite of some flaws ( which may be temporary on a brand new ship ) you are ready to discount that.

I'm sure we have all read reviews from very experienced cruisers that are full of drama and over exaggeration. When they start about the elevators, I roll my eyes. I never did figure out what this posters problem was with the entertainment. The OP had some good points about flaws, but there was a lot, apparently the majority, which they did like.

I still give it weight. She had lots of complaints...suck was my word.

Thought the overall tone was negative.

Wonder what a review would be for a cruise that truly sucked.

  2. That actually one of my favorite things about NCL - so many different options to eat when your 1st choice is too crowded and/or having an off-day in food/service.[emoji4]

How far away is your second choice and how crowded will it be when you get there. Then how far away is your third choice?

Never mind actually responding, I'm sure it will be OK.

  3. Indeed.

And now everyone gets to point out just how far they are above that type of comment. Bravo!

Given the many posts by the OP and the locations mentioned as previously lived in, I will accept that the OP has more experience than the many of the posters being critical.

If the NCL Escape sucked for this OP then I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

  4. Having taken multiple cruises on both NCL and Carnival, the two lines are much more similar than not. The only differences I noticed were that NCL's buffet was superior to Carnival's while Carnival's MDR was superior to NCL's, the new pizza on Carnival was better than NCL's, NCL had fewer announcements, and NCL's entertainment was generally better. Specialty restaurants on both lines are generally very good, with the exception of NCL's Shanghai (horrid place). Other than that, they're pretty much on the same level in terms of cruising. I didn't notice any more "nickel and diming" on one versus the other.

More upscale restaurants gave more opportunity for nickle and diming on NCL. Especially a la carte if one is not careful.

But NCL is simply a slightly more expensive Carnival with some slight differences.

Or they were before they jacked up the prices on their cruises.

    Phooey on NCL

  5. Don't care for the MDR's on NCL

    Don't like buffets period.

    NCL= Specialty Restaurants

Otherwise no other reason to sail NCL for us. You can survive on the free stuff and have moments of culinary success.

Phooey on NCL for making cruising difficult and annoying.

  6. I disagree. We have a cruiseline that charges for everything so that prices are low. They are called Carnival.

Imagine if they included unlimited free drinks, unlimited soda, paid gratuities, $75 off each port excursion, free airport transfers and free Internet for everyone? Do you really think any of these things are that expensive to offer? Yes it would add cost but not that much. No mass market cruise does it, and NCL could pull it off for half the price the luxury line charge. And just think, they could eliminate everything it takes to track and recover all these costs.

I would be first in line for such a cruise.

CCL charges for everything? I spent way more out of pocket $ on NCL

But NCL does it on the cheap even so.

    Phooey on NCL

  7. I just don't see the reason to get all upset over something that we are not 100% sure is going to happen. If it is announced, then I say go for it and be as mad as heck; write NCL, hang a banner from the ceiling, yell it to the rooftops, etc., but until then getting upset really serves no purpose, IMHO.

BTW, thanks for being fair. That is why I said neither is wrong, just that someone got some bad information. Which one, well time will tell. Wish NCL was still posting on here, so we would know one way or another what the real deal is.

You really don't see a reason to get all upset at anything NCL does...ever.

  8. That's your situation - I happen to be in a room category where I don't get much freebies (and can't use 3 of them anyway) but got a great deals for time of year sailing and booked early (Studio room after Thanksgiving and before Christmas - booked in the springtime). $2,000 for 3 weeks (7 days each ) on Breakaway-class ships for 1 person, is not a bad deal.

I've taken a family of 4 during that same period for less than that.

And the kids did not sail free.
