  1. My original post included the other lunch items as well as the Pub Lunch. You could order several appetizers, burgers, Pasta Cabonara, and several desserts.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

While I am not a big fan of the pub lunch, I think it a good step in the right direction. Just as Princess has introduced Crown Grill steaks as a premium entree in the MDR, I would like to see them occasionally offer Planks and Crab Shack or Steamers fare in the Main Dining Room.

Yea, I know the logistics are difficult. Our own demographics have one of us that loves the Crab Shack, Planks and Steamer type of food and another one that like the dinner and service in a more formal setting. Guess who wins that issue?

  2. Hi shof515,

Thanks for your info. I assume that the username and password will be indicated on the welcome paperwork that the ship leaves in our room. If not, please let me know.

    Skyglider

T Mobile at one time included Canada in its plan(s). Another method is to bring a I-Pad / Tab or other WiFi device and use that rather than your phone for the email and WiFi.. In both Canada and US ports you will find lots and lots of sites that will allow you to connect for free or for the price of coffee. We have yet to be stranded by a lack of communication anywhere. We have been able to receive all those spam, spoofs, ads, and phishing no matter where we we travel.

  3. My daughter refers to them as "one size fits no one." Yes' date=' they are ok for when you get out of the shower, and very little else.

Suites do have much nicer ones.[/quote']

So nice we bought three in January with some OBC.

  4. so, no brewed coffee, no bottled water, no sodas, no specialty coffees, no specialty teas?

    no fun?

It is so individual, voljeep. For moderate and non-drinkers, the value is slight to nil as the person indicated. For an elite who can score coffee cards in exchange for a bar set-up, it makes up for the coffee and tea portion which we enjoy. So, in my case, the three for free values out better. We have managed to have real fine times without a lot of alcohol. And yes, I do appreciate that the "no fun" was said tongue in cheek.

  5. Princess robes are made for very skinny people :).

    Hank

I find them to be adequate. While I am not skinny, I am not yet "looking prosperous" sized either. For the purpose of covering myself up from the shower or standing on the balcony, they are fine.

  6. Steak and escargots are not on the always available menu as on celebrity, so you may notice that. Also the dining room is on one level vs. the multilevel ones on celebrity. Rest of the experience is very similar.

I ordered up them escargots once and some joker put snails on my plate. Yup, stolen directly from "The Jerk".

  7. We recently booked the 10 day Oct 31, 2018 Panama Canal sailing. I’m trying to find some info on Wi Fi aboard. There is a mention of it in public areas, but no info on whether you have to pay for it.

    Anyone have any knowledge ?

The WiFi is free. You can establish an account and get some useful information on your account(s) and the daily activities. It will also assist in knowing where some things are on the ship. There is some basic abilities to communicate across to other accounts, but no audible alerts.

The internet is fee based. Some ships have established levels of service according to your usage. Others have a fee based on the number of minutes used. If you look on your booking, you can see the options available on the on board reservations tab. One note of caution, make sure that you properly log off.

  8. Hello Neighbor,

Here is our experience. We have never had any ship laundry damage. My wife prefers to do some laundry by hand and let it air dry in the bath. If there are many elites on the cruise, there will be a time-frame of 2-3 days to get clothing back We typically do more frequent small batches in the beginning of the cruise when it takes a bit longer. I believe this is a function of many people using the service to take care of their pre-cruise laundry. As the cruise progresses, the laundry comes back quicker, sometimes as short as the next day. We do not take short cruises so I can not tell you what happens on them. If we were on say, a 7 day cruise, I would tend to do my laundry after the cruise at home. We launder everything we we get back anyway.

  9. Traveling on Crown in November and was wondering if Sabatini's has the new menu. Thanks!

In as much as they have not renamed it Sabatini's Trattoria, I would imagine that it has not transitioned to the new menu. We prefer the older menu, but of course, tastes differ.

  10. Not really.....it can be a sought after venue.

Funny. They wouldn't have to deal with, well, some of us.

I have never had an issue with any of the wait staff on any particular meal alteration. Now, I have had my sardines for my Caesar salad come on the side so I could chose how many go onto the plate (the answer is all of them). I like to limit some of my carbs so I often ask for my main course to be potato free. OK, so I do know that I could just not eat them, but I am a first generation American raised in the "eat everything on your plate" era. But, at any rate, I would prefer not to see spuds on the plate if I am not intending to eat them. I have had some interesting plates served; sometimes with extra veggies, sometimes with evidence that the potatoes have been removed, but I have never ever been denied my little eccentricities.

  11. Mourn the passing of 'Landfill Diner'.

Also, if you have lunch in a main dining room on embarcation day, just

ask one of the head waiters there.

They are ready, as many people want to miss, or not miss particular nights.

It seems to me that this is an opportunity to enhance Princess at Sea. Just make the menus available there. They are standard for each cruise for the most part. Minimally, put the daily lunch and dinner menus there. I would imagine it would save the wait staff some time.

  12. I don't personally feel that way, but I guess I can understand if someone doesn't want to stay in

a cabin where a murder occurs.

Ever day I have to drive on roads where death has occured. I try not to dwell on it.

The cabin number was posted more than a year ago.

What will you gain by following along now ... that will affect your cruise?

    https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=53643086&postcount=167

Yep Pablo, I tend to agree. It is sort of like if a tree falls in the forest and...... If a bad thing happens in a cabin and goes unreported, did it occur? Nope, because it wasn't reported on CC. But then, I can understand someone being reluctant to book a cruise in a cabin that they took a long time and effort to find that something awful happened in it.

  13. I've cruised on Princess quite a few times , always in a mini-suite. (Loved them). Unfortunately circumstances have changed; my DH has passed away. A mini-suite is now financially out of the question But I still do want to continue cruising.

Princess is a line we enjoyed (2 Alaska cruises, one China to Vancouver, one around the Horn, etc.) and one to which I should like to return for shorter length cruises out of Florida if possible.

Looking at online photos of outside and balcony cabins, ships on Princess do not seem to have a sitting area (sofa) as do Celebrity, HAL & RCI . It is an amenity I need.

If some ships do have a sofa in their balcony cabin, would appreciate your letting me know.

    Thanks .

    Sorry for your loss.

Try the deluxe balconies on the Royal class ships. They have a sofa but less total area then the mini suites. They likewise have less of a premium than the minis.

  14. You may find that a wine you loved in Vines has been sitting in a previously opened bottle for "a bit too long" in MDR... Been there. Done that. Great in Vines. Corked in MDR.

Ah Thrak, you just brought back a memory of my brother. At the wedding of our niece, the wedding favor was a beautiful crystal and stainless steel wine stopper. Hank asked me, I being the most gullible, what it was. When I explained it was to keep unfinished wine from spoiling he, of course, said that he had never actually seen a bottle of unfinished wine. Thanks for the memory.

  15. Today my partner celebrates his 40th birthday. It was very nice for him to receive an e-mail this morning from Princess wishing him a happy birthday.

However, the little gift they included left us both bemused.

Was it a discount off a future cruise?

A complimentary bottle of wine perhaps...or a discount off a spa treatment?

No they sent him a colouring in book which he can download.

    How exciting.

Has anyone else spent their 40th birthday colouring in their Princess picture books?

While I have not received anything like that from Princess, it may be because I have already mastered staying inside the lines. I would suggest that your partner just needs to practice, practice, practice and he will move up the birthday gift chain to get, maybe, a magnet.

  16. Oh man! If it's Gordon Dedman who is giving the lectures, you owe it to yourself to attend. I had the pleasure of attending his lectures on the Regal back in 2017 and it was pretty much the highlight of my trip. I posted about it here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=52085183&postcount=44

Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll be on the Emerald this January. I'd love to sit in on his lectures again.

Thanks for the information on Gordon Dedman, I will look out for him in the Patters. Also thanks for the link. I very much enjoyed reading it, especially for you wonderful tongue-in-cheek style.

  17. We did the 28 day Hawaii/South Pacific cruise last October. There was a woman who lectured on each island as we came to them. She totally blew it on one island - Pago Pago. I believe she was likely speaking about Apia (which we didn't visit) because pretty much everything she said about the island and the culture was totally wrong. There were a lot of very annoyed passengers who listened to her speak and then found out they had been given totally bogus info. Many didn't attend her talks after that fiasco.

Thanks for the warning, Thrak. We go to Apia, so maybe it will be somewhat useful.

Cruisin'Rabbit, thank you as well. With this many sea days, we like the lectures.... if they are interesting.

  18. They are doing it sooner due to having to pay for shore excursions in advance now. I have it applied towards a cruise in 2020.

I sent (faxed) mine in on Saturday afternoon and it posted to my account on Monday. Unfortunately, they posted to my folio not my wife's. We like to balance the folios since I get the veterans credit. The customer service rep took care of it in minutes while I was on the phone. Excellent turn around and service. I would suggest giving them a call if it has not posted to the account in a week.... if you have time before the departure.

  19. SOS... similar to C&W's. :D :o

Ah yes, chipped beef on toast. I actually like(ed) it. My sister-in-law made a version of it with Phyllo pastry cup and a delicate white wine sauce. I was told that I was not to use the SOS term. Its corollary here is sausage gravy on a biscuit, or sausage biscuit, which I also love. Do not mistake the Princess breakfast offering as a legitimate version.

  20. We usually don’t use the ship’s laundry when we travel. We’re now Elite and traveling in a full suite on our upcoming Regal transatlantic. So, free laundry is now available to us. Since it’s a 14 day voyage it would come in handy. We’ve heard and read stories about ship’s laundry’s not being very gentle when cleaning clothes. My DW is wondering what your experience has been on the Regal ... and, do you have any control over water temperature used?

To answer your last question first, no there is no temperature option on the laundry / cleaning. We have used the laundry extensively as we typically go on longer cruises and tend to pack lightly. My wife likes to hand wash or use the self laundry for those items she wishes to have laundered gently. I have all of my stuff go down to the laundry. Outside of them losing a pair of running shorts, I have not experienced any problems with them.

  21. If he's interested in walking or running, the Promenade (on ships that have one) will be available. Note: on some ships the bow may be blocked in the early AM - on the CB it opened at 7:00.

The 7 am opening must be new. It used to be 6 am but treadmills were not available until 7 am . The ellipticals, exercycles, rowers were always available earlier. I can attest to the Royal Class ships having fitness center availability at 5:30 am.
