Usually you have 24-48 hours to decline upgrade IF you receive notification.

But my post stated my fb friend did not get notified and found out upon embarkation today.

That's horrible.   I am going on a Princess cruise in January. I said sure to accepting upgrades.  I assumed that I could refuse if I didn't like upgrade.  I would be very unhappy if I got upgraded to a cabin I did not want. I will watch my reservation carefully.

    Thanks

Agree with @Lady Arwen.  It seems we need to be vigilant as to cabin assignment and if the unexpected happens be able to contact PCL ASAP to get the original cabin assignment restored.  If time has passed, it will be too late.

Are you not given the chance to decline the upgrade?  The cruise line just changes your cabin?

    Dear @mittenscat23,

Great question! We’re happy to jump in to confirm that Shipboard Credit may be used towards gratuities for onboard staff on our ocean, as @Wa Cruiser correctly stated, as well as river cruises.

We hope this helps as you gear up for your upcoming sojourn and invite any additional inquiries, from you and fellow Viking voyagers, to TellUs@vikingcruises.com should you wish to chat about your individual journeys.

    Happy New Year,
    Viking Cruises

Thank you Viking Cruises for answering my question.   Looking forward to our cruise.

  4. I know this question has been asked and answered already but I can not find it?  So here it is again...can on board credit be used towards gratuities?  Other cruise lines allow this but I can not remember with Viking?

    Thank you

Viking use the Old San Juan Pier for turnarounds, we did it there in February without any problems.

I love Viking cruises.  We decided to try Azamara .  The embarkation is in San Juan. When we did Windstar out of San Juan we were able to walk our luggage to the ship from the hotel to start the cruise..  That was nice.

Will be a  taxi to Pan America pier.

If you are stopping for the day, you'll be in Old San Juan. If it is a debarkation port, you'll be at the Pan American Pier.

Thank you.   I was hoping it was the port in old San Juan. Windstar uses old San Juan port and j have been there to embark ship.

  7. Does anyone know where the Azamara Journey docks in San Juan?  Is it in the old town area?  I checked cruise mapper but could not find the Azamara's docking location for a December 14th cruise.

    Thank you

Hubby and I will be sailing Zaandam from Montreal to Boston this summer (our 5th cruise/ 3rd on HAL-OoSterdam and Statendam). Does the Zaandam offer unlimited laundry for $49/wk?  We enjoyed this service on our other HAL cruises and can pack very light if we know we will have reasonably priced laundry services.

We have booked a Vista Suite on deck 6.  The cabin pictures on HAL show a small flat screen TV on the desk.  Has HAL changed to a larger wall mounted TV on the Zaandam?  (TV is not important to us, but the small TV makes the room look outdated.)

We will be flying into Montreal the night before the cruise and staying at the Fairfield near the airport.  Any suggestions or info on transportation to the cruise terminal?  Will language be a problem? (We don't speak French.)

Any other info on the ship or Canadian ports would be appreciated!

We may be on the same  cruise and hotel...which cruise week are you sailing?  We are June 1.

My husband and I have only cruised once on Viking Ocean and really enjoyed the experience. We weren’t terribly impressed with our choices at Manfredi’s however. We have another cruise coming up soon. Does anyone have suggestions for their favorite dishes at Manfredi’s?  Maybe you can steer us to something we’ll love.

Their steak is my first choice and I found out on my last cruise I could ask for a small cut so I did not have this giant piece of meat on my plate.  The bread basket selection is also really good.

Yes--I am glad all is well! And they changed the webcam views so we can watch it turn around!

Looking forward to my TA on 2/28.

    Hello

We are on the TA 2/28 with you so I have been following this discussion and joining the Facebook group. Looking forward to the cruise and hope NORO  gone and ship all repaired.

In general they are good. You have to read the (long) descriptions carefully before you buy, because they are (in our experience) very accurate, honest descriptions of the excursion. It is hard to predict in advance whether any given port will have easy access to downtown. We particularly select Windstar excursions to get to places that are 60 or more minutes "out of town".

Our last pair of cruises went to several very small Asian ports, one of the plusses of Windstar. But in the cases where there was no terminal building, taxi line, or walk-to-downtown, I never tested whether the "temporary" tourist office in a tent was able to phone for a taxi to come to the port!

Some of the tours on our 212-passenger ship filled up by the time of the previous evening's Port Talk. (I'm just mentioning that, not urging you to make a hasty decision in advance ... )

    Thank you for the information.

There is a bedside stand on either side of the queen-size bed so I would imagine they can place the stands on either side of the twin beds when they are pulled apart.

Thank you.  I asked because on some of Crystal ships the bedside tables are attached to the wall and you can not move them.  I have not been on Windstar before so thought I better ask before I book.

Here is what is as of today what the USA Viking web site shows under payment terms. Nothing about 12 month prepayment.

    Payment Policy

A deposit for cruise/land of $500 per person is required to secure a confirmed reservation for a cruise. When more than one cruise is booked, deposit and payment policies apply per cruise. The final balance is due no later than 90 days prior to sailing but special promotions may require an earlier payment. Exceptions to this Payment Policy apply for cruise tours more than 35 days, including Viking’s World & Grand Cruises. Contact your travel agent or Viking for details.

Also the cancellation terms are the same

    a. Cancellation Fee Schedule Effective for Cruise Tours (other than World & Grand Cruises) booked on and after August 1, 2018:

    1. In the event of cancellations actually received by us 120 days or more prior to the scheduled departure, a refund of all amounts already paid to us will be made, less a cancellation fee of $100 per person;

This is exactly what we found.  We took advantage of an air promotion (actually I think everything winds up as a promotion) and we paid in full 6 months in advance.

  14. And I provided Viking's policy on such matters for those who are unaware of them. No sarcasm was intended.

There is a lot of information in the Viking Terms and Conditions that anyone who is not familiar with Viking (as I was not familiar with the line) should be interested in reading instead of assuming that all cruise lines are the same.

And those differences are the reason we decided to give Viking a try.

    I agree with you.

And for further informational purposes when I booked I was informed by my Viking rep that I was locked in at my booking price. But if the prices increased in the future and I wanted to upgrade to a higher category cabin, I would get it at the lower price that the upgraded cabin was when I originally booked. I would be ahead in that case. If I wanted to take advantage of future possible lower fares I needed to cancel the booking and rebook at the new rate.

Also when the fares decrease they are considered promotional fares. I asked about that too.
