  1. Thats extremely kind of you S thanks for the kind words.

You can’t PM on CC but I see no reason not to simply post the VPN she is using. Most of them that advertise access don’t work but it is difficult to complain because of the purpose the VPN is used for. They all seem to offer free trials.

To access Netflix US if you use IPvanish and select Dallas and let it select the best server you should be able to access it as though in the US. I’ve been using the same server for a year or so. You can google offers and should come up with an IPVanish offer of up to 70% off. That should allow you a free trial so if you try it and it doesn’t work you cancel and pay nothing. The app is loadable onto Ipad, onto a PC via the app shop in Amazon, or there is a method of sending it to an Amazon Fire set top box if you google - it can be sent and “sideloaded” from an Android phone. I’ve just rechecked and IPVanish at Dallas is giving me full Netflix US content.

I use to use a couple of Slingboxes for overseas TV viewing but they have all given up.

    Thanks again for the comments.

    Jeff,

Netflix US up and running. VPN worked perfectly.

You have made my daughter’s day. She Has her last exam for her Leaving Cert ( Economics) tomorrow- like your A Levels and has her US shows lined up for afterwards!

She tells me the VPN she uses is non paying - Hola!VPN

    Hope it works for you.

  2. Sakaara,

I don’t want to start the other poster off again by asking the obvious question, so have replied here in order to try and help you.

It was made to sound easy but you will be extremely lucky if you find any VPN that allows access to any of the UK terrestrial broadcasters as they have highly sophisticated detection systems and they update them dynamically.

I suggest you ask the poster who suggested it the detail of what VPN he is using and what city and node they are connected to, to give access to UK Broadcasters. You would be very lucky to hit on one that works by chance, and I suspect you will find there isn’t one. I had several VPNs on my last trip to Vienna and previously to Singapore and even tested them whilst in the UK, and have worked my way through every node on each and found none offer UK broadcaster access. However IPVanish on some US nodes gives US Netflix. The BBC is the most robust and most difficult to circumvent.

TVCatdhup does seem to allow you to watch live UK TV because I think they are rebroadcasting.

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks so much for explanation. We used to be able to get US Netflix but it’s blocked completely now.

I’ve just spoken to my daughter and she has told me she can access BBC player, using a VPN. I don’t know how to message you privately with her VPN, but let me know and you could try it and see if it would work for you in Vienna or Singapore.

    I’m not at all techie.

We are very lucky here on the Silversea Watercooler to have you. You are an expert in so many areas, and I know I’m not alone in my appreciation of the fact that you give so much of your time trying to help and assist everyone.

It’s increasingly disturbing the amount of Vitriol against you. Totally unwarranted.

I really wish you the best of luck with compensation from SS.

  3. Crikey, you have got a few furry babies....my pooch is a five year old black lab.....an absolute treasure....🐕

Very sad news this morning to hear a dear friend of mine passed away at just 52....she was the other half of the local farm shop l use and I’ve known her since she was 16.......

    Enjoy every day 😊

    Sophia,

Sorry to hear such sad news. Far too young!

  4. Channel 5 do have an app called My5 where you can watch things on catchup. Not sure if it works overseas though.

    Unfortunately, doesn’t work in Ireland.

We can only view channel 5 live at 9pm on Sky but can’t record, rewind or pause.

I have been able to view a couple of Jane’s brilliant shows online, through ‘dodgy’ websites, eg Vietnam , Iceland, Cuba and LA but none of the other episodes. Just try through YouTube, or google the Series and Episode number using Jane McDonald.

I missed the first Episode on Aus/NZ as I hadn’t tuned the channel 5 in on Sky Other Channels manually.

I agree, that Jane would be difficult to dislike, and her love of life is infectious!

I’m sure dinner at her table is never boring!

    Hope that helps.

  5. Greetings Coolers!

    Today's funny..........

    Have a great day all!

Love your funny again today Mysty!

Reminds me of myself when I’m in Florida and have Ghd straightened my hair Perfectly, then walk outside:')

Your photos of Alberta are really stunning. With direct flights to Canada from Dublin, I have no excuse.

    Thanks so much for sharing.

  6. Good Morning all!

Early mornings aren't the same without the Voddy. I miss it. :)

JP - where are the burger piccies. After all these years wifey has finally said that the favourite burgers are the cheapest Waitrose ones in Ocado brioche buns. All those years of scratch making them for the illusive perfection wasted.

Dave, quite understand if you don't wish to expand ... but you have a hotel ...!? Sounds interesting.

Jilly - shame you can't join us for our birthdays in Vienna in September. Vienna is better than France and Italy. ;) There will be beer and pork and life doesn't get much better.

Saks - were those onions and peppers flamed rather than roasted? Always inquisitive about important details. :D

    Some Netflix I think.

    Morning Jeff,

The peppers and onion were roasted separately to the lamb on skewers on the bbq.

I have just bought some wooden Alder planks for Seabass fillets on the bbq which is also very successful. Charred flavour, and so quick.

  7. Just treated myself to another Torp ... for Seaside! A blue/grey one. I have a red one here.

It has nothing at all to do with them selling my favourite Austrian lager. The Balcony and draught Gosser @2centigrade. Life doesn't get better. :)

So disappointed this isn’t available in Ireland yet.

  8. We landed in Athens last night at 10:45p. Our hotel and Prestige Limousine had been in touch with us the day before to let us know the taxi strike had no impact on private drivers. However, once we cleared baggage claim, there were plenty of taxis available at the airport, so the strike certainly didn't last long.

    Bon Voyage Stumblefoot’s,

Hope you have a wonderful cruise!

  9. Jeff,

I’m stunned to hear how bad room service has been for you. We have only cruised three times with Silversea.

We enjoy room service, both for breakfast and dinner with a movie, especially when you have had a long busy day and can’t be bothered to dress up.

We have obviously been very lucky to have never encountered cold food being served.

I feel you can excuse it once but to consistently have cold food and wrong orders and missing items altogether is completely incompetent and inexcusable.

What has the Hotel Director said in response to this? Presumably he has checked back with you?

Also you filled in a mid cruise questionaire. Any feedback?

I would be seething. You both deserve Sainthood for staying so calm with what appears to be playtime at the zoo!

I will be very interested in seeing the outcome of your legal proceedings.

  10. In this particular suite, possibly due to the connecting door, there was no tv in the bedroom.

We definitely felt like the suite was smaller than the other previous suites we stayed in on deck 9.

Although the bathroom was beautiful, I would really miss the bath.

There was only one suite to view that day, but I wonder if the non connecting suites have a tv?

  11. Honestly Jeff, I don’t know how you have kept so calm. I’m really sorry you have had such an awful experience. I commiserate with you on the cologne. We had breakfast out recently, the restaurant was virtually empty but our server must have bathed in aftershave.

We could practically taste it whilst eating. We both felt like we were getting headaches.

Happy to hear you have your transfer sorted.

Wishing you the best for the remainder of your cruise and journey home.

  12. We stayed at the Conrad last year.

As we are Hilton Honours members we were offered a very reasonable upgrade to include the Executive Lounge on check in. It was definitely worth it for us.

Great hotel, very central and lovely modern rooms.

  13. We recently visited Silver Spirit for lunch while in Dublin, and had the opportunity to view one of the new Suites in the stretched area, number 652.

We felt the suite felt smaller, it is also a connecting suite. It has one Tv only in the living area.

The bathroom has a large walk in shower but no bath. We loved the colour scheme and finish of the bathroom.

We invited friends who have never cruised previously.

We had a lovely lunch in Atlantide.

In another thread Les37b mentions that the the lunch menu wasn’t great.

Three of us asked for Fillet steak with Peppercorn sauce from The Anytime Dining menu. The meat was excellent.

One chose the Thai seafood Curry from the lunch menu which was declared delicious!

    Our starters were disappointing.

We all chose prawn cocktail, which was very basic. Four prawns with a blob of Marie Rose sauce and a few leaves. Very uninspired.

Apologies for lack of photos as we were enjoying ourselves too much.

I had started my beef when I realised I had forgotten to take a photo, so not the best picture.

We had wonderful afternoon and our friends were very impressed.
