  1. We are staying at the Renaissance on 17th St. Fort Lauderdale. We plan to take Uber or taxi to terminal 2 for the Royal. As a backup plan is walking an option? The distance is short but are there sidewalks on Eisenhower Blvd and can you walk down 20th St. to terminal 2. I assume there is a security checkpoint but do they allow walk in traffic.

Again we are not planning on walking but I would like to know if it is doable. We have no mobility issues and all the bags have wheels.

  2. I have a couple of questions. Do they pick up at the airport, and are they able to drop off at the pier without any problems? What about availability, are you able to get them when you need them?

I really appreciate any information you have.

  3. No phone call in the procedure, just present a body for booking.

The B2B cruisers can book starting at 8:30 so they will take some slots.

It's a crazy procedure but DW and I make a game of it and split up to see who gets there first.

On the Royal there are only 6 sets of forward facing chairs on the front line. Four sets of two chairs and two double chairs. I spend the majority of the time in the gazebo so we like the double chair, giving DW double the space.

  4. We did the Royal Oct 11 and Oct 31. We booked the sanctuary for the entire cruise both times.

If you want it for the entire cruise then it is important to board early and go up to the sanctuary before you do anything else. Our routine is the sanctuary, retreat bar outside of the sanctuary to buy the AIBP's, then the cabin to drop off the bags before heading to the MDR for lunch.

Princess opens gates at 11:00 and boarding normally starts at 11;30, if there are no unexpected delays. Both cruises we were on board the Royal by 11:36.

  5. I realize the AIBP includes gratuities and it is disseminated to different departments (not just bars) and then the employees get a tiny cut depending on their department. However when we

give our favorite bartenders extra cash tips at the end of a cruise, where does the money go? Do they keep it (my first choice), do they pool it for that specific bar or does it go into the AIBP gratuities formula?

  6. I could be wrong but I thought I saw a temporary stand alone sign out side of Alfredo's on the Royal saying something like formal dress required. We just got off the Royal after 20 days.

This may be new because I didn't see the sign on our first 10 day but did see it on the last 10 day getting off the Royal, Nov 10. I'm sure current cruisers will let everyone know.

  7. I know they don't have this rum onboard but does anybody know where I can get it, either in the Caribbean or the states. We just came back from Barbados on the Royal and I asked around and they never heard of it. We leave again on the Royal Saturday (same itinerary). The only place I have seen it is in Germany.

    Thanks

    Todd

  8. With regards to Global entry, they do not have the machines but they have the express line labeled Global entry. You do hand the agent your passport's along with the standard customs form but not sure if he even opened them up, I just remember him giving them right back and saying welcome back.

  9. We got off the Royal yesterday after completing a 10 day sailing.

We had a very pleasant embarkation, we were on the ship by 11:35.

We booked the sanctuary for the entire cruise and we really enjoyed it!

We did buy the all inclusive drink sticker. I think we will do it again but it is expensive at $1127 for two people. We ended up drinking more than we would of without it but liked the fact we had access to can soda and big bottles of water to bring back to the room. Also no extra charge for upscale cafe and gelato. The bartenders were real friendly and respected the drink sticker.

    We loved the ship!

Debarkation went smooth. They had Global entry which saved time.

  10. The cruise is completely full and our adult son is number 4 on the wait list. Anybody have any experience on how much movement there may be with in the last 48 to 24 hours. Probably looking for an interior room. We are booked on the cruise but having him in our mini suite isn't going to work.
