Hi, we are also 60 year olds, live in Manchester UK but unfortunately not yet retired.
We will be travelling with Celebrity next March - but you need to look at the ports of call, read some reviews, decide which ship is best for you.
We are really looking forward to our trip and hope that whichever line you choose that you have a great time.
Which part of Manchester are you from - we are from Bury.

When we were on Azamara they arranged for all passengers to have a visa - whether you wanted/needed one or not!
They automatically added the fee to the on board spend account to be paid at the end of the cruise. It was at the US visa rate - not the UK visa rate which at that time meant that we paid $40.
-
Ok - this is not a complaint - it is a statement of fact!
I saw an offer on the Tuesday deal, $1599 for an Aqua cabin and thought that I would book. It was where we wanted to go, at the time we wanted to go, in the cabin we wanted and at a price that we were happy to pay.
As in the UK we cannot access the .com website I phoned Celebrity - to find out the price for the exact same cabin through Celebrity UK is £1917 ($3067). We cannot book through Celebrity US so it looks like I am not booking.

This is interesting. I have a question. I have something called Bio Gel on my nails and they usually last about 3 weeks. Next year I am going on a 4 week cruise, will be away for longer and need to find a solution for my nails. Having read this thread it seems a French Polish could be the answer.
My concern is that when I had a French Polish last year - it yellowed after several days from the chemicals that I used cleaning and washing pots. As, every time you get on and off the ship or go in to a dining venue it is required to use the alcohol rub - what effect will it have on my nails? Will it tinge the colour?
Thanks

I am wondering whether miniowl is a female on her own and worried about the steward (possibly male) entering her room when she is there on her own. If that is the case miniowl - do not worry - when you are in there then just put your do not disturb on the door and you will be left in peace.
If I have put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5 then I am sorry if that was not your concern.
Go away and relax.

The only thing that we take with and do not intend to bring home are the wine bottles.
Many years ago on a land vacation in The Gambia we had bought several cheap tops fully intending to leave them behind - 23 tops for less than £30 ($20) between us. On the last day we piled all the tops up and told the room cleaner that he was welcome to them all - the very broad grin on his face brought a lump to my throat - to think that someone was so grateful for those clothes. (This did not replace his tip!)

I need to be in Istanbul on 28th June 2015 from early morning until about midnight. So I thought that I would try to see if there was a cruise either starting on the Monday 29th June or finishing on the Saturday 27th June 2015. That way I could tag a cruise on to my visit. Even better would be a cruise ship overnighting on the Sunday 28th - that would be more than fantastic!
I have tried to look at some port sites but cannot see all the ships - is it too early for those sites to be updated?
Does anyone know whether there is a ship that meets my requirements? Other than that is there any way of finding what ship is going to be where next year other than looking through every ships itinerary for every cruise line?
I know that this seems an odd way of choosing a cruise and it might be that if a particular ship meets my initial needs then I still might not want to go on it - for any number of reasons.
Hope that someone can help

Also, sometimes if there is a code red as a result of norovirus on the ship - the library could be closed!

What is a top chef cruise please?

Terry, thanks for taking time out of your holiday to let us join you on your travels.
A cruise around Australia and New Zealand had never appealed to me but I started to read this thread and I am hooked.
I cannot go for another couple of years but when I do I will read back through your comments and plan our journey.
Please keep checking this thread for a few years so that I can post questions!
Thank you

Brilliant, thank you very much for your help.

We will be going on the Infinity but I cannot find details of the ultimate dining package for that ship. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I have managed to find the 3 & 5 day packages but not the one mentioned above.

I read somewhere that from December 2013 through to April 2014 they are doing something to the flood barriers so all cruise ships cannot use the usual route or port. After April the very large ships might have to dock elsewhere but others will continue to use the usual port. Then from November 2014 they hope to stop all ships using the usual route and port.

Is there a way to work it out on the Infinity please?

This is very sad news, he was always so professional and dedicated to Azamara. He managed to diffuse many a heated thread with his calm nature and wit and was extremely informative. He responded quickly to questions and I felt that he was a friend even though I only corresponded with him a couple of times on Cruise Critic.
My condolences to his family, friends and all of the Azamara team.
He will be missed and a tough act to follow.

On Princess it's only in the Traditional dining room and it's a Baked Alaska parade where we twirl our napkins and applaude the waiters and Junior waiters. They bring out the Chef and some of the kitchen staff but it's definitely about the waiters.
If the OP eats in Princess' version of Select she wouldn't see it at all.
Funny thing is that we sail Celebrity in Aqua class and this doesn't happen in Blu so maybe the OP should try that. ;)
We were in Blu earlier this year and there was a parade of waiters, chefs, kitchen staff and sommeliers on the last evening. Everyone dining at the time stood and applauded with smiles on their faces. The food and service had been outstanding for the whole cruise and this gave us all an opportunity to show that we had appreciated all of their efforts.
Some will say that we should show appreciation financially but that is a different thread completely!

Throw it all away?

Thanks Kevinyork, we are based in the UK so if I book a 7 day cruise in an ordinary balcony cabin - we will get 14 new points plus 25 bonus points bringing the total to 39 captains club points - is that correct?
-
Right, please do not shout.
I am sure the answer is somewhere but I cannot find it. I read (I think) that for a short period of time if you book a cruise you get additional points in addition to those that you get under the new scheme. I think that the number was 25 and that there are some restrictions but I cannot remember.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks

Well I am not Kathleen, I am Sharon and I just got an email from another cruise line that I have never travelled with addressed to their loyal customer Mr Fox and offering a very good discount!

Hope that you get the positive call soon

We recently returned from a cruise in the Med. A couple missed the ship at one of the ports, cannot remember which, they were very lucky however as they got a lift with the pilot boat. As the pilot boat came alongside to pick the pilot up they transferred from the boat to the ship. So, they even had a trip in the speedboat and did not need to find their way to the next port.

Please do not be so rude. We want to encourage people to join in discussions not having to worry about using correct terminology
I think that it is his sense of humour but I am prepared to be corrected.

What an amazing review! Thank you for such a detailed review of your cruise, sounds fantastic.

Why not go on to the roll call for that trip and ask the question? You could be lucky and find your neighbours.
