  1. If your son can't use a regular cup or a straw I'd throw in another sippy or two just to be safe.. Today we were out for a doctors appointment and my 12.5 month old DS threw his sippy somewhere without us noticing. We didn't realize it until we were seated at TGIFridays and he started asking (loudly and repeatedly) for a drink. My DH had to leave and drive 3 blocks down to buy a new one at babies r us while I waited for our food. I added some spares to our bag for our cruise next week as soon as we got home since we definitely won't have the "buy another" option at sea!

  2. Leaving the ship it was only putting your sea pass through the reader -

no security until boarding the ship, with the usual X-ray of all your bags and walking through the metal detector.

Thanks! That's what I thought I remembered but I didn't want to tell her that and then have it be a mess when they wanted to search her bag and everything on the way off the ship. Coming back they can talk to her about it and get her ready, maybe even stand and watch, I just knew getting off the ship is usually a little more rushed because people have excursions to get to.

  3. When was the last time you heard/read of a child falling overboard from a balcony...It's the drunk adults :D

Actually I did read a story a few weeks ago about a child who fell over a railing on a RC ship. If I remember they were unattended and climbed onto a railing, falling onto a lower deck, though.

  4. Anyone who has been on the pride recently- do you remember what getting off in Florida for excursions was like? I'm trying to give someone a rundown of each port but can't remember if there were bag x-rays, drug dogs, or even any security at all when we got off in Florida. I remember them checking our bag through an x-ray and walking through a metal detector on the ship when we got back on but don't remember when we got off if the port did anything and she would like to be able to warn her autistic daughter ahead of time so she will know what to expect at each place.

  5. Please pardon me for being a bit nosy, but we have never heard of anyone that cannot go into salt water. Would appreciate knowing more about this and whether there are any conditions that preclude going into salt water.

Many people have a sensitivity to salt water. I, for one, can only tolerate it in short bursts because it burns my legs like they are on fire until I've rinsed it off.

  6. I would say 13 is old enough to be out alone for more than a short time. A 10 year old could go up to the buffet for a quick snack, provided they are coming right back to the room, or to the pool alone for a half hour but no more than that. By 16 I would feel safe letting them go to activities without checking in as regularly (still with a specific curfew), just as I would do at home with a child with a drivers license.. Just running around with no destination in mind? When they can afford to pay for their own trip.

  7. On our honeymoon we put up a small photo of ourselves and the "just married" magnet our bridal party had made for our car. We were right by an elevator and tons of people saw it, resulting in them recognizing us on the cruise and telling us congrats. This time we might put up a small photo of our family and a cut out or two. It is just fun for us and is no different than the holiday wreathes I put up on our front door at home. We don't go overboard through, and don't use anything that might damage the doors or be in anyone's way.

  8. We just left our bag on the beach in Nassau (nothing in it but about $20, our sign and sail cards, photocopies of our passports and our clothes) and took our camera in the water. This is the main reason we bought a life-proof camera. That being said- we put our bag pretty close to the water and were never more than 10 ft out and always paid attention to who was around. I feel like just being aware of your surroundings is one of the best preventative techniques!
