  1. Hey guys I want to thank you again for all of the suggestions. On her actual birthday I ended up giving her a "Murano glass inspired" keepsake box (the tangible item) and inside of it was an invitation to dine in Normandie along with a menu. (I think only I got the pun :D)

I wish I had taken a picture of it, it came out very nice. :)

I am still working on some onboard things(based on your suggestions) but she may be reading...;)

  2. Thank you very much for the suggestions!

I have been casually mentioning ideas to her to see how she reacts :) the cooking and special dining seem to have created the most interest!

When does one know if the chef's table is available?

I do want to be able to give her something she can hold in her hand however... so she can open an object :)

  3. Ah you are right... it is not in the Solstice Class .... so no alcoves...:(

The behind the scenes tour sounds interesting...

Are there other activities like that...? She loves travel and cooking...

    OT- I can't believe I misspelled tangible.....:)

  4. Hi ladies, I'm back in Caribbean cruise mode again! I always like reading about your finds and your adventures :D (even if I do not post frequently I am still reading along and sending silent well wishes when necessary :))

I am trying very hard to be good... ish... and not purchase anything for the next cruise.... but I always feel I want to get at least something... one thing... maybe... a ... little...tiny...thing :)

I was thinking about looking for a "fun" cocktail dress (I tend to dress very traditionally) so FUN for me may be not black or a solid color LOL...I actually thought maybe something structured, very tailored, out of a formal material but with a "beachy" pattern or a flower.... uh oh... I feel like I am moving so far outside my comfort zone... :)

I found these really great plumeria hair pins on a recent trip to Hawaii, and I actually found a pair of vintage floral earings that inspired this quest... (wait the earrings don't count as

    my purchase ... right? ;))

  5. So I am looking for a birthday gift ideas for my friend. We are going on a birthday cruise together, but her birthdate is before the cruise so was trying to think of something to get her that would be related to the trip...

Somethings I have done on previous occassions as gifts are: scarves, onboard credit, prepaid gratiuites, monogrammed luggage tags, shore excusions, cruise survival bag :)

I was wondering if you guys had any ideas....? It is Carribean cruise...port intensive. I thought about maybe getting her a dinner at a specialty restaurant? or a day in the thermal suite? I was also thinking about something tangable she can hold in her hand... but i don't know what :)? Is there something unique to Celebrity?

This was just early on... later in the day people became more festive :) with gowns, etc..

Can you guys imagine packing and traveling with all of the hats, furs, parasols on a seven day cruise?

  7. Art Deco “Cruise” packing list

So as much time as I spent on creating my wardrobe I wanted to share it with you guys.  Earlier this month I went on an Art Deco “cruise” on board the Queen Mary moored Long beach. So technically it wasn’t a moving ship, but it counts right?  But the great thing about it is that it was Art Deco themed so music events, lectures, deck parties, Teas, dinner, tastings, and tours all had an Art Deco theme and many, many, many of the participants dressed in that time period. Well, all I can say, modern day cruisers, as the queen of light packing… I cannot imagine living in the 1930s because I would need to have a staff to carry all of my stuff ;)

So here is my packing list and this was only for a weekend… I can’t imagine a crossing on the original Queen Mary or any journey longer than 3 days 

I need to say that my original plan and packing list was much more extensive (as I have been planning this for quite some time) but at the very last minute my plans changed and I needed to cancel … then at the absolutely very last possible moment (the night before) I realized I would be able to go, but only for two days not the full four day event. So I cheated a lot with the shoes and accessories. So this packing list below is for TWO days only, but full days (48 hrs +)!!!!! This list below is just the outwardly visible clothing this does not include, undergarments, hosiery, or sleepwear. Nor does it include toiletries or make up.

    DAY ONE

    TRAVEL CLOTHING:

White linen pants, black and white silk wrapped blouse

Accessories: matching jewelry, gloves,a small hat, small handbag, late 1930s style black shoes (these shoes were great, but they met with a small accident towards the end of the day so I had to wear another pair of shoes more than I would have liked to)

AFTERNOON DECK PARTY DANCE AND PICNIC:

    Green silk chiffon dress

Accessories: Jewelry, silk head scarf, sunglasses. Purse. vintage style shoes in a neutral shade (these were the shoes I had to wear the rest of the time as my others were damaged)

    EVENING:

    Cream Chiffon gown

Accessories: Jewels, long satin cream gloves, cream chiffon wrap, jeweled head piece the afore mentioned vintage style shoes, beaded purse

Um truth be told I fell asleep. I was so tired... I got dressed and said I would just close my eyes for a little bit, but I woke up and it was 2am and my make-up was somewhere between my face and pillow cover I brought (it was comforting to know even stationary ships prompt this behavior in me :D)

    DAY TWO:

    MORNING:

simple blue patterned cotton 1930s styled dress

    Accessories:

Belt, Bracelet, necklace, gloves (I went hatless, I know for shame) those same shoes…. :) handbag

    AFTERNOON TEA DANCE:

Tea length silk black and white polka dot chiffon dress, white bolero jacket

    Accessories:

Necklace, bracelet, gloves, small hat, purse

I also packed a dress for the EVENING PARTY AND DINNER

Twenties style mauve silk chiffon with sequins

    Accessories:

Jeweled head pieces, matching jewelry, black gloves, hand bag and twenties style shoes with black satin bows

    TRAVEL HOME CLOTHING:

Brown and white cotton dress with brown shrug

Accessories: Jewelry (no hat, gloves) small handbag

But my flight home was delayed and I was afraid I would miss my connecting flight. So, I left early to see if I could get an earlier flight. Which meant that I didn’t wear the last two outfits and ended up flying, hanging out in the airport and traveling in my “tea wear”  …for twelve hours :D that too was an interesting experience!

I don’t think I have EVER carried so many things for such a short trip, but it was a lot of fun and was worth it! But I don’t think I will complain about having to pack my modern clothing sans accessories for awhile :D

  8. A picture would be helpful... let me see if I can get one

I definitely could wear this outfit somewhere other than a cruise, but you know when you see something and it is yelling "CRUISE" Or "I am the perfect multi purpose travel outfit... you should buy me... or a lest try me on" :D?

Most things I take on a cruise I cooooould wear elsewhere, well....except for a few floral dresses I would not be seen in unless I was onboard Caribbean bound ship or headed to a "Caribbean Themed" party :D

It sounds really pretty! I wouldn't be concerned with it being black either. I wear black on my cruises. I love black!!

I love black too.... I have to force myself to wear something different in the evenings.....

When I did a winter Transatlantic crossing, my original packing list had ALL BLACK COCKTAIL DRESSES, my formals were colorful :) but the cocktail dresses were all black (I didn't even realize it at first until I started actually pulling the clothes). So I only allowed myself to carry two black dresses it was so difficult to choose :) .

Your new outfit sounds really awesome. I agree with other posters...black is great on any cruise! Wear it and enjoy!:D Just for the record...I too have a few things that are reserved for cruises only! Mostly things with an anchor motif on them...not unlike the new navy pareo with small gold anchors on it that I just recently purchased. :)

The anchor pareo sounds too cute... one of my friends had on a wonderful blouse today, white with little tiny navy blue anchors on it... and all I could think the whole time she was talking to me was "that would be sooooooo cute on a cruise, I wonder if she would let me borrow it" lol

I feel like sometimes I want to brighten my look a bit in warm tropical weather.... do you guys feel that way?

  9. It is not often that I get to travel from cold :)…. To warm by air. But when I do I generally wear:

A Pair of Black slacks with closed toed shoes and compression trouser socks (for healthy travel and those dirty airport floors :D)

A short sleeve blouse usually made from some sort of natural fiber

    A lightweight scarf….decorative and for warmth 

A Blazer, or button down sweater (usally the former) I get very cold on the plane.

If where I am flying from is bitterly cold or has a layover in a place that is snowing…. I will wear/carry an actual coat. If you have every been stuck or stranded somewhere freezing cold you did not expect to be … you may carry one too :D (The Flight attendants will usually hang your coat in the forward cabin so you do not need to deal with it on the plane)

    My other alternative is:

A short sleeve long knit dress in a solid colour with the same closed toed shoes and compression socks,

    A Decorative scarf

    A button down sweater

When I arrive at my warm destination, I remove the jacket/sweater, socks, and switch my shoes to some sort of strappy shoe that was hidden away in my carry on…. :D

  10. Okay…. Fellow cruise shoppers… I bought an outfit that has cruise after-five wear written all over it. I have been wanting to tell my friends all about it, but I think you ladies (and gents) may have the best appreciation... and my landlubber friends would just roll their eyes :D

It is a three piece outfit of 100% silk. The skirt is black satin pencil skirt that hits around the knee. The top is a black strapless crepe with a black satin trim. The jacket is long, with long sleeves in black satin with an abstract floral design in yellow, blue, and turquoise. The whole thing is amazing! The perfect outfit to mix and match pieces! Top with some other bottom, the skirt with a patterned top... the jacket... well the jacket... with something :) I was amazed that I found it… and that it fit… and that the sleeves were long enough. I just need to find the perfect cruise for it. The only problem is that is black… and I have oh so much black, so I think I will save it for a cooler weather cruise.

Unless you guys think I could wear it to the Caribbean or somewhere warm...? I try so hard to avoid wearing black on a warm weather cruise :(

But I just haaaaad to share :D

  11. I am sure you will receive responses that will fit more into your interests but, below is a bit of what I did.

I would first recommend getting the transit pass you can get a 1, 2, or 3 day . Two years ago the 3 day pass was around $35 dollars and it was good for unlimited transit the public buses and ferries.

I took the ferry to St George and walked to a few beaches including Tobacco bay, snorkeling is available there. I also visited the unfinished church and the historic square.

I also took the ferry to Hamilton and shopped and went to the night market. I generally wandered and had tea at the Fairmont.

I took the bus to Horseshoe Bay Beach… it was beautiful but very cold and full of jelly fish, or similar species (the time of year I was there.)

I also walked around the Naval Dockyard area and went to the museum and did a bit of shopping.

At all of these locations I was able to get a lot of beautiful photographs (although most of them I managed to delete once I returned home :( )

There are a lot of things to do and I’m am sure you will get better responses than this one :), but again I would definitely recommend getting the transit pass, especially if you plan on doing a lot of things on your own.

  12. I like your outfits they are very flattering to you and fun:) It is amazing how well planned pieces with a few choice accessories can change the whole feel of an outfit and make it look put together and complete.

I guess that is the purpose of all our cruise wardrobe planning :D

Hope to finish packing tonight...okay maybe start :)

Somehow my wardrobe for this next cruise turned into a pink theme... (I don't even really particularly care for pink so I don't know how that happened :) ) so I plan on fixing that ;)

  13. I think a lot may depend on the cruise line and to the location to which one is traveling.

But when I have traveled with males, whom are around that age, they have worn ; long sleeve button down shirts ( something with some interest not necessarily what one would wear with a suit to work), slacks or fitted khakis, and sometimes a blazer or sports coat (depending on the location and what I was wearing :))

Sometimes they add a pair of cuff links and cute shoes (however I don't think THEY would use the term cute :D...so .....nice shoes :) )

  14. Hello ladies I am back again...it has been a long time since I have posted. But I keep reading :) I am about to go on my first Caribbean Cruise in about 3 years :D. So I thought I would wave. I am getting out my floral and bright colors as I type :) creating my wardrobes and counting my shoes :)

  15. Hello all! I just got back from my holiday and again I wanted to thank all of you for your suggestions for Daywear. I thought I would give a quick little list of what I actually wore :)so it may help some other compulsive fashion planner like me :)

I brought a few more items than this to wear, but the seas were quite rough, the decks were closed frequently and I didn’t have an occasion to wear warmer accessories that I thought I would wear out on the deck.

    Embarkation

Wool blend Black and off white fitted Tulip skirt, black cotton with silk trim V-Neck blouse, red belt, boots. Coat and hat

    At Sea

Cashmere yellow pullover sweater, skinny dark jeans, silk scarf, black flats

Wool turquoise turtleneck sweater dress, tights, black flats

Cotton black short sleeve A-line sweater dress, black and metallic beaded belt, light wool scarf, tights, black flats

Cunard Robe and slippers I spent one day almost totally in my cabin :D (I did change briefly into Cotton black turtleneck skinny jeans to run up to the Kings Court to grab tea:))

Cotton black turtleneck, black fitted pencil pants, Lightweight, wool red and black wrap, red belt, black flats

Cotton red turtle neck, black skirt, black belt, tights, black flats.

    Debarkation:

Cotton black short sleeve fitted top, Black belt, Grey cotton button down sweater, skinny jeans, red neck scarf, boots. Coat and hat

I did laundry once during the journey. And when I mention “belt” above, it is of the decorative variety, on top of a blouse, not the utilitarian through belt loops of my pants.

I wore my black flats at sea onboard during the day, which was something I would not have expected had I not received the feedback from all of you.

Thank you all very much for your help! Bringing the minimum for daywear allowed me to have much more room for evening wear… which would be a whole other thread in and of itself!

  16. Thank you for the suggestions.

I did not want to bring or buy an insulated mug/container because I do not really have a way of washing it (nor do I reeeeeaaaaallly want to dishes on holiday :D)

I will make do without a lid, bring some of those lidded type cups with me, go to Sir Samuels or drink up with a big girl/grown up mug (although I am very very spill prone...:) )

I appreciate the information and observations!

    tmee

  17. I just have a small quick question for all of you knowledgeable QM2 veterans. Does the Kings Court offer disposable/recyclable cups with lids? For example if I wanted to grab a tea in the morning and walk around on deck without spilling :) Or does Sir Samuels have this option?

Thank you in advance for the information.

  18. Hmmm it depends on where I am embarking... and the weather... if like you i am staying in town prior to the cruise (I don't have to wear my airplane clothes) ...if it is Florida or on the Gulf Coast assuming that the weather is sunny... I wear a sundress (with a jacket in my onboard bag) if the weather is cool I wear a casual dress with sleeves and tights with my jacket on top :)

If I am on the west coast or in NE USA. I will wear a skirt and top (with or without tights depending on weather)

In Europe I will wear the same. However everytime I have left from there (the particular time of year) it has been cold and rainy. So on top I had scarf, gloves, hat, and coat. ;)

But the one thing I always make sure I am wearing is my smile :D It has fit every climate!

    tmee

  19. Thank you very much for you suggestions and information! I always have a problem with "casual" I never seem to know what it means... :) it is difficult to get me out of dresses and skirts :) but I will try for a pair of slacks. I like the idea of pairing with a cardigan for bit of added warmth outside and in. I forgot that inside will be temperate... ( I was not thinking;))

I am building my daytime wardrobe list as we speak :)

Somehow for evening I am not having the same difficulty lol...

I am so very excited to be on the QM2 Nothing like a list to get one thinking about ship vacation :D

    tmee

  20. Hello all,

So I have a wee question. I will be crossing on the QM2 this winter and I am a bit perplexed on what to wear in the daytime onboard. I have read what people wear in the summer and of course I viewed Cunard's website for "appropriate attire" but I thought maybe someone(s) could share with me what they have worn or viewed others to wear onboard in the winter. I should mention I am a female :)

Generally in cool months at home I wear boots and dresses and tights? Is that appropriate?

Thank you in advance for suggestions and opinions.
