  1. I have read in many, many posts about how terrible Celebrities gluten free pizza is. All places we get gluten free pizza use frozen dough to start with. Some have better toppings and cook the pizza better than others.

Doesn't Celebrity read any of these posts? Why do they continue buying this sub standard frozen dough?

  2. The thing is, "checking the menu" doesn't really always give you the real picture. We loved Blu in the several cruises we ate there. The menu descriptions are written by chefs or people who want to impress with all the flowery language. In reality what you're given is in many cases simpler.

Also, what people keep forgetting, is you can go in and ask for a baked potato or a big pile of mashed potatoes or some plain rice or pasta on the side. And a serving of green beans (not just a garnish) or a bowl of steamed broccoli for the table. They are SMALL so they can do more customizing.

Ask for some of the sauces on the side. We usually had trouble narrowing down our choices! Sometimes we asked for small plates or half size versions of three things between us so we could taste more. They had a risotto that was absolutely wonderful. The lamb shanks and other dishes are wonderful. People who have said "I don't like lamb" have eaten them and loved them (we sat with people who said that very thing).

I have looked at the Blu menu. I have to assume there is meat under the mountains of garnish.

  3. I'm sure there is a formula -- and I'm sure that Celebrity paid a lot of money for the development of the algorithm, just as the airlines and hotels have. Supply and demand, number of searches for a particular cruise indicating interest, number of B2B bookings, it has to be far more complicated than anything any particular passenger or travel agent can devise.

This October we are taking our first cruise. It's the repositioning one, on Summit, from NJ to San Juan. We booked the end of this May. The price today is half what we paid.

I just wonder, did this same thing happen last year? Will it happen again next year?

  4. What a thread :). When it comes to last minute bargains, one really needs to be flexible. There are plenty of times when a cruise sells well, and last minute prices increase or are not even available. And there are times when it goes the other way....and then there are the truly amazing bargains which are out there for those of us able to get away on short notice. So, for example, a poster mentioned the 10/15 Equinox which certainly does not offer any last minute bargains. On the other hand, the Nov 18 Equinox has excellent bargains on balconies (strange for a Thanksgiving cruise).

There has to be a formula to work out what the best time to book is.

  5. You can ask for one per card. Meaning, if you and your traveling companions all have the package, you can hand the bartender four cards and say, "Can I get four cans of Diet Coke."

The bars are everywhere. There is one in the Oceanview Cafe (buffet), a bar outside the Oceanview all the way to the stern, a bar in the Revelations Lounge on the top deck, a bar near the pool and you can also pick up drinks at the pool grill at the other end of the pool. You can get a soft drink in the Aqua Spa cafe in the solarium. You can get soft drinks at the Cafe al Bacio, in Cellar Masters, in the Rendez-Vous lounge, in the casino, and I'm sure I've missed a few. Oh, also in the main theater during the evening shows.

You can't swing a stick without hitting a spot where you can grab a can of soda.

OK, I'll just be a "bag man", stopping at two or three bars and getting two cans each. A bit tacky, but what alternatives do I have?

  6. OK, so the plan is to get cans of soda to take back to the room. I do this by going into a bar and asking the bartender for some cans?

How many can I ask for?

Where are all these bars? ( going to be on Summit)

  7. As I read the announcement, it looks like the increase is about 55 cents per day. On a 14 day cruise that means you will have to pay an additional $8 per person. Maybe I am in the minority but for the hardworking staff an extra 55 cents per day seems like a bargain. And why wouldn't they expect to get a raise every year. If you are still working, don't you expect it? Maybe, you don't get that yearly salary adjustment but you expect it none the less.

If I choose to continue to cruise, then I am prepared to pay the cruise fare as well as pay for any additional features that I may want.

If the cost of living does not go up, no one should expect a raise every year.

  8. IMHO an upgrade from Concierge to Aqua is great! The Concierge lunch (which was also extended to Elite+ on our cruise) was definitely forgettable. On the other hand, you'll get to eat in Blu for the entire trip, which is definitely a plus. Bon voyage!

Now that we can't go to the "first day" Concierge lunch, where can we go for lunch?

  9. How do the price reductions work?

We booked on May 31, 2016 for the six day repositioning cruise on the Summit. Leaving New Jersey on October 16th. The base price we paid was $799.

I see the price now is $599. This is our first cruise. Should we have waited?

Today the price is down to $479 !

  10. I called Celebrity. I guess I'm going to be the most expensive traveler on that boat, in the class we are in!

It's our first time cruise, So I'm new at this. Another learning experience, ( just what I need at 73 years old).

I booked on May 31st, for a October 16th cruise. I see this was a big mistake.

    Facts:

    - dealt directly with Celebrity, not an agent

    - it's a repositioning cruise, so no Cash On Board credits

    - It's after the pay in full date

    - I'm paying $200 per person more that I would pay today

I got a free upgrade from Concierge to Aqua something. I don't see a big difference. The first thing is we can't got to that lunch after boarding for Concierge class people.
