  1. We have the SDP promo for a 12 night cruise on the Gem in June. There are four of us on a single booking so I think only the first two get five meals each with the package. Without the package the pricing for the SDP varies with the quantity of meals purchased. So my question is if I want to increase the number of SDP meals can I upgrade from 5 to say 8 meals by paying the difference between the 5 day cost and the 8 day cost OR do I need to buy a separate 3 day SDP to add to each 5 day?

(I've just re-read this and it makes my head hurt! Hopefully someone will know what I'm on about? Apologies in advance if I've used the wrong terminology or missed something obvious)

  2. Hi

Yes I tried but I'm now getting the message that as the booking is so close to departure I can't proceed to book online and need to call the same number that I've been trying to book by telephone :(

I guess it's just not meant to be. It is strange that considering I'm prepared to more than double my original payment that I'm unable to. Maybe the earlier posts about lifeboat capacity are true and it's simply not possible.

Thanks again for all the help and advice

  3. Thanks everyone. All very sensible suggestions that make a lot of sense. I tried again today with both TA and NCL but same result. They are saying the NCL website is at fault and has not updated. The TA's website takes their feed from NCL therefore their's is incorrect too.

I've decided to be happy with my lot and just enjoy the cruise. Thank you all for your help :)

  4. Hi

I've been tracking prices for the last few weeks hoping to upgrade to something bigger or better than my original booking. The price of the cruise in all staterooms remains higher then when I booked so I expected to pay the difference to upgrade (or slightly more with administration fees). Availability looked good on both my TA website and NCL website with plenty of rooms available in the categories I'm interested in. So yesterday so I placed my call only to be told by both my TA and NCL that the sailing is full despite the fact both web sites show availability by cabin number.

Does anyone know if this is true and therefore the websites are wrong or is somebody else getting it wrong? (maybe me:confused:)

    Thanks

  5. Thanks nomad098. My curiosity on the mysteries of the upgrade fairy has resulted in a revelation which will fundamentally alter how I make my cruise bookings in the future. In truth the higher upgrade potential would be unlikely to feature in my decision making given the chances seem slim irrespective of home location. However, being able to choose between the merits of headline price, deposit amount and final payment date is invaluable as the relative merits alter dependent on the time of booking relative to departure.

I am wiser for your input and will add Wales to the list of useful contributors.

  6. Wow - Responses from Ireland, England, Germany, USA, Canada and Australia !

Thank you all SO much. I can't help but be impressed by the willingness of people to share their experience and thoughts to help others.

I never realised anyone could book through ncl.com directly (good to know for the future). Also good to know the upgrade fairy will travel (although we're still unsure how far).

Here's hoping all you nice people kind enough to respond will get 'the call' at some point :)

  7. Hi

I was wondering if upgrade calls are only offered to residents of the USA? I've not seen any posts from non US residents saying the upgrade fairy has been in touch. Don't get me wrong I don't begrudge anyone getting 'the call' and it makes sense as the majority of passengers and departure points are in the good old US of A. I am just curious . . . . . . . . . (and maybe just a wee bit jealous;))
