  1. This is one of the more convoluted and nonsensical explanations of resort fees I've every heard. It's also completely false. Resort fees exist for one reason and one reason only: They can have a lower room price when people search. There is absolutely no requirement that certain charges "be recorded separately". The operator may choose to do that for their bookkeeping purposes. But pretty much everything in this post is garbage.

First of all... there is zero need to attack a poster because you're grumpy and disagree.

Second... what experience do you have? I've actually worked in a 5 star hotel kitchen and can confirm that the poster youre replying to is correct depending on the laws where they live. Laws are different in terms of hotel pricing and some counties do force hotels to do it that way.

If you think staff gets paid from surcharge then you have a lot to find out.

  2. We are sailing on the Aug 19th Oasis of the Seas sailing. Every agent I spoke to on Wednesday and Thursday last week to book and pay for the cruise were fantastic.

As the cruise was a surprise for my Mom, I called to get her email added to the reservation after the reveal.

They ended up locking us both out.

I called back, they unlocked me but forgot to unlock her...

So another call but we also asked about booking a hotel for the night before in Orlando. He tells us theres one single room left at Park Place Inn. I pay for that but we never got our receipt. I call AGAIN and they resend confirmation...

But he booked it for post cruise. Another phone call and now there's nothing left and I bave to pay $200 CAD more for "the last room at all hotels" at Caribe Royal. Beautiful hotel but way, way more than we expected to be paying due to their mess up.

Do you think theres any chance they'll do anything if I politely explain the frustration?

  3. I'm happy for this lady and hope she is ok and everything works out for her. . But these rescues from cruise ships seem to be happening more and more. Should it really be on the American Taxpayers to foot these bills? The cruise lines take the passengers on the ships and when they get really sick use the USCG to take care of the problem.

USCG spent about 680 million dollars last year on rescues of all kind, over 5100 people great job but averages over $100,000 per person. It costs about $1,600 to fuel a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, patrol boat costs $1,147 hour to operate. The USCG C-130 turboprop planes, about $7,600 an hour for fuel alone.

Why should the American Taxpayers foot these bills the cruise lines are making millions in profits. In the last two weeks four of these rescues off cruise ships that I have heard about, so my guess several more. The Silver Muse, Holland America Veendam, and Anthem of the Seas 2 times April 29 and May 12. What is the issue with Anthem, two times in two weeks, and RCCL is rolling in profits?

Again not attacking the guest just questioning the way things are done that allow cruise lines to take and take and give back very little it seems.

    Yikes.

Shame on someone for falling critically ill. They totally planned for it just to go after your taxes.

  4. Hello all!

Surprised my Mom this morning with an Oasis Cruise Aug 19th.

I have a GTY neighbourhood balcony. I booked on Wednesday and paid in full Thursday.

Any guesses when we will see our stateroom number? It will help us decide on a soda package or not.
