  1. Hi Folks,

Heading out on a Spring Break 2017 cruise on Liberty and we have two aft cabins. 7408 and 7410.

Question: Does the divider between the balconies open like they do on the sides of the ship?

We are travelling with family and since the cabins aren't adjoining, we would like to open up the balconies.

    Thanks!

    Dave

We have 9406 next summer. Will be interested to hear how you like the cabins. :)

  2. I thought at one point I saw reference to a site where you can tell how many rooms are still available for a given cruise?? I don't think checking the RC website necessarily shows a complete picture. We seem to have picked a very unpopular cruise because prices have dropped quite low. The reason I don't think the website tells the full story is b/c when I called to inquire about moving to a JS, the agent said they had 28 open, yet only 16 are showing up on the website. I'm just curious how "light" our cruise will be. TIA

  3. Have never not had a comfortable mattress - is it that there is one postings then everyone gets on the "band wagon" - same as bringing your own pillow?

I don't think it's a bandwagon issue. Seems to have stemmed from RC replacing some mattresses which are very firm. Some people like them, some not so much. A friend who sailed on Liberty in October was sleeping on the couch by the end of the cruise. My husband and I don't sleep well on firm mattresses so we will be bringing the inflatable ones.

  4. The wife and I upgraded to a js on the Enchantment for are up coming cruise good decision With the prices dropped we talked our friends that is golng with us to pay an extre $80 to go from a inside deck 7 to a guarantee balcony. We have never done a guarantee before but My thought is that for $80 you get 40 more sq ft and a balcony. With the sailing being nov 28 it is not showing what balcony room are left is there any bad balconys on the Enchantment.this is our friends first cruise so hopefully we didn't steer them wrong

    Thank you

I don't know if there is a "bad" balcony on that ship - we are sailing her not long after you. However, I think your logic is solid - extra space plus a balcony. Don't see how that could be too bad. Enjoy your cruise!

  5. Ok I am sailing on majesty in May 2017

If only 1 of us buys the drink package , and gets the souvenir cup. Is there anything stopping one of us using it for say lunch one day and the other using it the next day.

Neither of us are that big of soda drinkers that we would need to drink soda every waking moment, we can endure tea or lemonade for a drink.

I've read where the cups have a chip in them, beyond that what. Would stop us?

If you drink that little soda, not sure the package is worth it for you.

  6. Congrats to your Nephew and you should be very proud

In time he will earn the respect of his fellow Marines:eek:

He be fine, Marines just have a tough way of showing it in the beginning:cool:

Once he gets his Crow it gets easier. He will understand what I'm saying.

Thanks! I get very little info, but from what I understand, they are already very protective of him. My brother is a retired Chief (20+ years on submarines), and he tells me my nephew promoted at a very impressive pace. I look forward to the day when he's out of harm's way, but I don't spend time dwelling on it or worrying about it because it won't change anything.

  7. What I would like to point out is, yes you can usually upgrade rooms based on availability even after final payment. But a call from the upsell fairy will usually yield a better deal than this, as they will be more motivated to fill rooms of a certain category and open up those of a lower category. (which are easier to fill because they are cheaper, these are the deals last second cruisers get).

I would welcome the upsell fairy to get a better deal to hop up to a nicer room than i can get on my own.

I was afraid to wait for the call - afraid they would call someone else instead. I've never gotten a call before, but have only been on four cruises.

  8. Relax? Lol this trip I literally ate, drank and slept. The shows weren't that great on this ship so I'd be interested if it was a better production. Where it sails to isn't as important to me for some reason lol

If all you want to do is eat, drink, and sleep, Rhapsody is fine for that. :D

Will have to let others speak to the productions on Oasis - I haven't sailed her. I think generally speaking, the bigger ships have better shows.

If it were me, I'd keep an eye out for good deals on both of them and give them each a try, unless budget or some other constraint prohibits this.

  9. I honestly just came back from my first cruise (majesty) today and don't really know much about any of the boats. I just saw those are the ones closest to my house(port wise)

Well, there's only one way to find out. ;)

Think about what you like to do on the ship and compare the features on the ships. May also depend on where they sail to. If you provide a little more info, people can give you better feedback.

  10. OK...we agree to disagree. Like many other topics, this got blown out of proportion. We have yet to find a single person who has cruised with us on any ship make the complaint about the mattresses. Not one single person, including friends who have cruised with us and plenty of people met on board where the topic of comfort in sleeping came up.

One previous poster said it best - one person's hard mattress is another person's perfect comfort mattress.

The reality is that you tend to hear from the small minority who may be vocal on almost any topic...and not the 99% who actually don't make the effort to post to say "everything was fine...just to tell everyone". The only posts of that nature are in reviews.

Not intending to be rude, but just because you have not experienced this does not mean there's not an issue, at least for some people. Personally, my husband and I both have issues with firm mattresses. We haven't slept particularly well on our last two cruises. The best sleep we had was on Freedom 5 years ago. Please don't try to discredit other peoples' experiences.

Having a head's up that there are new mattresses that fall into the "firm" category, along with suggestions for how to deal with it is extremely helpful. I'm not going to complain about it, but we have purchased the inflatable mattresses that others have used, hoping it helps us to not wake up with backaches, and aching hips. If we end up not needing them, we'll put them away for our cruise on Liberty. A friend of mine just got off that ship and she and her husband ended up trading nights sleeping on the couch.

  11. My guess is that it would probably be unrealistic to expect that a doctor would have special training in this area, although you might get lucky. I think I'd consider the likelihood of this happening, the same way you did with waking up in the middle of the night. I would try emailing the cruise line to see if you can get any info about the doctor assigned to the ship for your sailing.

As far as the middle of the night issues, one thought would be to introduce yourself to your neighbors and explain the situation. Bring a "peace offering" such as some cookies or a trinket - I think most people are very understanding. I would just make sure your child is not banging on the walls, that would be a bit much.

I would go for it, unless it puts your child at risk of needing medical care that could not be handled on the ship. Maybe consider discussing the idea with your pediatrician to get their thoughts and some useful tips.

    Have fun!

  12. Some people still feel shortchanged when offered a good deal just because it isn't free. I'm glad you got such an awesome room, and enjoy your cruise!

I think the problem is that people are reacting to partial information. Trust me, I always want a free upgrade! :D What most people don't know is what someone paid for a room they are trading up. So, someone who got a steal on their original cabin and paid to upgrade could really be spending less that someone who paid a premium for their original room and got upgraded "free." Most people don't take that in to consideration. So for me personally, I keep an eye on pricing and have an idea of what I'm willing to pay for a room.

  13. Is it always necessary to distinguish between an upgrade and upsell fairy? I don't understand why people on here feel the need to point this out.

The OP said she paid more so to "upgrade" to a better cabin. Obviously she wasn't trying to hide that fact.

An upgrade is a room better than you had before whether at a cost or not. In this case, the cost was probably less than a new booking.

Thank you! Sometimes paying just a few dollars more for something that would have cost you much more had you booked it earlier can be very exciting.

  14. I carry no debt and don't plan on starting anytime soon...if I don't have the cash for something I don't spend it.

Just food for thought - it can be helpful to have one credit card for situations such as this. You can actually pay the balance as soon as you incur the charge so you don't have a balance, but there are plenty of times having a card comes in quite handy. Definitely not trying to tell you how to run your finances, just passing along helpful information that has been shared with me. :)

Whatever you do, have a good time!

  15. Good to know, thank you! Sounds like you guys just lucked out! :)

Probably not so much luck as we picked an unpopular cruise. Many of the cruises around our date on Enchantment are going cheap. Not my favorite class of ship, but we wanted a short cruise and the dates worked for us. Plus we could get to Florida on air miles. Sure wish I lived close enough to take advantage of last-minute deals. Generally, the price you pay is going to depend on the popularity of the cruise.
