  1. The recent reviews are very concerning. The thing that concerns me the most is that if you are AI you have to pay for the coffee in the new lounge on Celebration! This really is one charge too far for me. I did bring up the issue of added charges during the Ellacott Q+A, but he didn't really address my concerns. I can fully understand extra charges for things such as speciality restaurants and the like, but coffee - this costs around 2 pence to make.

The latest in a long line of 'extras', which started with safes and ended up with paying to reserve seats in the theatre. Time for a change.

  2. Yes,my original post was that it seemed the call centre would be closing down. Cruise Deals as a brand is, I'm sure, here to stay. My concern is that instead of dealing with somebody who knew what they were talking about when you rang the call centre, in future if you rang the number you would be put through to a retail shop, and as is well documented the quality of the help and advice you would get is somewhat variable.

  3. Why should we believe you more than others who see more good than bad?

To be far, Ormy explained their issues with the ship in their post.

I've not been on the Majesty, and having read about the ship I doubt I would. Things that are important to me are documented as being unsatisfactory. These things may not be important to others however, who have praised the vessel.

  4. Remember in the Q+A when the often promised Thomson loyalty scheme turned out to be a monthly e-mail and possibly a bottle of wine in your cabin? That to me seemed as though there was going to be no proper loyalty scheme, but the Social Media team are still promising that it is coming -

Hi Jack, Thanks for your post. We're currently looking into implementing a loyalty scheme, so please be assured that this is something we've got in the pipeline. However, if you'd like us to stop calling you to offer you upgrades, please private message us your booking reference so we can take you off the call list. ^Christina

Do you think this is the case, or are they just having people on, knowing full well they are never going to launch one?

  5.

Not having booked this way before I am a bit worried about expensive phone calls if I want information as my TA is telling me they cannot get into my booking if I book on line or by phone.

    Don't panic! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/consumertips/household-bills/10514587/Premium-rate-phone-lines-ban-for-retailers-and-travel-operators.html

Although that probably won't stop Thomson, they're still charging 2.5% for credit cards!

  6. Hello,

This is an interesting point Gareth. I do think this is a co-incidence.

I actually think the driver behind this was the merger with Island Cruises. Since we merged with Island Cruises we've seen a lot more of their passengers trying Thomson Cruises and vice versa. But we've always been at the more informal end of classic cruising, and we try not to be too prescriptive about what people are wearing. Ultimately I don't think a guests' clothes impact on the standard of the cruise. And those that do want to dress up will always find room for their evening wear in their luggage. I manage with hand luggage.

    Cheers,

    Yep ok Fraser

    Stevie

Perhaps as he is MD, Fraser gets first refusal once on board of the Emergency Clothes Bank.

  7. The Q&A seemed to end very suddenly, with a cryptic message as well. Lots of questions unanswered, not helped of course by the idiot that decided to merge a load of unrelated questions, hence some may have been missed. Didn't Fraser come back the next night last year to answer those questions he didn't answer on the first night though? It seems pointless to have people asking questions if he isn't going to answer them.

The cynics may say that some of the questions that weren't answered were the ones that were asked late on yesterday, thus meaning that Fraser's minions hadn't time to prepare an answer for him to cut and paste.

  8. Hi my hubby has booked our 1st time cruise with thomson celebration for 3rd jan for my 40th birthday. He paid an extra 398.00 for drinks package and was told it is really worth while as it saves a fortune. Ive read posts that show most drinks carry a supplement, I only drink budweiser and was wondering is the true. Total cost for us for the week in a 1/2 cabin was 1650 which i thought was very expensive. All feedback welcome.

This will give you an idea - http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1748329

Should be reasonably up to date. Anything with an asterix is the supplement you pay if you have bought the drinks package, so you will be paying £2 for every bottle of Bud.

  9. Hi my partner , 15 year old son and I have have just booked for Moorish Delights Aug 14 , we have cruised just once before on NCl Gem which we loved. Please can someone give me an honest review of the Dream as I've read mixed ones!

    Many thanks :)

All ships get mixed reviews - there are plenty of poor reviews for the NCL Gem as well. However as with the Gem, the Dream has far, far more 4 and 5 star reviews than 1 and 2 star reviews..

The Dream is a nice ship, hard to fault really. The major criticism I have is the bars are all on one level, with some becoming alleyways. The lido is a bit crowded, however as the dream has 2 self serve restaurants during the day this is easily avoided. Great theatre and a smooth sail.

Not my favourite Thomson ship, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back on again.
