1. I sailed in 9504 back in 2012. I honestly didn't mind the decor. I considered it to be whimsical. And I like the color purple anyway!

I loved having 2 balconies. We would go out on the front balcony as we were pulling into ports and used the side balcony several times a day. In davt my husband was able to see my daughter and I on our frint balcony while coming into Port Canaveral on the port cam.

Having a separate living room and bedroom was nice as my daughter was in bed with a migraine several times. Two bathrooms was a plus too!.

Owners suite comes with 3 bottles of liquor, and unlimited sodas and bottled water.

I'd keep the OS and enjoy it.

  2. I understand what you are saying. My husband and I did an 11 day cruise in 2014 and had purchased the dining plan that covered each night of our cruise. We never made reservations before we got on the ship because I have no idea when I'm going to be hungry. Only twice while on the ship did we use the concierge to make reservations. That was on the Gem.

The next year we did another cruise but this time on the Spirit. We were in a suite and once again never pre-booked dining. But there were a couple of nights that the Concierge couldn't even get us in. Even she was surprised that by 9am Cagney's was totally booked for the day.

In my opinion I think that since the constant promos being offered, so many people choose the specialty dining as one of their choices which makes them harder to get into.

I truly hate pre-planning my meals while on vacation. I have to do it Monday through Friday at home.

  3. Yes you have to be dressed to go to dinner. PLEASE!

NCL is not the White Star Line where 4th class passengers have to wear tuxes to dinner.

Best to change into something else after wrestling with the bears; fished for Salmon and taking a shower in a Glacier as it calves off.

Bring out the lumber jack plaid; fancy forever in blue jeans; shoes and dine in personal smart cruise casual comfort.

Generally the Aft MDR; Le Bistro and Cagney's are the restaurants in the smart casual concept.

Alaska is a whole different market than sailing in the warm Caribbean seas nor the Long Beach/San Pedro Hollywood Red Carpet fashion exposition !

I could be wrong but I think the remark about "please dress for dinner" means "don't show up naked". At least that's how I interpreted their remark.

  4. When I told my mom that my daughter and I were going on a cruise iut of NYC, her concern was about Somali pirates. I reassured her that they weren't going to be in the Port Canaveral and Bahamas area. The Concordia accident was a few months before our first cruise. My dad asked me if I still wanted to go. I told him "for years I had wanted to go on a cruise, so yes I was going".

My husband took years to convince. He was one of those that was afraid he'd be bored and would also tell me that had he wanted to go in a ship then he would have joined the Navy instead of the Air Force. We're going on our third cruise in the course of 4 years, so guess he changed his mind!

  5. My husband has a serious sweet tooth and so the butler kept a plate of cookies in our suite at all times. Once he found out which kind my husband liked the best, then he brought those the most. We also love iced tea so the butler made sure we always had some in our fridge.

  6. Hi y'all!

I'm currently 3 points short of gold so will 'technically' earn it a day or two into our Nov cruise. (We're in the Haven, so double points.. bla bla bla :D) Am I correct to assume that I won't get any perks/recognition of the status change until my next trip? That laundry service discount would sure be nice.

Has anyone ever received any benefit mid-trip? My bronze-to-silver was SO long ago, I can't remember that far back.

    Here's to wishful thinking!

Would be nice. I'm going into my next cruise 1 point short of Platinum.

  7. Thank you Glassgirl!!

Looking forward to a few day of R&R

ooops-one more thing for those of you reading. Where is the concierge located during the day? I've read on another thread she was not available much in person. Does she not have a desk somewhere to take care of dinner reservations or other things? I do everything last minute and generally decided day by day on Breakaway but the Haven is set up differently on Pearl.

When we were on the Pearl a couple of years ago the concierge had her desk in Moderno, which is where breakfast and lunch was for the suites

  8. I've never been on the Breakaway but have cruised the Gem. I'm another that doesn't need bells and whistles on my vacation. Loved the Gem. Really liked the size of it and never felt crowded. Numerous times my daughter and I were the only people in the elevator or in the hallway.

I know you said you were looking at the Studios but I think people have said that sometimes they could go solo in an inside for cheaper than a studio.
