  1. I just want a few opinions about how something will be perceived. I know what the official suggested attire is, but I want to know if this is acceptable in most folks opinion.

I am planning on wearing a nice pair of slacks with dress shoes and a button down "Hawaiian" style shirt, that is not tucked in. do you think anyone will take issue with an untucked shirt. I just think they look odd when they are tucked in.

Also, I assume that the idea of "Hawaiian" shirts is not frowned upon (they are not too loud).

    Thanks, for your assistance.

  2. There are many cases where an individual would like to order a few drinks at a time. Maybe they like have a beer back with their bloody Mary, or like to drink boilermakers. It's possible that they would want a sipping port along with a glass of wine or in the OP case perhaps they want to have one at the bar and then take one for the road. Or maybe just maybe they want to bring a couple to the room so that they can save a trip.

  3. 2/28 Jewel sailing has changed from Tortola to St. Thomas. We were notified on 2/13, just over 2 weeks prior to sailing. I'm actually more disappointed in the fact that when I called RCI to see if my excursion to Jost van Dyke was still happening (because it was still listed), I received no help at all. I was told that she was going to cancel my excursion because we were to be in St. Thomas and not Tortola. But she could not tell me if there was another tour from St. Thomas to JVD. Oh well, like someone else said its off to Coki Beach.

  4. So, I know all of the rules about the drink package, but what I am still unclear about is what whiskeys am I eligible for (ie less than $10). I assume that Johnnie Walker Blue is well more than the $10 limit, but what about things like Knobb Creek otr Basil Hayden. Does anyone know the cost and therefore the inclusion into the drink package. FYI I am talking about ordering them neat. (not as a mixer).

    Cheers

  5. Oasis and Allure do the comedy shows in a smaller venue, not the main theater, and require reservations. On all other ships you just show up and get a seat.

Thanks ahecht. I thought I missed something as the comedy shows are one of the things we love about cruising. Cheers

  6. I use a CPac also while I bring a white zip cord type cord with me I also always get them to bring an extension if I need one.

New ships have started to place 110v plugs behind the beds because of all the medical aids people now use. Also the lamps are not 110v but if you have a power converter that works too.

As for the comment about USB not being allowed to plug into the ship

That's pretty stupid and doubt If that true

If you area CPAP user, you can request an extension cord and distilled water free of charge from the website.

  7. Really .... ? Heckling? I hope this behavior isn't typical of Carnival guests ... if so, we should christen Carnival with a new nickname ... rather than 'The Everyday Man's Cruise Line' ... maybe we should re-name it 'The Pubescent People's Cruise Line"?

Don't be late and you won't be heckled.

Now there is a big difference between the pier runners who have balloon hats, boas and plastic neon yard glasses and the couple who had the broken leg.

That being said, one of the great joys of cruising is watching people run, stumble and make fools of themselves, because they can't tell time.

  8. I am just off of the Legend and did the cheers program. Bottom line "LOVED IT".

While I am a big drinker, my wife is not, yet she found that even she drank more under the program than she would have.

Some quick answers to confusing aspects of the program.

    1. The do tell you that the program is good for up to 15 drinks. If you are too drunk after 7, you will be cut off. If you manage to get 15 in, you will be charged regular price for drinks.

    2. Most bottles were served open and all cans served closed. If yo wanted closed bottles, they would as well.

    3. I was able to go to the bar and order for both my wife and I many times. Both do not need to be there.

    4. I was even able to order a single drink on my wives card, no issue.

    5. We never noticed a lack of service by the bartenders, actually, they got to know us pretty well, since we were usually around a bar while on ship.

I would say, that the cheers program was one of the best aspects of the cruise we just went on. we drank more than we ever had before on Carnival, but not to excess.

Oh and to anyone who feels that 15 is not enough, just buy Makers Mark Manhattans. Each drink is 3, 1oz shots of the 94 proof bourbon. That works out to over 1.5 bottles of booze. Good luck with that.

  9. There is 1 question that has yet to be answered for me...

    Can you get unopened beers?

I know i have to wait the 5 minutes, but could I assemble my own bucket in 15 minutes with them being unopened?

Thanks for pulling this all together. While I am sure we are going to participate, it still seems like there are a bunch of variables that are unclear.

  10. Folsom - thank for your observations. How about the cover band? Was there one, where did they play, what kind of music and did you like them?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure if I hear a "cover band".

    But...

Music that I did listen to:

    1. Great steel drum band that played on the Lido deck almost everyday.

    2. The duet, with a female singer and a male keyboard player were fun to listen to. They are from SE Asia and had an accent, but were generally good and played nice standards. Usually in the Lobby or Swingtime (Smokers) lounge.

    3. The guy in the cowboy hat, that i mentioned above was probably our favorite. Usually near the casino or in the lobby.

    4. House band was very good at all of the shows we saw.

  11. Just an interesting side note...

So we are catching up on our TV shows that we DVR'ed while we were on the Freedom. When I got to Samantha Browns's Great Weekends, which is a show we like to catch from time to time. And guess what was recorded while we were away? She was on the Freedom and had the same ports of call that we did.

We had a blast watching and talking about the cruise we just got off of.

Anyway, just thought I would mention it.

  12. I leave on the Freedom sat, 3/10, my second time on her. I think she is a great ship. I was so looking forward to the Piano Bar, doesn't sound too promising!!!

Last year on the Freedom, we were on Eastern time the whole time. This weekend we go to Daylight Savings Time, and I was told that the ships will advance 1 hour.

Do not understand your post re: Eastern time and ship time. We were told last year to keep on ships time.

    Can't wait for saturday.

FYI, there was a guitar player that moved all over the ship. Not sure of his name, but he wore a cowboy hat and he was very good. Played a lot of Johnny Cash and other music from 60's and 70's. we stopped a few times to watch him play.

    Enjoy you cruise.

  13. There's no bar in the piano bar so hopefully the cocktail servers don't get blamed for the poor drink sales in there ! ;)

I was there one of the nights and someone wanted to hear 'great balls of fire' and he said no.. but then played it a few chords and made the 5 people in the audience sing it!

Then he went back to something dreary, slow, and tiring..

Good point on the bar, but I assume (I know, I know) that they can tell what tables or chairs the drink orders are coming from.

BTW, I am glad to hear it was not just us that did not get this guy. We looked at the fun Times every night hoping he would get off of the ship like the comedians do. No luck.

Also, I think I heard him say it was his first time, so maybe he can be coached.
