  1. For anyone who has toured any or all of the 3 Mayan ruins sites offered by Carnival....which do you recommend and why?

I have researched all of them, and understand that Altun Ha is the smallest, but closest. Lamanai is the most "jungle like", and X has the tallest, most intricate temple. I'm leaning towards L or X. Also, even though the "You Tube" videos I have seen do not show this, I have read that the main temple at Lamanai now has access on the back side with stairs and hand rails. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for any and all opinions!

  2. I realize this is a very subjective question that I am about to ask. For folks who have seen any/all of the following Mayan Ruins sites, which one would you recommend, if you could visit only one: In Belize: Xunantunich or Altun Ha. In Costa Maya: Chacchoban or Kohunlich. Finally, if you could only pick one of the four, which do you recommend? Thanks!

  3. Is there a "sports bar" on the Carnival Magic? Unless I'm missing something, I can't locate one on the deck plans. On deck 4, there is a bar listed called the "Escape Bar". From the one photo found in the Gallery, it doesn't appear to be a sports bar.

Can someone who has cruised on the Magic recently answer this question? Thanks!

  4. Thanks everyone for the useful information.

Not that it should matter, but I/we are going out of Seattle because Southwest Airlines airfare is far cheaper than anything else from my part of the country (not because of felony convictions). I do have a passport, along with all the rest of my party.

  5. Thanks for the information, everyone.

No one directly addressed the "starboard vs. port" side question. Does it matter which one? I realize the "aft" balcony would be ideal, but not sure of availability, especially for 3 cabins.

Any thoughts on "starboard vs. port", so far as best for "balcony views"?

  6. Considering an Alaska Cruise on the Legend in 2017. Needs to be round trip from Seattle. I need some advice / opinions from cruisers with Alaska experiences.

    1. Port or Starboard side of the ship. Which will offer the best views from a balcony?

    2. Tracy Arm Fjord vs. Glacier Bay. I've been told Glacier Bay is not to be missed. Most cruises from Seattle go to Tracy Arm Fjord and not Glacier Bay. Opinions?

    3. The only Glacier Bay cruises are in May. The other 5 people I'm traveling with want to go in July for the warmers temps. July vs. May weather???

    4. Any other "can't miss" advise?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

  7. We sailed on the Sunshine April 8 - 16 , 8 days to Aruba, Curacao and Grand Turk. Of our 13 cruises, this was our favorite.

This ship has the most "un-Carnival" like décor of any Carnival Ship we've sailed on. Very subdued colors. Outstanding outdoor spaces (Water park, Ropes Course, Sports Square, Serenity Decks, etc. Food was the best we've had since the 2000-2005 time period. Musical entertainment was great (Mix of Six Band (six member band) and other solo performers). Great food options for free (Havana Bar food, Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana Burritos and Tacos, El Capitano for lunch, Mongolian Wok, Seas Day Brunches in Sunset Dining room). Outstanding service by all staff. Great gym facility. Outstanding movies at night on deck (Star Wars, The Revenant, etc.)

Now....to be clear.....DW and I do not lay out by the pool all day on sea days, nor do we require being in the prime serenity deck seats on sea days. If this is critical for your enjoyment, be aware these these two areas will be extremely packed during the 8:00 am - 4:00 pm time frame on sea days. However, there are always deck chairs available on other parts of deck 10, deck 3 etc.

We had "Your time dining" and arrived to the dining area usually from 8:00 - 8:45 pm. We never had to wait for a table and most nights finished dining in one hour to one and one half hour. We do not rush through our dinner. If we had, we could have been finished in an hour or less every night. To be fair, I did hear from others who dined "Your time dining" at 6:00 - 7:00 pm that service was a bit slower.

The ports of call were all amazing. The weather was wonderful and the sea calm as I have ever seen until the last night of the cruise between 1:00 am and 8:00 am., due to strong/severe thunderstorms off the Florida coast.

As for our demographics, I am 60 years old and DW is 58. We both love to explore the ports of call, love dining, dancing and meeting people on the ship. We truly find Carnival to be the "Fun Ships" as advertised. My wife doesn't drink any alcohol, I have only a few drinks all cruise long.

    I hope this is helpful.

  8. My wife and I will be Platinum for the first time on our upcoming April 8 Sunshine cruise. We have never used the ships laundry services before. I have a few questions:

    1. Is there a certain way that one needs to indicate you are platinum and qualify for the "free" service?

    2. How long does it take to get your laundry back?

    3. I am a little concerned with using the service for "better" quality items. Do they wash everything on hot? Do they separate colors?

Any thoughts, advice, tips are appreciated!:)

  9. DW, myself, and 2 other couples will be on the Dream, 10 days from San Juan to NOLA. I wanted to do the B2B (Jan. 3, NOLA to San Juan, 11 day journey; plus the Jan. 14 return trip). However since I am the oldest and only retiree in the group, I was outvoted. Oh well.....maybe next time. :)

This is the 11th Carnival Cruise for DW and myself (plus 2 NCL cruises).

We be "Platinum" on this cruise at 75 days sailed with Carnival.
