  1. Haven’t been on NCL in a while. It’s great that they are so innovative. First introduce premium restaurants. Then introduce dining plans. Now introduce premiums to the dining plan. I know the first two aren’t unique to ncl but I’ve not seen the third yet. Used to be nice when you could get really good food included in the price of the cruise.

  2. Then your peeve is with the cruise line, not your fellow passengers. The cruise line certainly should be policing the hallways frequently enough to prevent this. (And if you do leave the tray in the room you are just creating more work for your steward.)

Yep, I think I acknowledged the cruise lines or hotels responsibility but I guess it wasn’t clear enough for some. If I’m making more work for the steward I’m sorry but I WILL NOT leave my garbage on the floor.

  3. This is a pet peeve of mine as well. People put trays in the hall because that is what they are told to do. What drives me crazy is why they sit for many hours! I’ve seen this on cruises and in many upscale hotels. Can’t understand it. To me it is ugly bordering on disgusting and why I rarely order room service. If I do I leave the tray in the room.

  4. Thank you! I will also check out Serenade. I know we’re oddballs by not liking the newer mega ships, but my daughter literally told me today she’d rather go back on Rhapsody than on another Oasis class ship. :o

Another “oddball” here. We enjoyed the Allure but it felt most of the time like a crowded mall. Liked the Explorer better and our upcoming cruise is on the Serenade.

  5. .......Looking forward to ultimate dining pkg on SOS :) /QUOTE]

Unfortunately that is what they were hoping for. In that the main reason DW and I cruise RCCL instead of other lines is we liked the traditional dining and the food in the mdr if what I’m hearing is true we’ll probably end up trying a different line for our next cruise.

  6. Thank you molly 361 and again Bob. The menu really clinches it no? Funny how RCI makes no mention (at least where I could find it).

One other room service related question. I also found another reference:

"An 18% gratuity is additional and will automatically be added to your check"
What do they base the 18% on? The $7.95 service charge? If so then I guess the service charge is really $9.38.
  7. Thanks Pia, Bob,

Good to know. I also spoke with a person from Royal Caribbean and she said that "complimentary" or "promotional" on board credit is use it or loose it but "purchased" credit is refundable.

If that is the RC Visa card, then that credit will result in the lost of double points.
Not sure what that means or why, but the card securing our cruise account is different.

    Thanks again,

    Dave

  8. I see no issue with this and I also wouldn’t as RCL. Such customers are coupon-clippers and businesses that want to maximise profits usually need to have an offering for such customers that does not detract takings from full-service customers. Staff will have been trained to only pull-up customers with alcohol in their luggage in original bottles; these are customers from which a few more dollars can be easily squeezed. The coupon-clippers are not going to spend more and in too many cases won’t come again if denied the ability to pay the lower overall fare that they seek.

This is just price optimisation at play.

Interesting point mr duck. In that my wife and I no longer drink I was thinking how reading this thread was a total waste of time (a car wreck, couldn’t look away) but I think you have the right of it. Kind of like Apple charging $100 more for $5 more memory. People that don’t worry about $100 will get the extra memory and those that can’t afford the extra money will opt for the cheaper option. When we did drink there was no way we would drop $400/ pp or $10-12/ drink. Good chance we’d have opted for a different vacation option if we couldn’t have smuggled in our supplies. RC probably just finds enough to keep the smuggling from being so easy that even the people that could afford to pay their crazy prices from doing so. One data point that backs up your hypothesis is that they will often return your rum runner to you if they do find it. Never tried one ourselves. We used to just throw a couple of five liter bags of wine in our checked bags and call it good. Never a problem.

  9. I can't understand why people seem to think it unreasonable for someone to be upset when after contracting with a company for a cruise the line sells your vacation out from under you. "Oh, just book another fruits". As the OP said, the price has now gone up. The better afternoons are not available. Lots of reservations need to be changed. Hours of p!and are now worthless. Would i let it ruin my life? Or course not. It would also be a L O N G time before I did biz with the company that treated me that way.

I have had airlines candle flights but the difference is that they have bent over backwards to get me on a flight that works for me, even when they had to book me on another airline and always at the same price.

  10. I´m guessing the last one is Aarhus, if that is the case you have these things to look forward to.

Ah, butchered another one did I? Would be strange if I didn't as I'm at least as bad spelling familiar place names and English. Thank you once again Danish Viking for the information.
