  1. Normally I wouldn't care as I like to let loose on vacation, however I just started a new diet (ketogenic) which I plan to stick to while cruising and I've had great success so far. I don't want to reverse all my hard work and re-lose the pounds I just lost after the cruise, so I was wondering if there was a scale on board so I can monitor my weight and make sure I'm not overdoing it! Is there one in the gym?

Thank Goodness some finally ask the question I have wanted to know.

I found a scale in the Gym on a Holland cruise

  2. First off, I am not a light weight. I weigh about 260, mostly muscle, and back in college I had a good tolerance for alcohol.

Second, I am getting the package because my brother and I are sharing a room and he wants it.

    Third, Adventure of the Seas.

Fourth, I like the flavor of alcohol but I am not much of a partier so I rarely get more then beer.

Basically, what cocktails or liquers should I try? I know this is something of a random question but I am curious if anyone has suggestions.

I am thinking I will get whiskey and bourbon and try them both side by side. Ditto with types of rum and tequila. Thinking about trying some of the classic like a long island iced tea, mudslide, whiskey sour, ect. I like most of the sweet tropical cocktails (mojitos, ect.) and I am very willing to experiment.

well I don't drink much either so the UBP is a waste for me. but my roommate is a fish.

    1. calories are high in most drinks

    2. don't much like to taste

My plan is try a few drinks but only a sip or two, I like soda which is not include or water. maybe ice tea

  3. Fully planning to enjoy our Panama trip, but don’t want to pay tooooo high a price in weight gain. Wondering about ideas for menu selecting. Will up the activity, but mainly want ideas on food. I remember awhile ago you could order a side dish of steamed veggies to the table to eat instead of the sauced ones often served. Can you still do this!? How about asking for no extra sauces, and can you get a big green salad even if it is not on the menu instead of the offered appies and soups etc. Don’t want to burden our waitstaff, it do ant to eat as carefully as I can. Know it would be better in Lido, but like the MDR ambiance for dinner. Thanks to any who help me out.

  7. I know I'm not the only person who needs to lose because I really enjoy eating. ;)

The only system that has ever worked for me is simply drastically cutting calories. (I even went to some visits to get ready for bariatric surgery, but the doctor insisted on clearance from the out-of-date nutritionist who required I basically live on plain steamed chicken and water. If I could live on that, I wouldn't need the surgery.) Diet food is too often BORING, and my attempts at dieting are make harder because I'm in stage 3 kidney failure, so can't just add flavor by throwing on salt.

One tip that has helped me is butter (NOT margarine, I've avoided trans fats for 30+ years). I'll eat something fairly small for a meal, like a sandwich or a fried egg on a mini naan, but I'm usually still hungry. A handful of vegetables sauteed in a tablespoon of butter is pretty much 100 calories (90 mg sodium) and keeps me full for hours. (150 calories if I include corn as part of the veggies.) I've used frozen mixed veggies as well as fresh mushrooms or cauliflower; the butter adds enough flavor that I don't feel I'm eating cardboard. (Of course it would be better if I could eat the veggies plain. But my choices are eat plain veggies and still crave something with flavor, or add the 100 calories of butter and not cheat later.)

    Down 4 lb so far!

I admire that you want to lose weight, I am over one year to diet with my latest attempt to lose weight. Facing a cruise and terrified I will gain massive weight on my two week cruise. This is my plan and I will be walking and climbing stairs. also note that most wines and cocktails are in the 500 cal range. and dessert are out of sight and therefore avoided

I have lost from 277 down to 160 over the last 20 yrs. I am never going back. this plan is through "Sparkspeople.com" they can help you plan your meals to lose the weight and keep it off. below planning is based on room service, Cagney and Sheenan on Norwegian.

I wish you great lose and good luck

  8. Question???

I have bought OBC with Norwegian Credit card points. also thinking of buying OBC with cash from other cards.

I have paid for my excursion and spa pass pre trip. I doubt I will spend all my OBC during the trip.

is OBC bought with points refundable or non refundable?

if you buy OBC with a cash from a credit card, is this refundable or non refundable?

  9. I am sorry you are in this position, your heart was in the right place to invite them along.

but now it is sink or swim time. they are adults and you can only hope they will have a good time.

1 check early that they have the proper dos. which include pass ports and boarding passes. Name on the pass port, boarding docs and air line must agree with your ID It takes a while to get a passport so start early.

    2. Help them understand the rule about suit case size and weight as well as prohibited items. you don't want any surprises at the airport.

    3. advise them the difference in packing checked luggage verses carry on and personal items an 3-1-1 rules.

    4. Advise them to Always keep their meds, valuables and money as well as docs and passport with them in carry on -plus a change of cloths.

5 once you have managed to get them safely there and on board hopefully they will start fending for them selves.

    6. advise them that sail away time and "be back on board" are two different concepts. when they say be back on board at xx time they mean it. they will not hold the ship if you are late returning to the ship.

    7. I am the worst mother hen and I want everyone to have a good time however you need to draw the line somewhere and let the chips fall where they may, hope your trip is a joy and your time together is Blessed

  10. We are here for 1 1/2 days, so we rented a car for the first day, and will be walking around near where we tender in at Nawiliwili the next day. Any suggestions as to what we should drive to visit on the first day? Also, anything interesting nearby within walking distance the second day?

We tubbed the ditch, it was a hoot

  12. Can anyone tell me what this cruise might be like in Feb? We have cruise twice before - but only in October and November. Both were gorgeous. But I cannot for the life of me, remember the actual temperatures of these days?

I am coming from an Australian summer - which at that time of year, would be insanely hot! But I am looking for the warm humid tropical climate that October and November offered me. Could I still expect that?

    Thanks :)

I cruised with Holland in Jan of 2012, weather was gorgious :D

  14. What did you love about the ship itself? In what ways do you think she is better than other ships you have sailed on?

My DH and DD and I are all hearing impaired. We noticed that room 10520 is marked as hearing impaired.

What does that mean? Any one had that room recently and would like to share what it is like. Thanks

  15. Wow, T&Dcruisers, did you ever dream your original post would still be going strong and so popular after almost 6 years!? As a first-timers, I feel so much more prepared...mentally and physically...for our September cruise after reading all previous 2006 postings. Thank you everyone for your input! I'll be back in October with my favorite used and un-used tips.

    Wendy

This is the best and most helpful posting on the whole site

Keep it going. Cause I am still learning

  16. Hello - We are looking into this cruise for the fall and I have only been on one cruise (10 yrs ago) and my husband has never been on a cruise. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!!

    - The flight I am looking at arrives in Honolulu at 2:35pm on Saturday. Is this enough time to get to the ship and get on board before the 7pm departure??

I am really nervous about this but the flights arriving on Friday are twice as much!! We can't afford to do the friday flight so I am not sure what to do here.

Love the tips on which cabins to book - thats a HUGE help!!

    THANKS!!

I strongly. Strongly advise you not to fly in on Sat that is just too stressful.

    Check on the Thurs. flights.

Take two days to get on Alaho time. There are hotels for around $150 a night. Unless you want to be right on the beach.

Have a nice trip, Hawaii is very expensive so pack a suitcase with money ;)

  17. Hello, everyone! Happy New Year!

So, we'll be on the POA at the end of May and I'm researching flights for my parents. There's a flight that LEAVES HNL at 8:30am. Which means you've got to get to the airport at 7:30 am, etc. There's only one flight to their hometown (nonstop) that day.

Since the POA doesn't have to deal with customs clearing the ship, what's the EARLIEST you can leave?

    Is there any way?

    Thanks for your help!

We also had this problem in Fort Lauderdale, our plane home left at 7:30 am.

There was just no was to do it on disembarkment day.

We stayed over tell the next day and left bright and early one day post cruise.

It cost us a night in a hotel but heck you could think of worse places than to spend one more day in paradise.

    :D:D

  18. Hi can anybody recommend a decent hotel just one nite within walking distance perhaps of a store to buy some wine, sodas and maybe some rum? prior to boarding. Would be nice to have transportation for Airport (Frt L.) and terminal as well...thanks so much

We booked Hamptom Inn at the Airport for about $145 a night includes breakfast and airport shuttle. How every I think there is a small fee for cruise port transport.

It is a across the street from Southland Shopping center.

McDonalds, Wendy's, Subway plus Dixie Winn and Dollar Tree , and Big Lots and a liquior store.

Good luck on your trip, not sure if any nice eaterys are close by but we can make it wthough Red lobster, or Ruth Crisp or any other fine dining spots.

    Judy

  19. I use my usual purse that holds everything I need when going to the ship. I then put that away for the duration of the cruise.

While on board during the day I only need my cabin key, so I tuck that away where I can reach it easily. ;)

If I'm going ashore yes, I carry a fanny pack. Usually it will hold everything I will need, and it frees up a much-needed hand. If I am going to need more than that, I use one of the old sturdy HAL totes. It's harder to carry, but it's the best I can come up with.

In the evening I always carry a purse, but that's more to complete the outfit than out of a real need. It holds only my cabin key, drink card, and a lipstick I always forget to refresh.

Always the voice of wisdoms and knowledge. Ruth C some day I hope to meet you. I follow you and find your advice to be priceless. I am a great fan of yours

In the past I have used, pockets, langlers, amd fanny packs, and totes or back packs on beach days and excursions. Last trip I did pack an evening bag.

This trip I am trying new a travel vest with multiple pockets and I plan to utilize

My husband as a pack mule if the vest does not work out, he has lots of pockets.

I am leaving the purses and evening bags at home, on the ship all you need is your room key, you can hang that around your neck On a langalar

At pool side you can use a tote for lotions and potions and reading material.

    Don't need a purse.

What ever you deside I hope you have fun and that Ruth C is on your ship cause she is fun to be around:p
