  1. live2cruise, I am sorry to read about your son and his passing.

It is physically the three of us going on this cruise but in reality there is a another one with us in spirit. We had a daughter, Allie, who was born with health challenges that she could not over come. She passed 2 days after her second birthday and as hard as it is to admit, we know she is in a better place. Owen was five when this happened and thankfully he was just old enough to remember her.

Within the year that she passed we took my mom and my in-laws on two different cruises as a way to say thank-you for their help. We also did it to make new family memories. I did a review of these two cruises combined into one. Please take the time to read it, I think you will appreciate it. Here is the link. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1873787

I know that you and your family will doing the exact same thing in November of this year, as we did a few years ago. It will be bitter-sweet. During that week you will look back and talk about moments and experiences that you all went through and experienced during his illness, both positive and negative. You will laugh and cry but it will be a trip to which you will all never forget. I believe and hope the day you spread his ashes will bring about a form of peace to you and your family.

We are sending you virtual hugs.

    Andrew

Thank you for sharing and YES Allie and Alex's stories are meant to be shared by sharing them we share awareness of their diseases and defects and it is by this that one day research may lead to cures! Our Alex was brilliant and we were very lucky to have him for 18 years. Like yours they were a true roller coaster but he taught us so much.i have been debating a suite for this cruise but we are b2b. I will have to keep checking for that wonderful price break. Know that Allie is still with you and will always be I am so sorry that this is the bond we must journey through together. Ask Lisa as a mom if it ever gets easier to see that new day. Safe travels as y'all are on the road today and enjoy every minute with Owen.

  2. depending on your budget there are so many things to see. We are going to rent a car and do Fort Williams park (portland Headlight) and then two lights because i love to sit on the water at two lights and eat my lobster roll from Lobster shack. other than that will just mosey around... I grew up in Portland so is just going home. lol may even visit my older child for a bit. :) wondering if they will let food back on where it is a US port... i would love to bring an italian from Amatos back on board to sit on my balcony that evening... :O

  3. we board next week and i will do a photo review when i return we have reservations at La cocina and the french restaurant mainly. i have a folder set aside to bring back all the dailies as well. In my book the only bad cruise is one i am not on.... if anyone has anything they would like to request that i bring back please e mail me at laredotupperware@gmail.com

  4. pictures are always great but from a cbp standpoint would do you no good. however it does sound like you have all your bases covered in mexico if you were to have issues then you would just contact the port agent or the local us embassy. but unless you miss the boat should have no issues.

  5. we went through victor bodden tours. I have a child that has special needs. Alex has had 7 open heart surgeries as well as has other issues. Bodden tours assigned a special guide just to us so that we could go at our own pace as well as had a shortened hike. we also did not get in at the dock we were able to walk into the water and sit on our tubes. I was really afraid that I was wasting money because I was scared Alex would not be able to do the hike. but with their help we had an awesome time and a great day. and my son learned lots of educational things that he shares with everyone now.

  6. I would suggest shuttling into Galveston Saturday after all in party arrive.. several of the hotels on the island provide free shuttles to the port. the last thing you want is to start a cruise Stressed from dealing with Houston traffic to get to the island on a sunday morning. We love our sunday mornings on the island before boarding.. a nice leisurely breakfast and a walk on the beach before heading to the port.

  7. I second a recommendation for Nacho and Cynthia... we spent a day with them and it was so memorable. we still talk about it. I am anxious to get back to belize now because it is like we are just going to visit our friends. If you book with them it is well worth your time and your money as you will have memories to last a lifetime.

  8. if cruising after jan 12 try the best western plus in Seabrook... I called yesterday and they said they offer the package but were over booked on it and it would reopen for an option after that date. Hope it helps.. if not we got an excellent deal on La Quinta in Webster including tax was 72 and then parking for the week at the port for 75 just for you to compare. have a safe journey and Happy Planning

  9. so we booked the jade last night for January after a really hard week we have decided this is what we need. We have a 17 year old that has heart disease and is in Failure... He loves Crepes.... Does the Jade still have them and where are they located... sorry for the ramble.... I guess I just do that.. Seems like on a whim I picked a perfect ship for Alex... lol he loves Medusa

  10. when we went last year was for our 16 year olds b day.. we did a walking ghost tour.. easy walking and full of history so was educational as well.. he still tells everyone about it... check out groupon for some deals on different ideas.. the street cars were fun.. as well as shopping at the riverwalk mall

  11. Monday Labor Day...

    2nd first formal night...

We took the opportunity to sleep in waking for brunch at about 10. we went to brunch at around 11 which seemed like a good time it was fairly empty at that point. after brunch we went and used the spa some and went up to the serenity deck. we came in to get ready for formal night at about 4 or so. we went to dinner and then we went to the second seating of the show which was good we got there about 8 to get seats for us and our dinner friends.. the show was Get Ready! it was ok.. after showtime we headed back to our room for bed.

    Tuesday Sea day.

yup today slept in again.. we went to brunch when we woke up. we did some walking and taking pictures. but really just stuck to relaxing the serenity deck was one of our favorite spots as well as the spa. we headed to dinner for our 6 pm seating and then we called it an early night. (rather unintentionally) we met to go meet our friends for showtime... or comedy.. oops..

well I will write more tomorrow going to head to bed for the night.. hope all is well with everyone.

  12. it gives you the upgrade of being in the spa cabins which means you get free use of the steam rooms and the thellaso pool normally 249 per couple for the week. Yes these rooms are huge. my dh and ds are both in electric scooters and we had both of tem in cabin and still had plenty of room if you are only 10 days out I would say go for it. if they end up needing the room at the last minute you would surely get a good upgrade. and when you are there make sure you say Hi to Jacinto he is the room steward in that area and he is awesome. tell him hi from his b2b cruisers that just left him.. :)

  13. Wow sunday already.. once you get on the ship time just flies.. well we woke up about 7 to the mom knock... well we got a bite to eat and by 815 or so all of the self carry people were off and mom had number 23 and she was off by 915 we were told to be in the lobby outside guest services by 10 well mom had left her sunglasses and knowing they were prescription I ran to see if I could catch her and got there right as she was about to exit. and found out that disembarkation was about 30 min ahead of schedule.. so we sat in the lobby and waited. we had a group of 11 b2brs. and 8 of us just did the turnaround.. so it was about 945 and we walked off the boat through customs and right back on.. and when we reboarded they were waiting for us with champagne, mimosas, and ginger ale.. ohhh how lovely. they took our picture and it was delivered to our cabin later in the week after this we were free to roam our empty ship.. we took more pictures.. I have not uploaded yet.. and then we headed up to lido.. dh went to the burrito bar to be the first in line and me and one of the other b2brs grabbed an end each of the Mongolian wok.. it was really good and one of the healthiest lunches you can grab on board. after eating we walked around some more.. we then went and got ready for muster once again.. after muster we got ready for dinner early dining this week we had ricardo and a shared table.. We met a great family that we shared a table with and ended up going to the shows and doing other things with them as well this week and have been e mailing them now that we are home. Alex came to dinner 1 night this week and when we got back to our room we had a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries from the hotel director.. we skipped the welcome aboard show again tonight though..

hope you are all enjoying if you have questions let me know.. and I will try to help ya out..
