  1. This will be my very first cruise ever. I have researched hours and hours, but there are still some things I wonder about - What is your "norm" for the places you dine for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Is the MDR open for breakfast and lunch as well? Is it always sit down and order from a menu? Is the buffet always open for all 3 meals? Do many people eat in the MDR for the first night dinner? Thanks in advance from a newbie :)

One of the great delights with cruising is that there are so many options and choices. If you like to be served you can eat in the MDR morning, noon & night. My personal preference is the Buffet for breakfast and lunch, MDR for dinner. I actually fin the buffet a bit soulless for dinner!

Then, when you want a change or just can't face looking at all that wonderful food, head off to the Aqua spa cafe with all good intentions, only to find that's the day they have the pool bbq!

Most important advice is...................relax, enjoy and like the rest of us, completely over eat :D

  2. Can I wait until we are onboard the Eclipse to purchase the 3-night dining package? We were hoping to apply this dining cost to our OBC.

    Thanks,

    Nancy

Tuscan Grille and Murano are both excellent. Qsine is a great and a different dining experience but if you go on your own you won't get the full effect. You really need a crowd so you can experience enough of the choices.

  3. I don't have hair :D

Seriously, my wife takes her own. Bought a very lightweight travel dryer in Boots last year and declared it was better and more powerful than the one she uses at home.................don't forget your adapters :D

  4. I have experienced sporadic problems with various areas of the website.............it's a good job they are better as a cruise line than they are with IT

I have also emailed to complain, but I wish I'd looked at these posts first....I wouldn't have bothered

  5. No desire whatsoever to book a CC or Aqua stateroom as we're not foodies. Much prefer drinking "falling over" water to endless food.

I don't believe Concierge entitles you to eat anywhere different than "normal" punters..............nor would I want to :D

  6. Do people actually cruise in Verandah cabins? I frequent this site daily, and all I seem to read about is Aqua cabin this and Concierge class that. I am in a Verandah cabin on the Summit. For my sailing there is quite a price difference to bump up to either CC or Aqua, so I guess I am content with my little balcony. I have never been on X so it will be a new experience for me regardless, but is there any value to upgrading??

With X I've had a regular balcony, an outside (porthole), will be Concierge on the next cruise only because I got a deal that was too good to miss and for the 2 after that have an outside (porthole) and then a balcony.

I just go for the best deal I can get and as you spend so little time in your cabin (oops sorry....Stateroom.......I forgot my cruising snobbery) what does it matter :D

X are really good. There are always critics and detractors, but then there are many more who simply enjoy their cruise without looking at every minor flaw!..................and I got perks with every booking!

  7. No idea why I would want to dine with the help. They are employees who work for a living on the ships.

Great comment.......................couldn't agree more, and you know us Brits.......the help stays downstairs::D

Thanks to everyone who has supported my original post. Nice to know there are still a few of us left who go on holiday for the rest, the experience and to see different places, not to walk around with a magnifying glass hoping to find the slightest imperfection :D

  8. Agreed. I wonder if those tortured souls who get twisted up about not being considered "special" expect the same special attention at a luxury hotel. Oh no! The General Manager didn't know my name!!

Just noticed you get on Infinity when I get off in San Diego :D

Sorry I think that might be Rich ?

  9. Agreed. I wonder if those tortured souls who get twisted up about not being considered "special" expect the same special attention at a luxury hotel. Oh no! The General Manager didn't know my name!!

The only reason the General Manager would know my name is if I was being a Prima Dona and making a nuisance of myself.

Having said that, we like Riu hotels...not " flash" but excellent service and great staff where the GM does know your name because he has it on a list when he goes round the tables at dinner. Not difficult, not special, just a very simple system that works and makes everyone feel valued. :D

  10. Bravo!:D

Thank you and also to those who've also offered a complimentary comment. :D

I probably came across as Mr Angry, which I am not.........I, like you, just wish people would stop expecting X or any other cruise line to pamper to their personal wishes and understand that they are no more " special" than any other guest.

We all have our personal likes & dislikes and unless you're fortunate enough to be Russian Oligarch who can afford his own ocean-going super cruiser, you're stuck with the rest of us, so stop moaning about the fact that X changed the smoked salmon supplier (yes, really) or whether there's enough froth on the coffee (yes, really) and start having some fun :D:D

  11. Just seen this thread and loving it!

This whole topic has been winding me up for a while.

Looking at member reviews and forum posts over the last few months there seem to be more and more people, especially those who've cruised a few times to think that they are special and expect something superior to the rest of us.

Cruising has become one the most popular forms of holiday and is......wait for it.......

mass market. It is no longer for the very rich and very fortunate, it's a holiday camp on the high seas. It may be a very nice holiday camp with lovely food and great entertainment, but essentially that's exactly what it is!

"Staff" from the Captain down to the guy who cleans out the bilges are there to do a job. Praise exceptional service by all means, but essentially for them it's their job. Why do people need to be on first name terms with their waiter, why do people care about the Elite Club hosts, who cares if the Captain doesn't personally ask you about your holiday experience. Who cares whether you get towel animals every day, once or never....did it ruin your holiday if you didn't? Who needs an Orio on your pillow every night, haven't you had enough to eat! Surely, it is the whole experience that matters and not whether you believe you should be treated like royalty.

It seems that too many people are taking cruises and spending their entire holiday trying to find fault and maintaining that their holiday has been ruined by the smallest defect or problem.

And lastly, for those who go round trying to look for any sign of aging and wear and tear, how well would your home stand up if you had 2,000+ people rampaging through it every week!

    Rant over!

  12. Not on the M class ships, you have to go to the Rendezvous lounge.

Last year on Infinity TA, there was more activity after 1st sitting, but before 2nd. If you are on 'Select' you will have to plan accordingly.

    Thanks.

We are on Select dining, partly so that we can get in some dancing before and after dinner

  13. Hello,

What type of music does D'Revelation play? I would also be interested in what other entertainment is on board.

    Have a great time!

I'd also be interested to know..........provided they will still be the House Band in 3 weeks. My wife and I are dancers (ballroom & latin) so we're always keen to know about the bands onboard.

  14. This came available yesterday for our November cruise but unlike ones weve received before, from Azamara, it doesnt contain any information regarding our flights, transfers, pre cruise hotel stay.

We do have these on our ATOL certificate and TA confirmation invoice.

    Is this normal?

We sail in 3 weeks (Panama). Our tickets included everything including vouchers for the transfers & hotel. I was under the impression that you need the Guest Ticket pack as this is also your requirement for check in for flights...well it is with BA (apparently)

  15. Oh thanks for this message, Is it best to book Speciality as a package or on ship as and when we fancy it?

It depends. Sometimes you can get a "deal" by waiting till you're on board because if the speciality restaurants aren't selling well (it varies from cruise to cruise) they will want to get bums on seats.

When I booked ours I did it beforehand and got a discount anyway.

If this is your first cruise the one thing you'll learn from these forums is that there are a lot of very knowledgeable people out there who are happy and willing to share their knowledge and experience.......but there are also others, whose opinions you take with a pinch of salt. Fortunately there are far more of the former and some of our America cousins are the real experts, and have a wealth of cruise experience.

  16. Don't feel ripped off! As others have said you must have unfortunately mis-read the information. Of course the MDR & Oceanview are gratis as are a couple of other eateries. The food in all venues is wonderful.

We sailed on the Eclipse summer 2013 and also did the speciality restaurant package. Admittedly not cheap but the food and service in both the Tuscan Grille and Murano was exceptional. Qsine is quirky and well worth a visit but only if you go with a group...otherwise you can't order enough of the dishes to get a taste of everything

    Just relax and enjoy! :D
