  1. That is about right, remember that the cars are smaller than what we are used to so book the car size accordingly for your luggage.

It was nice to be met after a long flight and be taken to your hotel.

We are also planning on staying at the Premier Inn Waterloo and will be using them back to LHR.

we will be at the premier in in June. If you are there before, please report back and let me know what you think of the hotel and the area. We are thinking that its pretty centralized to walk to many of the attractions, but maps can be deceiving .

  2. Order your Visitor Oyster time ahead of time. Estimate how much money you want to load onto the card and order it a couple of weeks before you leave the US.you will not only save money as there is a maximum amount you pay each day no matter how many times you use the system but it is very convenient.Mine arrived five days after I ordered it online. Then when you arrive at Heathrow tired and jet lagged you don't have to fuss with the Underground ticket machines. Just scan your card and head down to the Piccadilly line. Also note that one or two of the cars have doors that open level with the platform so you can wheel your bags onto the car -- no lifting required.

Thanks I will definitely order ahead of time. What do you think is a good amount to preload on the card.

  3. Take the Piccadilly Line (dark blue one on the map) to Hammersmith or Barons Court. Cross the platform and get the District line (green one on the map) to Westminster.

Either leave Westminster station and walk across Westminster Bridge or use the lifts to get to the Jubilee line (grey one on the map) and go one stop (from platform 3) to Waterloo.

    Thank you so much Steve.

  4. My sister and I will be staying at premier inn Waterloo. What is the best way for us to get from Heathrow airport to our hotel. I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to research so any advice will be helpful.

I saw information about getting an oyster card but I cant figure out the route we would take from the airport. looks like we will be at Terminal 4.

    Thank you.

  5. My sister and I want to do 2 days pre cruise and looking for a safe and reasonably priced hotel. We came across this new hotel and wanted to know if the 1) is the area safe 2) is it easy to get to tourist sites from this area 3) any suggestion you might have about staying in London pre cruise.

    Many Thanks

  6. OK I have to admitted I am almost in a panic because I read the cruise air section. Can someone please tell me they have arrived on time to go on cruise using choice air. We could not afford air fare booking through airlines (upper $3000-$6000) per person) vs choice air for total of $1200. That is going from Kansas City to Barcelona one way. Maybe I don't know how to book airline tickets or something. We don't fly except once every few years and usually state side on southwest. We are flying out on a Wed for a Sun departure. PLEASE PLEASE let me hear some postive stories!!

I flew to Barcelona the day of my cruise using choice air. Choice air is not the airline. I flew Delta using them and still received my points. It was a great experience and saved us a few hundred. My flight got in on time before 9:00 and we did the pre-cruise excursion ( we were very tired). Good luck!

  7. A lot of the talk you hear about aft cabins are the few along the transom (back of the boat) which on the BR is cabins 1100, 1104 , 1604 and 1600.

1588 is in an aft location. The more aft you are the less traffic you get in the hall but also the more walking you do.

Thanks I think we'd prefer midship.

  8. My husband and I have been to Antigua several times. Our favorite beach is Darkwood Beach and we take the local bus to get there as it is so much cheaper than taking a cab - $1.50 per person each way. I finally got around to blogging about our day on Antigua, if you want to check out more details. I agree that there are dangers to be aware of but that is true of every island. Being aware of your surroundings and not wandering into less populated areas of town are all well advised, no matter what island you are visiting. We have walked through St. John's several times on the way to the bus station and have not felt unsafe. We stick to the main streets and get to experience some of the island culture at the same time. I do agree that the vendors in the tourist market can be very aggressive and we don't tend to go there since it is somewhat tiring to keep fending them off.

Thank you for this. My sister and I will be the same for St. croix, St. Lucia and Antigua. We are glad to see that we made good choices based on your blog. We planned to just stay in the port at St. lucia after reDing your blog it seems that we will have enough to see there. Can you give me a clearer idea of what's in port to see and do. Thank you.

  9. We just got back from an 8 nighter on Carn. Freedom. We were at Antigua from 8- 6 and had a great time. Sail-in was on of the best we've ever seen as there are beautiful cliffs with some cute tiny beaches on the starboard side. Even a small waterfall so make sure you are up on the deck for sail-in and sail-away as this is one of the better ones. We don't take ship excursions. About 1/2 the time we take an independent excursion and 1/2 the time we just do something ourselves. At Antigua we walked a very easy 5 to 10 min. to the bus station and got on bus #22, which we took to Darkwood Beach for $1.50 a person. Just a note that they wait until the bus is full (about 20 people) before they leave and we waited for about 20 minutes. It was great people watching as the bus station is right next to the market so we didn't mind the wait. It was about a 15 - 20 minute ride. Darkwood Beach was just beautiful and there is only one restaurant/concession and we rented 2 chairs for $5 each. You can put them in the sun or in the shade so no worries about that. Changing rooms and bathrooms are there also. Nice little restaurant that had very reasonable drinks and food prices. Swimming was nice even though it wasn't an ideal weather day and we got in the water twice. Antigua beaches aren't real good to snorkel off of (better to do off of a boat or just wait til a different island) but there was some reef a short swim out. I love to snorkel, but we were also at St. Thomas and Tortola on this trip and both are better for the snorkeling so this was just a beach day. We spent about 5 hours there. One of the things we liked best was the incredible view we had of Montserrat and Mt. Soufriere (which is an active volcano) which had steam spewing out of it. Waited for the bus less than 10 minutes when we decided to leave and the charge was again $1.50 per person, and that is U.S. dollars. Before we got back on the ship we got a roti at Roti King and we loved it. If you never had one go for it, it was great. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this information. I will be following your itinerary in August. Can you tell me where the Roti King is so that we can partake in this as well. Thank you.
