How is the accessibility at these beaches.  Just watched the Mallorca beach video and realized that many stairs and no railings is going to be a deal breaker for me.  We don't need full accessibility, but need an easier access.

    Hi,

The one shown in the video now has a hand rail, and there  is more than one access point .

    Hi ,

It is easy access  at all the beaches mentioned and I myself  would need a hand rail there are none I know  without  one, the one shown in the video now has a hand rail.

Hello Roger B! What a wealth of information you have! We are two adults in port June 13 at 12 noon and departing at 8 p.m. What is the closest lovely, quieter beach to the cruise ship pier in Palma? We would like opportunity to rent chairs and possibly umbrellas but don't need other amenities. Second question -- instead of beach on our own, I'm considering a 4-hour catamaran sailing from La Lonja Marina Charter at 2:30 p.m. but my husband is very nervous we won't make it back to the ship by the 8 p.m. sailing. Can you provide advice on availability of taxis from port to La Lonja Marina and then if there should be some to take us back? My research shows it should be about 15-minute drive from port to the marina. Thank you!!!

    Hi,

The Nearest beach is Cala Mayor,  Very near the port 10 mins in a taxi you could walk in about 30 mins.

    https://www.seemallorca.com/beaches/cala-mayor-beach-palma-de-mallorca-cala-major-(beach-resort)-664263,

Not my choice if you want a quiet beach, this is a very small beach ,lovely setting ,20 mins by taxi ,going back to the port you might have 10 min walk into the village of Portals nous where there is a taxi rank or the bus .

    https://www.fincallorca.com/mallorca/beach/cala-bendinat

You will find it a struggle to get back it is at least 4.5 hours , I would not take a chance on the catamaran tour.

Hi, I'm hoping for some help.  My wife & I are arriving on Sunday, June 2 '24.  We will be on the island from 12pm-11pm.  Our plan was to rent a car and follow one of the routes suggested, but it appears as though Arash Rentals is closed on Sundays.  We are hoping for a recommendation for another rental option that would be open on that day, & would accommodate a late return.

    Hi ,

I think  If you contact Arash they will leave a car for you at the port ,with a locked key box, that you return to the port ,this can all be done on line .

Failing this the only other option to hire a car would be the airport, you have plenty of time as it will not take longer that 30mins to get to the airport by taxi.

    Hi,

You are in the right thread now.

I don't think you will be to do a cycle ride and hire a car.

There is a lovely cycle ride from the port all along the the coast for miles.

If you hire a car for the day there are many things to see just look back at my past posts.

They will leave the car at the port to pick up and return to the port.

I believe I asked earlier about bicycling in La Palma. Roger you are a great source of information and I got some rental companies. It also looks great to rent a car and explore. We love to bike (not on mountain roads) Could we bike along the coast then rent a car for the afternoon to venture out to a town or beach depending on the October weather? Would love to hear your opinion and suggestions. Sorry I tried to find you DIY not new, but couldn't locate it. Thanks in advance!

Hi Not sure if you are on the right island La Palma is in the Canary islands.

I can only help with Palma de Mallorca.

Has anyone been to St Helena? Any recommendations?

Hi, We returned in December, and had a wonderful private tour and it was so cheap,

We will collect you from the seafront on arrival and return you to the ship or Jamestown (which is a short walk back to the ship) so you can visit the shops, St James’ Church, museum, etc.

Our tours come with a pack lunch; please advise if anyone has a special dietary requirement.   The cost of our tour will be £135.00  for 3 people which does not include the cost of entrance fees to the visitor attraction sites.

There used to be a stand/canopy set up in town offering a trip to kolmanskop. Someone posted a photo but I cannot now find it.  Does this still exist!

We came back in December  from Ludawitz, there was a stand on the Dock with trips to Kolmanskop.

Hello Roger B!  I see your favorite cruise line is Oceania - it is ours also!

We will be on Vista at the end of September and will stop in Santa Cruse de la Palma, a new port for us.  We are a group of 9.  What would your recommend for first timers to do?  Tour?  DIY? Would very much appreciate your advice so I can start planning. We are pretty much open to anything. 🙂 Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Hi

Santa cruse de Palma is an island in the Canary  Islands group  and is in the Atlantic ocean.

Unfortunately  this not Palma de Mallorca, so I can't help you 😢

    Hi Roger,

We are looking at booking the Oasis Catamaran for our group of 21 when we're there in August, and I understand from the company that it's 6-7 minute drive from the port.  They gave me a quote for a transfer, but do you know if there are city buses we can take as well?  Or given our group size if it's easier to just do the transfer through the company?  I don't want to worry about having to find 5 cabs at once to take us all.

    Hi,

It's about 5mins in a taxi and about 12 eu for 4 from the main cruise  terminal.

So work it with their  quote or you could walk  around 20/ 30 mins.

We intend to do the same thing. We’ll be arriving on the Oasis on Monday, June 17 from 8 am - 4 pm. and it was recommended by Roger to visit Palma & the Mercat and just wander leisurely around town at own pace.

I keep hearing about a possible shortage of cabs. Has this issue been resolved & are cabs readily available at the cruise port & in Palma for the return trip back to the port?

    Thanks.

I think all taxi issues  have been  resolved,  you are not coming  at the height of the season , so you should have no problem.

Thank you Roger, 30 mins is doable - is it easy to find?

Another question.... how do we know where it docks.  Will we find out in the morning or beforehand while on the cruise?  Thanks!

I have a feeling that you will dock at the main terminal, just walk along the seafront towards the cathedral, you can't get lost !!

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before.  I am sailing on RC Oasis of the Seas departing Barccelona 18th August.  19th we are in Mallorca.  Silly question in ,

comming..... Is it possibly to just get of the cruise and walk into the city/beach/harbour area?  As it's our first day we want to take it at our own pace, might get off at 9, might get off at 12.  Just wandring if we are able to walk off and wander around the city or do we have to get transport from the port? Thank you!

     Hi,

If the ship docks at the main cruise terminal on the Passeo Maritimeo it is a 30-minute walk into town, the nearest beach is in Cala Mayor also 30 mins in the opposite direction.

the ship docks at the Dique de Oeste , you will have to get a taxi or a shuttle into town.

Youngest kid is 10, other 2 are 14 & 15. It might be easier to just do 2 cabs now that you say that? If there is lots of availability of cabs.

Just a heads up on the availability  of taxis ,last year in in August  it was impossible to find a taxi, the council  are trying  to address  the issue  for 2024.

Hello! We are also coming to Palma in early August and planned to book at Balnearos Illietas. Our ship arrives at 12 but there is still late availability. We are a family of 5 and I wondered if you knew of anyways to rebook a taxi or transfer to the beach club? Or will it be easy to find a taxi for 5 at the port? Can the beach club arrange for a taxi back? Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi,

Taxi from the port for 5 will be difficult as they only take 4 people, there are larger taxis ( few and far between) .

An Uber is bookable they have larger cars to take 5.

    https://www.uber.com/es/en/r/cities/taxi/palma-es-ib-es/

Coming back to the port the restaurant will call you a taxi or Uber, if very busy you can get the number 4 bus from outside the Balinerrio which will take you close to the port .

Ask the driver to let you off at Porto Pi otherwise, it will be two taxi's.

Looks like only one other ship in port that day the much smaller Oceania Maritima

You might  be lucky,Oceania Marina is a small ship , but there is plenty  of space on the main terminal quay

It's  a long walk  just  to get the gates at westerly quay ,but I think they will have shuttle buses or you can get a taxi.

My understanding is that RCCL usually docks ay Estacio Maritima. Are there different parts? Dique de Oeste? Muelle de Poniente? Are they near each other?
    thank you

Hi , I am not sure which Quay  ,you will Dock at.

The Estacio Maritima is the best Quay  as is nearest  to the town.

If you Dock at Dique de Oeste is is a long way to get to the town .

Roger sorry to bother you with one more question! We have decided on Son Matias or Palma Nova Beach and plan to take cab from Port there in morning. Are cabs easy to get back to ship from the beach area in the afternoon? Thank you again.

     Hi ,

You should have no problem getting a taxi back to the port, there are 2 taxi ranks in Palma Nova which you will see as you come into the town, and one in the center.

You will have bigger choices of restaurants and facilities also.

    Hi Roger,
We will be in Palma middle of August from cruise ship and want to spend day at beach. Do you suggest booking ahead at the Balneario Illetas or going to Palma Nova beach this time of year? We are looking to taxi both ways and rent chairs and umbrella. I Appreciate your help or any other suggestions for this beach day.

    Hi,

Both beaches will be very crowded in August, you will find a bed on the Palma Nova beach you can't book one ,Illetas is much smaller and has a limited number of beds.

Personally I would still go to Illetas as it is far prettier , there 3 beaches there with a mix of sand and rocky shoreline.

If you are there around 10am you will definitely find a bed .if you book the restaurant for lunch it is excellent.

     It will be Hot !!

Hi We will be a large group in Mallorca on 10/15/24. We may all do different things but it's a pretty active group. After preliminary searches, I'm thinking biking may be the way to see the sites. I saw a previous post by Roger (man you are a great source of info!) or swim and beach club if it's warm enough. I'd love to hear suggestions. We have from 8-6 in Mallorca, which looks stunning!!

Hi, October is a lovey month to visit Mallorca ,if you are up to an energetic bike ride this would be a good way to see the sites .

An easier day would be to just cover Palma .

Just looked, all the beds are taken on that day. 🙁  Maybe we will have more luck at the larger beaches.  But, the ship doesn't arrive until noon.

I live next store to this beach , if you want to go I can probably get you a bed ,send exact times and name to my email at shoeuk at hotmail .com .
