  1. Flying Flip, just go to guest services and they’ll direct you to the person who you need to communicate with. They were so nice to us, even leaving a message on our cabin phone, telling us what they were planning. It was quite nice and since they posted it in the daily, people actually showed up!

  2. We enjoy ballroom dancing, which isn’t real common to see on cruises now. We were happy to see that on Reflection they provided pre-recorded ballroom music in a venue several nights for an hour or so. This was requested by another couple who wanted ballroom dance. So, if you want specific music, go ask. They very well may accommodate you. The foyer gets so crowded, it was very nice to go to another venue that was open and inviting. On Reflection we were in the Sky Lounge.

  3. Regarding Labadee, the contentment of your family may be determined by the age of your kids. The beach we swam at was very nice, lunch is available, and there are some excursions you can purchase while you’re there, I think. ie: zip line, roller coaster, kayaks. I’m not sure about Cozumel and the Mayan ruins, but it is easy to get to nice beaches or Chankanaab Park and other fun things to do, if you so choose. Just don’t go off the beaten path. You should be fine in the tourist areas. Try going to the ports of call boards for both places. There’s tons of info there. Have fun!

  4. If I were king of the world, and clearly I'm not :-), I would treat deck chairs like a parking lot. If your caboose is in the chair, it's yours for as long as you are sitting in it. If your caboose is not in the chair, it's for another guest to use. I simply can't remember a time when I had a great parking place at the grocery store but needed to go have lunch (or fill in the blank with whatever) so I reserved my great parking place for when I get back. It may be 29 minutes or it may be 3 hrs. Sounds ridiculous, right? Because it is ridiculous. If my car is not in the parking place, it simply isn't mine. As I watch around the crowded areas, people are coming and going quite frequently. If everyone would only use the chair when they were actually sitting in it there WOULD be enough to go around. The cruise lines would help by having a designated area where you could leave your beach bag and belongings while swimming. I've seen people stand around in the pool for a LONG time, walk over to their chair, grab their stuff and leave. Why tie up a chair for your bag/towel? My DH actually thought my idea was crazy until our last cruise when he actually watched the activity. So many people walking around looking for a place to sit, 15 people in the pool and 200 lounge chairs being held down by towels. The concept of leaving your chair for (fill in the blank with lunch, get a drink, go to the restroom) wouldn't be unreasonable, except that uncivilized people don't adhere to that, so......I would eliminate saving of loungers at all. I truly think it would actually work better than what we have now.

  5. We stayed two nights pre-cruise in February of this year. We’ve stayed there pre-cruise a couple times a year for at least 15 years. This year we were truly disappointed. The location is great, the breakfast is great, the evening reception is very nice but our room was filthy, including scummy used soap with hair stuck on it in the shower and dirty tissues under the bed. We waited until 4pm to get into our room, which is understandable since it is a busy location. What we can’t accept graciously is a dirty room.

  6. We were just there. The beach they recommended for swimming was to the right. It was a nice bay, just adjacent to the inflatable toys/water park. The water was warm and the beach sandy. You can rent a umbrella for $20, and chairs are free. The clamshells are on another beach to the left.

  7. As we were driving away from the house, going over that inner check list, we discovered hubby forgot his swim suit. Laughed, turned around and got it. Luckily, we’ve never forgotten anything important. Most recent cruise I forgot my shampoo, contact lense solution and bandaids. Easy fixes in ft lauderdale

  8. My sister and I are lifetime members and we love the new freestyle program. We are losing much faster than on the old program. So much flexibility. We just returned from a 11 day cruise, plus 2 days in Florida prior to the cruise and I'm so proud to say we ate so well on board! We had our treats, for sure and the occasional pina colada; but we always stayed in control and we exercised by walking and swimming. It can be done! You can cruise and still fit in your pants for the way home! :-)

  9. We took our first cruise in 2002 and have just completed our 20th cruise (I think). Yes, there certainly have been slow and steady cutbacks since then. Slow and steady, so as not to rattle the crowds too much. No individual cutback has been a deal breaker, but they really are starting to add up. I couldn’t help but notice in the daily paper on our Celebrity Reflection that at least 1/3 of the “activaties“ offered on any given day were actually up charge services/activities. Having said that, the prices have stayed relatively low in the years we have been cruising. Our very first cruise was the most expensive cruise we’ve taken and not the longest, by far. Still, overall, sad to see the changes.

  10. The December cruise will be “children intensive”. The January cruise will have less children aboard for two reasons. One reason is that the kids are off school over the Christmas holidays and, and the second reason is that families with children tend not to take longer than 7 day cruises. That may or may not make a difference for you.

  11. The self serve laundry is something I miss when not on Princess. I love packing clean clothes to go home, instead of sweaty, musty dirty ones. I don’t trust sending it out, especially after hearing so many people report shrunken clothes. Additionally, the thought that our clothes are washed with other people’s bothers me.

  12. So glad you had a good weigh in! It DOES give you some wind beneath your wings, right? You have a great goal to zip line on Oasis! I did it. It was fun, but it’s over in the blink of an eye. But, it’s still fun and ou can go again simply by waiting in line again. It takes longer to wait and then ge5 the harness on than the whole zip line takes, lol

We braved a snow storm to attend our meeting today. Both my sister and I had great weighing, 2.8, 2.9. It was worth the effort. Overall, I think I’m losing faster than the points plus program with less counting and more flexibility.

  13. Once we left a bottle of wine for the next cruisers to use our cabin, with a bon voyage note from us

Last year I left some magazines that I had finished and thought someone else might enjoy them

Once I left my sneakers at the pre-cruise hotel but didn’t realize it until we were packing to disembark the cruise. I wore socks with flip flops back to Michigan in February......brrr. I’ll never live that one down!
