I was diagnosed with cancer in March, 2014 and had surgery that April.  Due to the unsuccessful operative intervention, I had to undergo radiation treatment the next spring, and took a cruise that June, a little over 2 weeks after I finished that course of treatment.  I'm currently being treated for this cancer, and have taken eight cruises in the past five years, with two more scheduled for this year.  I find cruising to be a very enjoyable and comfortable way to travel, so much so that of those cruises five have been 9 nights or longer.  I have met other cancer patients on cruises during these travels, at least one identified themselves as terminal.  Everyone I have spoken with felt a cruise was a good way to travel and continue to enjoy life.  Lung cancer would present a challenge, particularly if oxygen/breathing assistance machines are required, however people do manage.  In short, it can be done.

I wish your friend the best as they navigate the challenges of a life threatening illness.  And I wish you all safe and enjoyable travels.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience!

If the doctor says yes, go and enjoy the family memories when she can.

My husband had cancer and he cruised between chemo treatments before he passed away.   He did want he wanted, rested when he wanted and sometimes had dinner in the cabin.  When he was tired, he would sit on a lounge chair and enjoy the view of the ocean.

    Thank you for the response!

Do you need to fly to cruise as the doctor may clear her fit to cruise but not to fly. This happened to me a few years ago.

Second possible issue is insurance, some companies may simply refuse to cover.

I sincerely hope you do manage to sort any possible issues and enjoy some precious family time together.

    Thank you for your response!

We are looking at itineraries that won't involve flying

What does her doctor say?  It's not up to you to tell her to go or not.  It's between her and her doctor.  EM

Sorry, should have added that she is checking with her doctor to make sure she is able to go. In the meantime, I'm trying to gather as much information for her  🙂

  5. A family member who has stage 3 lung cancer would love to go on a cruise for a family reunion. Considering that the survival rate for lung cancer is unfortunately low, she would like to spend the time with her family to make memories while she is still feeling well. She is currently taking targeted immunotherapy.

Anyone have experience cruising with cancer? Should we advise her against it?

  6. On our last cruise, we waited until they offered an additional OBC on the cruise we were on before making our booking. We received a $50 OBC to use on the cruise which I thought was a great added bonus. Hoping to see a similar promotion on our upcoming cruise!

  7. In 2012, we made a deposit onboard in CND. We finally booked a cruise for this year. I was pleasantly surprised when I called Celebrity to make the final payment because it was $400 CHEAPER than what the website told me. I was advised that when you make an onboard booking, the exchange rate on that day is used to calculate taxes and ports for any future cruises. Because the CND dollar at the time we paid the deposit (2012) was close to par with USD, it resulted in the difference of almost $400! So when you make an onboard booking, keep in mind that you are locking in the exchange rate of that day for any future cruises! (I hope my post makes sense and the Celebrity rep had explained it to me properly)

  8. We paid $324.95 for a 11 night cruise. It included all prints + digital copies. I think the regular price was $399? Also, I remember that there was a sale when I booked it online...

It was a great deal for us! We went to every photo opportunity on and off the ship AND whenever we saw a photographer wandering around, we asked him/her to take our photo :)

Regarding whether or not you can link cabins, I think the rule is yes, if the other cabin occupants are your dependants under 21 (or 18?) OR as long as someone from the cabin that is linked to the photo package is in the picture.

    Hope this helps!

    BALCONY SIZE: BIG!

    WIND A PROBLEM?: No

  10. I've done a few RCI cruises with my family and did my first Celebrity cruise in January with my Fiance. It was his first cruise and he absolutely LOVED it.

The reason we chose Celebrity as his first cruise was because of their all-inclusive beverage package. It was AWESOME being able to try all the drinks, bottled water, and specialty teas/coffess without worrying about what the final tab was going to be. He definitely got his money's worth while I came close but probably just broke even :)

If you enjoy a laid-back atmosphere and not a fan of "active" activites (ie. there are no rock-climbing walls, ice rinks, etc.), you will LOVE Celebrity. The experience of listening to jazz music under the stars on their Lawn Club is one of the coolest experience I had on-board a cruiseship. As long as you don't mind that there is not much to do after 10-11pm except to relax, Celebrity is definitley worth a try.

We are booked on the Allure for our next cruise because I want my Fiance to get a taste of what RCi cruises are like. I think he is already overwhelmed after looking at the list of activities I have planned for us! I have never been on the Oasis class so definitely looking forward to all the acitivites on-board!
