Back to back on two different cruise lines.
Floridastorm replied to Floridastorm's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
Thanks to all for the very comprehensive replies. Maybe it is a fairly foolish thing to contemplate in that I'm a very senior citizen with a VA disability which may hamper facilitating the move from one ship to the other even if the Celebrity cruise had no delay. There are other cruises that leave Florida on a transatlantic and continue on with a European itinerary via the same ship. -

I was assuming that most passengers aboard the Rotterdam would be either embarking or disembarking in the city of Rotterdam which I believe is the ships home port. As such then possibly my querie could be answered by those passengers. π€ -
Considering doing a transatlantic Florida to Amsterdam on Celebrity Silhouette and a European cruise on Holland America Statendam from Amsterdam. The Silhouette arrives at 6 AM May 5th and the Statendam departs 4 PM May 5th. Is this just a foolish endeavor or have others done it with little difficulty? β

Disembarcation in Rotterdam. Accessed a few videos on the port, the central station, and the city itself. Imagine that most passengers head for Amsterdam after departing the ship. Considering that there are give or take 3,000 passengers aboard plus quite a few crew. I am wondering how packed the trains and buses get heading for Amsterdam? How many people decide to stay a day or two in Rotterdam in lieu of that or they just want to see Rotterdam? Just curious as the Celebrity Silhouette does the same transatlantic but ports in Amsterdam. I don't know whether to feature getting us from the ship to the central station with a couple of bags and then lugging them onto the train and then again to the place we would stay in Amsterdam. Being an old guy and somewhat disabled I have to plan for everything these days. I guess if other people do it without much hassle then maybe we can do it. Any info would be much appreciated. Dave -

Considering a transatlantic in March or April either on the Rotterdam or Statendam. I notice that on just about all of HAL's ships the Oceanview cabins are on the main deck (lowest deck) and below an activity deck. That to me always means noise above. Is this true with the Oceanview cabins on both of these ships? If so we will get a veranda cabin just to be sure of fairly quiet nights. Thanks again for any info provided. π Dave -
Another thought would be to take Celebrity, HAL, or Princess (the ships I would use) from Florida TA to Southhampton. Then board one of these cruise lines or another comparable one in Southhampton for a cruise around Great Britain and Ireland, and then catch the QM2 out of Southhampton to New York. Then a short flight back to Florida if you live there. That way you just remain on cruise ships the entire time and don't have to fool with the hassles and expense of staying on land, getting around, and having to lug baggage all over the fruited plain. π’

This cabin is the last cabin aft on Deck 6. It seems to be adjacent to the Eden. Does anyone know if this will be a noisy area? Thanks Again. π

I am looking at the March 2024 sailing. And was just assuming that a transatlantic crossing would have fewer passengers as the other ships we have done were only half full and with zero kids.

How was it going out of Tampa as opposed to treking 300 miles to Miami or Fort Lauderdale and having to put up with the mob getting into those ports? I imagine being on a smaller ship, with the reduced amount of passengers even greater on a transatlantic, that it must have been a senior's joy. How were the Aqua Class cabins. I know that they are just balconies with the addition of the Blue Restaurant and I think a private lounge?

I'm of course familiar with Great Circle and Rhumb Line routes. I was not the Navigation Officer but was the Operations Officer but often had dealings with navigation. When on a Windstar transatlantic, a few months ago, they took a southerly route departing from Miami. We had good seas all of the way. I cannot see Norwegian taking anything but the southerly route in January. Even if you take extreme precaustions you can easily end up in storms like I did on more than one naval ship. Talk about high seas of 60 foot swells and hurricane force winds for days on end. No fun even for a seafarer like myself. π’

NCL Joy departs January 11 and arrives January 21st in Southhampton. There are no port stops. However a suite is less than an inside cabin on most cruises and is appealing to me. Would then be taking the European trains around Europe when the tourists are still a distant thought. For any of you that have traveled transatlantic in the winter and possibly done Europe at that time, please let me know what to expect and is it worthwhile? I grew up in the north but have lived in Florida since my US Navy career was completed. Thanks for any and all info on this subject. My Best...........Dave β

On the transatlantic formal nights is a sport jacket or suit required? How about just a nice dress shirt and trousers? Really don't like packing formal stuff if I don't have to use it. We retired folks in Florida practically never see a suit or sport jacket unless going to a funeral. π

Looks very close to the garage. Do the porters take the luggage out of your car or do you have to bring it to them? The reason that I ask is I'm a fairly old guy who has a veteran's disability and I can't lift much of anything. Would tip them regardless. -

The Equinox is tying up at Terminal 19 instead of Terminal 25 in Port Everglades. How close is Terminal 19 to the Palm Parking Garage? Is it closer than Terminal 25? Thanks very much in advance. π Dave -
I guess that's a good point to know.

Where pray tell is this located on the Celebrity Website as I must have missed it? Thank you as I will print out and take it with us. π

We are on the Equinox for an 11/12 sailing. Since I don't fool with apps and the such on my cell phone (only do calling) I filled in and printed out all of the documents necessary for Check-In with the exception of the Health Questionnaire which I can't seem to find on Celebrity's web site when I checked in. If there is somewhere on the site where I can access it would appreciate some assistance. Or, is it something that is done at the terminal when you are physically checking in? I guess if you are an app person you just use that to check in with via cell phone. Thanks again from an old timer who grew up when there were no things like cell phones and who never got interested in learning how to use apps. π
