  1. We had R402, midship penthouse both on Ruby and Emerald.

This cabin is directly under Lido deck and both times we experienced "rolling Thunder" approx, 6:30am each morning. My guess they are moving carts of towels or food products just above our heads.

A question for Aft fans... did you find soot on your balcony while underway from the stacks?

    Thanks

    Bob

  2. The Terrace pool on both Ruby and Emerald within the last 10 months were freezing. Both pools had nets over them for 1 day as chemicals were added.

the nearest washrooms were by the aft elevators!!

    Get my drift

  3. Had a penthouse on the Emerald last Feb.

The chaise loungers on the balcony were wood with no cushions. Very hard. Room steward said cushions were not available

We put in a suggestion to the Hotel Manager to change to fabric loungers that were visible on balcony verandas seen on decks below ours

  4. We got off the multy showed Emerald March 6

What stood out to me was the hovering hoard waiting to pounce on the few blue covered seat in the Princess theatre 5 min. before production show start.

Premier package people gave up their right to a blue seat just prior to show time. Late comers without that package hung out next to the wall like vultures cause the rest of us had filled all seats early.

By the way Kevin our eloquent CD mentioned the ship was full...2954 SOB.

  5. After sailing with HAL for 13 years and 23 cruises we tried the Ruby last fall and the Emerald a month ago.

We found the Princess experience much to our delight.

HAL's entertainment has deteriorated to the point where tv shows from the BBC are projected on the wall in the main stage venue. These shows are available on your tv in your stateroom.

So far the presentations on our last two cruises include production shows worth watching, a tribute singer (Lionel Richie), fabulous multy person magic show and other stand up singers have caused us to book the Sapphire next fall and Majestic next spring. We won't be going back to HAL.

  6. Just off the aging Emerald March 6. We exclusively sun baked our lily white bodies around the Terrace pool aft on deck 15.

The adult pool was freezing cold and was completely netted over for 24 hours as chemicals were applied.. Nearest washrooms were indoors by the aft elevators!!

Our relaxing cruise had a total of 8 persons under the tender age of 18, nary a person of such ilk near this pool all cruise.

  7. Got off Emerald last week with 2 new blue  bags

Went to the grocery store today and bought a bag of milk

lifted bag off counter and milk fell on the floor

the brand new Princess bag split down the whole side??!!

My HAL bag from three years ago is still going strong

  8. Looked up on Princess website for 10 day cruise on Caribbean Princess Oct. 28, 2025.

Intrigued by $99 deposit in red letters on their website

Called our TA and told him to book a suite

He fought with Princess for 2 hours when they applied deposit of $2,160.00

Apparently the $99 displayed on their Ad did not apply to suites??!!

    Not impressed

  9. Got off Emerald last week in a penthouse.

The mattress was 2 singles squished together

I almost slid sideways off my side. My wife woke up with neck pains that caused her to chew Tylenols for 3 days

Room steward said he would mention it to Hotel manager. Nothing was done.

Ship was built in 2007, wonder if the sleeping pad was original.

  10. Fresh sushi and beautiful uncut cakes (until lots of pictures were taken) were for sure available the last sea day.

Once the presented sushi is gone it is not replaced apparently, so get to the Marketplace for lunch at 11:30

Enjoy drinks at the Outriggers bar aft, made by Sujiun and (choke the chicken) Igede. Best bartenders on the ship IMO

  11. 14 days finishing March 6, 2024

1...Ensconced  in Riviera deck underneath Lido. Rolling thunder from above starting at 6am

2... Terrace pool had cold fresh water, netted over on day 11 because of chemicals added

3...Total power failure ship wide on day 2 for 20 minutes. Very very quiet except from those in the elevators!!

4...Balcony doors slide open. On HAL they open outwards causing many to SLAM Shut!!

5...Four production shows in Princess Theatre. Premier package owners had blue covered seats to use until 5 min. before show time.

6...Curacao had 2 golf carts to propel interested guests the 1 mile to town. Aruba had none for the same distance.

7...Port side balconies faced the docks and town accept in Fort Lauderdale

8...2.5 laps of Promenade deck equals 1 mile. Fairly wide in spots with uncushioned chaise lounger

9...Final day lunch in the busy Marketplace had fresh sushi and incredible cakes.

10... Had a great cruise on a full ship. Reports of 8 kids onboard.

We abandoned HAL and jumped ship to Princess last Nov. and hope to enjoy many voyages on a line that continues to stage live acts go out for more than 10 days.

I have to go now to start my diet

  12. This happened to us last time on HAL

The Captain announced on the first day at 1pm your cabins are ready.

We opened the door on our signature suite to a pig sty

The garbage cans were overflowing stench of food wrappers and bones

The beds were stripped and tilted

The balcony door was propped open.

We found our steward down the hall and we were advised the room was off limits and we were to go to guest services to get another room!!??

Guest services said no and that was our room!!

We played ping pong between our steward and guest services til 4pm.

Two pigs were in our room and must have asked not to have any interaction with their room steward all cruise. He was very tight lipped when asked what and who was in our room on the previous cruise

  13. We were long time HAL cruisers who jumped ship to the Ruby last Nov. and won't be going back to Princess's competitor.

The main stage entertainment was the biggest reason.  HAL 's Pinnacle class ships used 20 minute BBC shows projected on the walls as their nightly shows. These episodes were available to view on your tv in your stateroom!!??

The nightly shows on the Ruby are what we used to see on HAL years ago...LIVE entertainment.

We are getting daily email ads and printed brochures in our mail box from HAL. Does that tell you they are suffering or what!!
