I look at it as a "once-and-done" purchase.  I consider a cruise ship a hotel, and I certainly like to be in a comfy bed no matter where I am.  Mine rolls up into a sack that fits in my 22" suitcase, and has it's own pump attachment to inflate and deflate.  Very nice for someone who can "pay the price" in back issues for sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress.

So, to me it's money well spent.

I also don't want to roll the dice on whether the extra padding they MIGHT provide is enough.  This way my comfort goes with me when I travel.

I hear you that is why these beds are really disappointing on a RC ship. I have a ton of metal in my spine and  it really sets me back to sleep on a terrible bed. I love the travel and we do what we we need to stay comfortable. I am not buying a topper to throw away under any circumstance.

We sailed in an Owner’s Suite on Allure in October and it was just as horrible as the balcony and interior beds we’ve had.

I was in a Grand Suite on Navigator right after the shut down was over, when my Concierge emailed me I told him I had spinal issues and could not handle the rock hard beds. Our bed was perfectly padded. I believe it had a memory foam pad on it.

Call me CA-weird, but I have a problem taking a large piece of foam on a cruise, and leaving it for garbage in the room.  And, because of this:

old foam mattress pad needs to be processed in a specialized facility

Not trying to be judgey, it just doesn't settle well with me.

I am not Cali but I have a huge problem with buying a mattress pad to carry on a cruise I just spent thousands of bucks on.

Royal knows there is a problem but continues to put these horrible beds in their rooms, unless you travel in a suite. Their attitude is pay up or shut up, I refuse to spend $89.00 on a blow up mattress to carry on a cruise ship. I will move to a different line. I have two future cruises scheduled and neither of them is on Royal Caribbean.

  5. Here it is 2023 I an on a 1 year old ship and in the worst bed I have ever slept on. The pillows àre worst! Also after paying several thousands for this vacation after a very tragic year we will be in worse shepe when we leave than when we leave. I messaged aheaD for padding and that was IGNORED. BED HARD PILLOWS HARD =getting sleep is  Hell! Royal will loose this royal. It iwll take me days to get over the terrible or no sleep in this aweful set up. Sleepless on Odyssey OTS

I hope so soon! I had to have surgery and it will be a long time before I can drag a bag!🤞

  7. no way I would do it. Last cruise on Carnival Dream our neighbors had 4 adults. one man named Walt who hated his mother in law and step daughter who were #3 in the room. They smoked and drank and fought for a week. Awful next door neighbors. we were happy to be off that ship.

Excuse my poor editing, I did not mean to hit send so quickly. Our next door neighbors were a family of 4 adults who had no consideration for fellow cruisers. They are the prime reason 4 adults with ages range from 25ish to 75ish do not need to pile in. They smoked in the room and on the balcony and Carnival refused to do anything about it. They were drun k most of the trip which lead to loud nasty fighting. Despite the lack of rest we had and the fact we could not use our balcony due to smoke we had a great time. we did not get a week of relaxation .

  8. Yay!! I hope that you enjoyed- I apologize again for not completing in time, but hopefully you were able to pull some info from the review still:

Yes I did, I do enjoy your reviews! I am so sorry to hear you have the flu. I think some on the Dream actually had it. The rumors were either 14 people or 14 staterooms, anyway they had fever body aches and respiratory-- the high fevers sounded like influenza to me. One poor lady came down with a fever on the morning of day 2 and was really sick and quarantined for entire cruise. poor thing.

Our favorite thing to do was all inclusive in Jamaica (we were on different itinerary than yours) It was a fabulous sunny Caribbean Day, they had an awesome DJ, great Jamaican Jerk Chicken and unlimited drinks. One guy in our group enjoyed way to much and the medics had to put him on the bus back to the ship-he could not get out of his lounger or walk and tried a new fashion trend of wearing the flipflop sideways. Silly drunk guy probably never knew he was in Jamaica and his wife was soooo embarrassed. My prayer was he did not get alcohol poisoning and he did not puke on the way back to the ship!

We had a great family cruise, very rough sea days but perfect port weather.

We had good service on the Dream. We had really great waiters in Main dining room, Ok service from room attendant, better than yours but not what we have had in the past, if that makes sense. Our attendant ask on day one morning or turn down. I said I would like both. He said Morning or Turn down. I said both. He said I come in the morning, will you be out by 9:00 ? I will come at 9:00 I said AM or PM? He smiled walked away. Really we are always out by 9:00 am but if we want to sleep in I do not want to feel obligated to get out! He did a fine job everyday but that sort of turned me off!!

Where are you off to next?? We are trying out the Adventure OTS in May out of San Juan. I have my count down ticker going again!

  9. LOL!!! That was me before Xanax. I had already tried the book, breathing, meditating, etc methods when I was younger to no avail.

Like I said, if you have a long term relationship with your MD, and explain your fear to him/her, they will likely prescribe something-unless you have one that is paranoid about prescribing that type of med.

I recently saw an ad on FB for one of the posher airlines(I think Etihad) that is now doing a 3 room "apartment" on their airlines with top of the line food, dishes, flat screen TVs in the "living room" and "bedroom", breakfast in bed, butler service and a shower. I wonder if that type of luxury would alleviate my fear LOL? But something tells me turbulence would get through there, too.

The first thing I thought was who could sleep on a plane! Not Petrified Penny , strange how cruising settles

me, flying makes me a freak show.

  10. Stacey,

By the way I am Penny, I feel like I sort of know you from your review. We have not booked our room, I am headed to my hometown this weekend to pick Mom up for the week and meet with the cruising crew to book that room! I have been to NOLA 4 times previously and have stayed at the Marriott Convention Center, and Marriott Canal Street. I have no loyalty to Marriott other than our cruising friends have loads of points with Marriott, I enjoyed both Hotels the last one I stayed in was the Canal Street location. We were in the Quarter in August and was tackled by a drunk man on Bourbon Street it was 7:00pm, not my favorite way to start a cruise!!! His friends were very sorry but he probably didnt remember a thing. This time I think we are NOT staying in NOLA but in Slidell. I live in N. AL and the rest of the group is in East Tn so we are driving. Considering we are driving down from AL Slidell La is on the other side of Lake Pontchartrain so it is on our way. We have not booked excursions yet either, I think I will get them to start looking at that this weekend. It will be interesting taking my Mom and her Sister with us- I have them booked into a Cove Balcony room, have you ever stayed in one of those? We are a few decks up in a regular Balcony room, the Cove balconies look interesting to me. I have to tell you that my Dad's home health nurse became family to us and I appreciate the hard job you do.

  11. Oh wow, my mom is 75, so sounds like it'll be a similar dynamic! It'll be her first Carnival, she did the NCL Sun a few years ago with my stepfather before he passed, so it'll be interesting to see what she thinks.

Dad decided that he wanted to cruise with Mom a little bit to late. To honor my Sailor Dad we are taking Mom. She did not have a birth certificate or passport which was our first order of business in planning this trip, all the document gathering and applications have been a good distraction since we lost Dad in the spring. She has the bug, I hope she loves it. Looking forward to hearing how the Dream stacks up from you! We are making great memories for our Moms!

  12. I think you could wait until intended prank victim goes in for the night, sneak to their door and decorate it with cruiseline Themed decor balloons ribbons etc.. Royal Caribbean logo type stuff with an envelope addressed to stateroom # whatever, and a note that says You are the Winner of the Cabin Drawing of the Day! Please take this to Guess Services to claim your winnings...

Of course you walk down with them excitedly to see what they won. Guess Services will have no clue what they are talking about, ha ha! :D
