  1. This is very true. But often Tallinn is the day before St. Petersburg, so you should bear that in mind when deciding what is best for you. I read a review of a family who spent all day walking around Tallinn, and then their teenagers were tired and refused to get off the ship on day 2 in St. Petersburg. The mom wasn't comfortable leaving them in the kids club by themselves, so she stayed behind too. But for physically fit people, this is a lovely walk both ways, and Tallinn is beautiful and lovely to explore on foot. But I honestly wouldn't push it if you are concerned about your strength (we had a 3 year old so it wasn't up for debate. Without him, we probably easily would have been able to complete the walk).

Totally agree here!!!! We took it easy in Tallin (taxi to top and stroll back)

Thank goodness we just finished two days of touring in SPB and we are exhausted 😩😂

  2. We just left port moments ago.....

We took a taxi to the top of Old Town and walked and site saw our way back down to the port.

Streets of Old Town are all cobblestone so keep that in mind if you have difficulty walking or are in need of a wheelchair or stroller (saw folks struggling with those)

Cab ride was a fixed price 20 Euro Rick Steve’s will tell you it’s too much but we sucked it up and paid for the convenience. It was super hot today and my oldest is very heat sensitive so no way should could have made an uphill walk.

Coming down was doable and with all the tall buildings she was able to stay in the shade for the most part.

  3. I am planning to take independent visa. Is it ok to DIY this port that way. Travelling with kids so want to be flexible. Thanks for any input.

It's not impossible but from what I understand most of the sites are very spread out and involve travel time. Assuming you are US Citizens? If so the visa process is lengthy and pricey but again doable if that is what you really wish to do....but often it's not much more for an organized tour thru one of the independent tour operators and you will see much more stuff then doing it on your own.

Do a lot of research if you wish to DIY. Getting around isn't easy there especially if you wish to see the "main" attractions.

  4. Thank you for the great review!!!! We go next month. 😊

    Question: St Petersburg

The Groups A B C they were for everyone with independent tours?

The ships tours weren’t involved with those groups?

First i have heard of them doing it this way this season so trying to make sure i understand it.

I have a private tour w TJ at 8:30 am

So i should be looking for paper in my room telling when/how to sign up?

Thanks again for the detailed review!!

  5. so bed by the balcony would have been better?

sofa bed and drop down bed would have been near the closet.

easier access to the balcony if kids are lounging around in their beds?

I don't believe the bed by the balcony is even an option?? I only saw photos of the Balcony set up like this.

If it was reversed then the pullman and sofa bed would block the hallway to get to the bathroom.

  6. We're doing St. Petersburg with TJ Travel. We just got an update from them changing our tour meeting time on the first day from 7:00 to 8:30 due to the changes in the port regulations. On the second day, our start time moved a half an hour earlier than originally scheduled, so it looks like they're working the changes into their schedules.

Thanks for updating! We are w TJ in July. I’m sure we will hear more when we get closer!

  7. We did a 10 day cruise in April of 2017 with our kids for Spring Break. It ran Saturday to Tuesday.

PACKED full of kids. Did then to be more teens then the younger ones.

Our kids were actually off for spring break those exact days but even those that weren't most were only missing a couple of days of school and parents decided it was worth it.

So yeah, I'd say you will have quiet a few kids on board.
