  1. Did you notice at what time of the night the my time queues seem longest? Was it during the peak dining times or even later after say 7.30pm?

    Avalon007,

We dine early so can only comment on those times - 6pm looked awful but you would think it might get quieter as it gets later - not as many families with children?

  2. There is moisturiser shampoo conditioner all free in little tubes replaced daily .complimentary continental breakfast , cereals and fresh fruit :)

    Seriously??

We are in a balcony stateroom on deck 12, and the only supplies in our room are the push button shampoo in the shower!!

I think Hogbay is pulling someone's leg! or is in a Suite!!

If you aren't lucky enough to be in a suite or better - you will need to supply all your own stuff Cruisers

  3. MicCanberra, (and anyone else)

My Time Dining has not improved, sorry.

We went to deck 3 on arrival, saw the lady who handles the traditional dining which turned out to be in the Grande Dining Room on 3 - and booked a permanent time and table.

Every night MTD still has lines. If you enjoy that type of thing, by all means - line up :)

  4. Thanks for the review, I look forward to comparing your thoughts and experience when I board in just under two weeks.

Hopefully some of the organising issues have been resolved or streamlined at least. I am also My time and am somewhat apprehensive about how well it will work, I like to eat around 7.30-8pm which is normally a bit quieter as most people prefer to eat earlier or go for late traditional. I was unable to book for the I-fly and North Star but have been assured we can book once on board, hopefully this is true and being a 10 night cruise, we should have a better chance of getting to try them than on your shorter cruise.:D

  5. Hi nanaof2

Hope the norovirus didn't effect you or yours on this cruise.

Right off topic here - how did you find the mattresses on Radiance as I have been reading some terrible reports about the hardness of them. Planning on the cruise from B2B from Vancouver / Honolulu / Sydney next September - good bed would be appreciated.

    Cheers [emoji41]

  6. You sound like a previous P&O passenger [emoji41] you will be amazed by RCI if you are.

Others have answered all your questions re Dreamworks, theme nights etc but just like to add that RCI don't seem to limit kids in their programmes, which is wonderful. There are "sports bars" too. Recommend soft drink packages for older kids then they aren't chasing you all day for a drink and they get souvenir mugs [emoji2] enjoy your cruise.

  7. Firstly you should wait till they go to sea first to see if they really need medication. It is a psychological condition after all and you could be treating something that does not need treating. If you lead up to the cruise convincing yourself that you need medication without trying to sail without medication you will be in a state of mind that you need medication like the placebo effect.

I can go to sea in any sea condition and not get any form of seasickness whatsoever because I trained myself psychologically that it was all in my mind. I used to serve in the Navy and used to throw my guts up the first time I went to sea. Eventually I adjusted my behaviour and attitude and trained myself that I could overcome it without taking the orange pills they supplied for sea sickness.

I think that is what everyone should do. It is easy and takes strong will power to do it and once it is done you will never get sick at sea again.

  8. I disagree, I wrote one of those reviews. I gave it 3 out of 5 overall which is not love or hate. A number of the reviews around mine are very similar ie a very nice ship which is very similar to X ships but is well short of X service levels. I think most reviews have also highlighted that K is overcoming teething problems. It's the first ship of its class for HAL and they are learning what works and what doesn't. They are definitely paying attention to customer feedback and we saw changes while we were onboard. The offering will continue to improve.

Just disembarked Koningsdam last week in Amsterdam and the service is approaching top class. MDR staff couldn't do enough for us, some of the friendliest, most efficient we have come across in years - oceans above our X cruise. The use of iPads perhaps has advanced the game for them somewhat.

Also appreciate the personal drink service throughout the ship, the absence of this on other ships is now becoming very apparent. A passenger has bought and paid for their beverages so don't really need to drink them!!

To Koningsdam herself, words don't do this new ship justice, beautiful, light, airy, quirky, unusual, amazing - thoroughly enjoyed every day on board.

Some of the fastest internet we have ever had on a ship for reasonable costs and we had laundry that we sent out in the morning which returned each evening. First ship EVER to turn it around this fast.

To HAL congratulations on a fabulous new ship - now just ban smoking inside and it will be perfect :)

  9. We've just returned from a cruise on the Pacific Pearl and I can confirm that you can take up to 12 cans each on board. You must have them in your carry on luggage and they must be loose. We took 10 cans each and had to remove the outer wrapping. Why I don't know but it was not a problem.

I would assume to confirm that they are soft drink not alcohol mix cans - UDL types.

  10. Well the solution is for HAL to make a deck of balconies "smoking" or a side ie; port or starboard on deck for example 8. If smokers truly just book a balcony cabin to be able to smoke unlike on other cruise lines they shouldn't mind where it is.

Or do smokers want it all - balcony choice, location, deck and to be able to smoke? While someone who smokes doesn't have the same choice balcony choice, location, deck and smoke free??

You see the dilemma with freedom - it's there for some of the people some of the time - never all the people all the time .........

  11. Adoptionmsw -

Couldn't agree more!! We have cruised the world however our base is Australia and the laws here regarding smoking are something we now take for granted. To then board a ship that allows inside smoking will be a bit of a challenge. Yes, I know the ship is majority non smoking - but seriously, cigarette smoke is pervasive - it should be just outside a never anywhere near a cabin, even a balcony!!

Smoking aside - we are on Koningsdam for the Norse Legends cruise on the 10th July, very excited about the ship and cruise. Will be following this cruise with 15 days in the new RCI Ovation in December - two near new ships in one year.

Now Royal Caribbean can do smoking correctly - around Aus anyway [emoji6]

  12. For me the smoking issue is not secondary. On our last cruise we spent a great deal of time in the library (round trip transatlantic, lots of sea days) which was adjacent to the casino. There were doors between the two areas which were propped open half the time allowing the smoke to flow through. I would get up and close the doors over and over often noticing casino staff standing nearby chatting. I put in a request to the front desk asking that staff monitor the doors. The response was they are too busy. For the same reason, we've never taken a verandah cabin. I would be furious if there were smokers in adjacent cabins who smoked on their verandahs. I don't know when HAL is going to enter the 21st century on this one. It's fully recognized that second hand smoke is dangerous. End rant...

  13. I am home in Sydney and went to babysit yesterday at my daughter's house. Discovered that the data on my iPhone was not working. When my husband arrived he found the same. We gave up and occupied ourselves with the dynamic eighteen months old grandson. By the time we got home it was working again but it looks like it was off for about twenty four hours.

But unfortunately we are used to poor internet even in the suburbs of Sydney so it doesn't faze us too much.

We will buy an Italian sim before our cruise as we did last time. The global roaming version should suffice to use on port days. We won't be buying any for the ship unless some major emergency comes up at home.

Fancy that - all our iPhones working in far North Queensland. Enjoying this review of Koningsdam - booked for 10th of July cruise!!!!

  14. To_dee,

We have been cruising for years now, both all round Aus, NZ, Europe etc. I get sea sick when I step in a puddle of water so I had to find something.

The best by far are Bonine tablets which you buy at the shop on the ships. We don't sell it in Australia but in this one the Americans have got it right. I just take one every night before going to bed and no problems.

Ask around, do the research but they work for people who get truly, badly seasick.

  15. Can't contain myself - did the article by Celebrity not say that 'Evening Chic' dress code provides passengers with a choice of "tux and gown or designer jeans and flirty frock" - a much broader field of clothing choice than the previous formal dress code had??? An attempt by Celebrity to please all of the people all of the time ..... the word choice seems to have been lost in favour of personal opinions 🤔
