General population is not the cruising population. Just the vaccination rate of the cursing population is 2 standard deviations higher than the general population. I would like to see the numbers for parents who got their vaccination right away and what they will do with their children. I’m sure they will do the same with their children. Remember most of the cruise community did get their vaccination as soon as it was available to them. That’s the population the lines are targeting. Not the general population.

I serve on the PTO board of my daughter's school.  After a recent meeting the 12 members sat around and talked about vaccines.  Every board member plus spouse is vaccinated.  Only one board member is planning to get his 5-11 year old kid vaccinated right away.  Everyone else said that we do not have long term safety data and that we will wait and see.  2/3 of us and our kids have already had covid, with no serious impact, so that weighs in too. These are all people with expendable income who travel.  I think that the cruising population will have at least 50% choosing not to vaccinate kids in this age range right away.

And some would say that its very foolish to vax a 5 year old after such a limited study for a virus that presents VERY low risks for them. The seasonal flu is more of a risk for 5-11 year olds but you dont see the cruise lines requiring flu vaccines even though a kid infected with the flu could spread it to others that could lead to serious health consequences.

True..no one has the right to cruise BUT the cruise lines do have a right to make as much money as they can without limiting the family market

Thank you.  I am one of those crazy people discussed here who hopes to cruise in mid-December with an unvaccinated 10 year-old.  My husband and I are fully vaccinated with Pfizer.  Why am I not rushing out to get her vaccinated?  Because she and I have already had covid and she's since been exposed to several super-spreader events  and never gotten it again (including a birthday party last month in which she was the only one to not get it; several vaccinated parents there did get it; I know that she didn't because she had two PCR tests within the week after).  I had an awful reaction to the second Pfizer shot that took about a month to get over and I am not going to put her through that until we know much, much more about the vaccine.  This poster is 100% correct; this age group has much greater risk of car accidents, drowning, suicide, homicide, the flu, etc. than covid.  Covid is around #20 in the risk of death for this group and almost all of those kids have serious health issues.  There is no long-term safety data on this vaccine and I look at it as a risk/reward calculation, especially given that she easily handled covid with no issues the first time.

Although we love to cruise and are almost Diamond Plus, I that realize that Royal may not let us cruise in December and that's fine.  We'll take our travel dollars elsewhere.  Royal is going to lose a ton of families if they mandate the vaccine for kids below 12, instead of just making us test daily or something like that.  Maybe others replace them, maybe not.  I guess that we will see.

  3. Can someone just confirm that the bus is waiting right outside the port when you arrive in San Antonio and you can board there and do not have to go to the bus station?  That would be great if anyone has ridden it recently. I'm arriving there a week from today.  Thanks so much--this thread is super helpful!

  4. Hello all,

I so greatly appreciate all the help I've received and hope that you can advise me again.

My parents want to go on a fall foliage/Canada cruise. Myself, husband, and 7 year-old daughter will accompany them.

The cruise I'm eyeing is on Norwegian, embarking in Quebec City on 9/21, then departing with stops in Canada and Maine before disembarking in Boston. A few questions:

    1) The embarkation date is Friday 9/21 but it doesn't sail away until around 6pm 9/22. Would we have the option to board on 9/22 if we decided to do so?

    2) My father really wants to see the St. Lawrence river foliage but for that we need to get on in Montreal. Those cruises are twice the price. How much do you miss by starting in Quebec City vs. Montreal? I'm not wedded to Norwegian by any means; this cruise is just so much less in cost than the other options.

    3) What will the foliage likely be like that time of year?

    Thanks!

  5. We were in cabin 3508 last week. There is some noise, but not bad..you'll be so tired it won't matter anyways. It was quiet by 11:00 each night.

    That is great to know!

I wouldn't be too concerned except that my young daughter will be in the cabin with me and I want to make sure that she can sleep at a reasonable hour.

I will definitely update once I know something new. Thanks!

  6. Since you have a US type booking, you should be able to change your stateroom to any available stateroom in the same exact category to which you have been assigned. You may want to move to a more midship location to minimize the amount of motion you feel.

Thanks! I'll call the travel agent. I would even prefer inside because I love how dark it is at night. :-)

  7. Has anyone stayed in one of these cabins? I am booked with my husband and 5 year-old daughter on the Transatlantic on 4/28. We did an ocean view guarantee (I wanted inside but couldn't get it) and my daughter and I are assigned to 3520. I was looking at the ship map and noticed that it's under the big theater. I'm wondering how the noise is at night for anyone who has stayed in this area. Thanks!

  8. I completely disagree with the last 2 statements. Enjoying myself has nothing to do with spending money frivolously. I guess not buying and spending a ton doesn't make me feel deprived though. I'd much rather go home with more $$ in my pocket after a fun vacation. It makes me happy actually NOT to spend, spend, spend! I'd also be much happier cruising on the cheap often than staying home. Just being on the ship is way more than enough to make me happy.

Hear, hear! My thoughts exactly. Not having drinks or buying photos doesn't deprive me in the least. Just being on the ship, enjoying the free activities and the main dining room, is more than enough for me. I use the funds saved to do more non-cruise trips. I typically got to Asia 2-4 times a year and Europe 1-2, as well as Hawaii/Caribbean. Currently in South Africa. Life is good!

  9. 7 day southbound Alaska for $360/pp (without taxes and port charges)

12 day TA on Allure for $400/pp

5 day Caribbean on Vision for $159/pp

13 day TA on Liberty for $360/pp

These are all in the last 15 months. The deals are there; I just look at prices daily and when I see something I like, I pounce. I tend to book about 4-8 weeks out which is often the sweet spot for prices, and I always book an inside cabin. It can still be done!
