On the Breakaway this past May... dog was at every port (St. Thomas, Tortola, San Juan) and when we got to GSC the dogs were sitting at the gangway getting on the ferry and coming back on the ship. Where the heck would you get something on a private island? Or I guess the better question is why? Do you think the island is not covered in cameras....

How bad is it that every time I see the acronym GSC I think of Girl Scout Cookies?

FYI, for the Negative Nellies, GSC is an absolutely fabulous cannabis strain.  I am growing some in my backyard as this very time lol.

  2. Booked on Millennium.

    Alaska SB.

They are having a 4 day sale.. "up to" 20% off. We have currently booked Qsine on day 6. Not sure if I need to cancel and rebook to get any sale price. Their stupid website doesn't provide details on the normal price or the current sale price.

Also trying to find out what night the "surf and turf" night will be. Don't want to spend money on Qsine when they are having the good food in the MDR.

    Anyone able to help?

    Thanks

  3. OP here.

    To qualify,

Generally we arrive at the terminal around 9am(ish) to go through security and check in, avoiding the long disney-lines to check in...... then we get told to wait in the big room as it fills up with other passengers. Around 11am (generally) boarding starts.

This is exactly what we did last month in Miami.

Again.. I haven't been on a Carnival cruise for a number of years. I consider my vacation started when I get on the ship. I'd much rather get on the ship at 11(ish) than wait until 2. Especially considering this is a short 4 night vacation. Besides, sitting in the "waiting room" gives me time to meet more people!

But thanks for the info all. Much appreciated

  4. Long beach, inspiration.

We embark monday the 12th. When I was doing my On Line Check In it gave me a 1.30-2pm check in time.

We usually are in line at 9am to be the first on the ship.

What is with this? If I go early will that be a problem? I've only done one cruise with Carnival several years ago. If I show up at 9 or 9.30 will they make me wait till the afternoon?

  5. We will be embarking from Seward this summer....

Anyone know if the port of Seward has sniffer dogs?

Alaska has legal cannabis and there are stores that sell edibles. I appreciate that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I ask those whose natural reaction is to respond with "MJ is evil and/or illegal" successfully fight that urge. I'm not looking to smoke anything. That would be disruptive, even for me (we vape rather than combust). Eating brownies or gummies won't affect anyone, including the puritans.

    Thanks.

  7. I've never been to Miami.

I have to drop my rental off at Enterprise at Doubletree hotel, just northwest of MaArthur Causeway.

I just found out that my favourite hat store (Goorin Bros) has a store on Lincoln Road on Miami Beach.

How long does it take to get across Venetian Way, and are there tolls?

We normally are in line waiting to get through security at about 8:30.. but Goorin doesn't open until 10am. A little shopping.. then back to drop off the car and then get to the port... and we are outside our comfort zone.... Not sure if the roadways back and forth from Miami Beach is one of those roads that are always gridlock.

Edit: It will be a saturday morning we will be there.. if that matters.

    Any thoughts?

  8. You are so right, and I sincerely wish this had happened. It is absolutely wrong under any circumstances to allow an alcoholic drink to be served to anyone underage. There are no circumstance under which this is an acceptable thing to do. If it were I in change, anyone caught doing so would be let off at the next port.

My god... aren't you the pious one.

My kids have been drinking wine at home since they were kids. My youngest is now 17. He doesn't particularly like alcohol, but he has permission to try whatever we are having. As a young child he would get a tablespoon or so. As he got older he got more. Now he gets a full glass of wine with the adults of he wants it. And for the record, here in Canada parents have the right to decide for themselves when their kids are mature enough to handle alcohol in their own home.

  9. Have you priced out dropping the car off at the MIA airport location? Enterprise and a few others offer free shuttles between their MIA airport location and POM.

interesting.... I did not know that. I did a quote and it was about $25 more expensive to return it to MIA. I will leave as is. A short ride to the port shouldn't cost too much.

  10. Anyone drop off a car here before?

Looks like it is a hotel, not a car rental place.

I did a mock booking, and the cost for a 2 day, 1 way rental FLL - MIA is over $200 if I drop off at their Downtown location, but only $90 CAD to drop off at the DoubleTree Grand. It isn't that far away from the Cruise Terminal... I am thinking it is too easy, but wondering if there is a catch.

    Anyone?

Edit: also... anyone know if they would have a shuttle from DoubleTree to the port?

    Thanks,

    M

  11. what can you NOT do with a classic package that you can do with the premium?

my wife usually has a few mamosa's over breakfast.

We drink wine, beer, fireball/coke, vodka/OJ, Mai Tai's and often the poolside daily ice creamy drinks (mudslide, grasshoppers etc)....

I am not too concerned about getting Grey Goose or high end rum etc....

I can be particular about wine, but as long as the red isn't cheap merlot swill, I can probably find something that I can live with.

    Will we be fine?

  12. Hey Mark,

I'm looking for a game as well as well...and have the same "hate/hate" attitude with Tom and coach:p

    Mike

perhaps we can watch some of the playoff games together while we are on our Jan 20th cruise together.... I see we have "other" interests as well...

  13. About the closest thing to a sports bar on Equinox is the Gastropub, was watching an NFL game in Sept. with an unruly drunk who didn't like Tom Brady. Not a fun experience but typical of a sports bar. Actually they have food and drinks and do have TVs with games on. It is right next to the casino where the bar also has sporting events. You may have to look around and find the game if it is broadcast at all. No guarantee.

I would have loved watching the game with your "unruly drunk" friend. I hate Tom as well.

In fact, I think most NFL fans hate him, as well as the cheater coach. Only the few from the Northeast like the team.

    All the best.

  14. I will be on the Equinox in a few months.

Wondering about the selection that is available for karaoke. Specifically looking to see if there is any songs by The Tragically Hip (not a big band in the USA, but everyone here in Canada knows of them).

If they do have some songs on their playlist, I'l love it if anyone that could tell me what specific songs they are (so I can practice....).

Also. If they don't have a specific song, is there an ability to bring our own karaoke version of a song on a memory stick?

    Thanks,

    M

  15. Jesus with everything that is happening now you are worried about Jan 2018. REALLY !!!

With due respect, I am not "worried" about anything. I was asking for the opinions of more seasoned cruisers who may have experienced something similar to this in the past.

Not exactly sure when you plan your excursions, if you are a last minute sort of person, but I am not. I enjoy the planning and researching aspect. I was simply asking so I am aware of what can be expected and what I might need to research.

But thanks for your sarcasm and angst. It is refreshing to know that people will still be rude when hiding behind a keyboard. (yes, that was sarcasm of my own.)
