  1. Hi all,

Sorry it has taken me so long to post. When I got to Orlando I met up with an old friend and I just wanted to enjoy the weekend and not be glued to my phone. Once I got home, I was so tired from cramming a 7 night cruise into 2, that I slept for 14 hours! I will take a look now and see if I can answer any questions that haven't been answered yet.

Bottom line, they did an amazing job. Everything was ready and wonderful and the spoiled us rotten with unlimited free drinks!

Did you get a look at the new deck 12 staterooms?

  2. Looks like panoramic view rooms in the new deck 12 cabins, just like Nav. RCI site is still showing them, and pricing them, as large ocean view staterooms, though.

Which I have gladly taken advantage of!!! (and if anyone can get a glimpse/pic of room 1864, it will be much appreciated)

  3. I'm also sailing in March. I asked to change my cabin to this deck. The lady on the phone didn't even have deck plans available to her (like they are on the site now). I got the pie shaped one to the side and am also hoping these are similar to those on the Nav. I'm thinking they've mislabeled them as Ocean View. I can't imagine them putting porthole windows on these things!

I called yesterday and booked one of the pie shaped cabins on deck 12. The guy I spoke with gave me the dimensions of the window. I don't remember what it was but he said it's much bigger than the typical porthole. Any idea what is directly above these cabins? Just worried about noise.

We also switched to one of these pie-shaped rooms (1864 on deck 12) last week for our August cruise. Very curious to get more detail about these rooms once she returns to service. While they are now on the deck plans on Royal's site...I'm wondering why they are not labelled as "panoramic" ocean view rooms and only as regular ocean-views.

  4. We just switched staterooms for our Freedom cruise in August. We went from a regular OV on deck 2 into one of the new rooms on deck 12 - the supposedly larger "corner" stateroom 1864 (and actually saved $150!). Is it expected that the new rooms on Freedom will more or less be identical to the ones on Navigator? Reviews of that room on Nav seem to be good, so I hope so.

  5. Sort of... If you go through the deck plan pages the new cabin types are listed on deck3 and 12, but don't show up on the schematic.

I regularly check the prices for our upcoming cruise in August to see if they have come down. I notice now when I go in and "mock up" a new reservation, they are offering the new deck 12 staterooms. I understand they have previously done this on Navigator. Has anyone seen any reviews of these staterooms yet? I've searched and searched but couldn't find any. I would consider switching to one of these, but would like to see some reviews first.

  6. The final day when everyone is ordered out of their cabin's, buffet is closed and everyone wandering around looking for a place to sit until they are allowed off the ship.

Agreed. The way the last morning goes down just seems wrong. After a wonderful, relaxing cruise, the hectic nature of that morning is unfortunate. Probably not feasible, but I would gladly push back the time you can start boarding at the beginning of the cruise if it meant you can get another couple of hours on the back end and allow for a more liesurely disembarkation.

  7. Maybe. The problem with the boutique is 4000 passengers and a 3 or 4 night cruise. They don't want to have tons of disappointed guests. Of course' date=' the lack of a formal night might decrease the demand. Even on a 7 night cruise on the Fantasy, some guests are unable to get the booking they want and at times can't get any booking at all.

I've always wondered if it was a conscious decision to not put this on the Dream due to the short cruises she is doing for the forseeable future. The Dream fills the niche of "I want to go on Disney but I have to do a short cruise (for whatever reason--money, first time cruiser trying it out, limited time off, ???) Frankly, unless I had a good reason for the short cruise, it would not be my choice. BUT any cruise is better than no cruise. And for DCL, the shorter the cruise, the higher the per diem on board spending.

Several years ago, the Magic had a pseudo-boutique on some of the longer cruises--basically it was a blocked off area of the gift shop with a couple of CMs doing the fancy stuff. I think that was sort of the trial run on the ships as this was well after the boutique was a major profit center on land..[/quote']

That's a good point about scheduling. Although, perhaps the demand will not be as great on the shorter cruises. If, as you suggested, some people may have chosen the shorter cruise becasue of financial reasons...they may not look to splurge at BBB. Also, since it a short cruise, families may not want to allocate the time for it. It is indeed such a money-maker, that's why I would be surprised if they didn't add it. Plus, isn't the area where it is on the Fantasy some kind of little-used conference space on the Dream currently? BBB would generate a lot more revenue.

  8. Oh, and this definitely isn't RCL's fault but flight costs in the US have become outrageous. Very early on I was lucky to find a "decently" priced FLL flight for my Legend cruise in March (only avail for 3 days until it went way up in price), but today all flights for all carriers for my cruise dates are up over $300pp ($800 now cheapest per person). Many on our roll call are trying to wait it out, but it has only risen $10-$20 each week. I flew to Rome for only $500 more than current FLL pricing

Add this flight cost issue, the CDN$ exchange, and now this RCL pricing model...:eek::mad::eek:

Curious to see where airfares go in the near future with oil/fuel prices tanking. The airlines are always quick to blame fuel costs for high fares. Now, without that excuse at their disposal, let's see what happens.

  9. Anyone know how well the Quantum cruises out of Cape Liberty are selling? I'm wondering because RCCL is doing an incredible amount of advertising locally here in the NYC area (radio ads, billboards, posters on buses, etc) for Quantum the last few weeks. It has me wondering if they're not selling particularly well. Wouldn't be surprising, given the pricing.

  10. We did the breakfast on Oasis last year, and the characters that we had were all from Madagascar (King Julien, Alex, and Gloria). They did a little dance and introduction. And they went from table to table (just like the Disney character meals). Our table of adults had fun. We're doing it again on Freedom next month.

Same here. We did it on Oasis last year and we had Madagascar characters.

However, as for the breakfast itself, it was very disorganized (there was confusion amongst the servers who actually had our table) and the service was poor.

  11. Do they always have organized activities they have to participate in? I guess I have the wrong idea of what this kids club is all about. Could you explain what a typical day your son had in there? What did he like? What did he dislike? I don't think our son will enjoy participating in their group activities. That is not his style at all.

Sounds a lot like our son. He wasn't a big fan of a lot of their activities (I can't really recall what they were exactly - although "gender wars" seemed to be a common one). As a result, he ended up not spending a lot of time in there. He can certainly stay in there and not participate in the activities, and I believe they have some laptops in there as well with pre-loaded games - but our son didn't care for those either. If I recall correctly, there is only one TV that would be able to be used for Xbox/PS/Wii (as well as other things), so I don't think they want it to be occupied by kids playing video games all the time.

  12. Just so know, he will not be able to go to the Edge and just play video games whenever he wants. Our DS, 12, would have been quite happy if that was the case. However, he really wan't able to play any video games in the Edge at all.
