  1. Yes, KLM is correct. The first year we called and called and called but could never reach anyone by phone. Finally they returned our call and said we didn't have to set up reservations. We just walked outside the terminal after customs and there was someone standing there.

We had no issues, other than a nasty surprise the first time when we realized that the money we paid was only for the luggage.

    Enjoy your cruise

    Any one know the cost?

  2. We do this. It makes sense $$ wise and selection wise if you bring a really good bottle of wine, as the markup is more than the corkage fee. Last cruise we brought 2 bottles of Chateauneuf-du-pape which were about $40 each. They had a similar bottle in the steakhouse for $95 or so. The way I see it is we "saved" $40 a bottle by bringing our own.

Whereas if you bring a $15 bottle of wine on board you really aren't saving much or anything as the markup is probably about what you have as the corkage fee.

And Chateauneuf is delicious, certainly a special occasion wine for us.

  3. I was on the NCL Jewel back in Oct. Only one $5 table. There were two $15, one $25, one $50. All with dealers at them with noone playing. Yet you had 15 people standing waiting to get on the $5 table. I talked with the casino manager about opening up another $5 table and he refused. I said let me understand, you would rather all these folks standing to walk away with money in their pockets than open a table. Yes.

NCL also used to have two $5 tables by the pool that were open on seadays but they have also done away with those also.

NCL doesn't seem to make smart decisions regarding table limits. I wanted to play pai-gow on a cruise in november, they had a $100 BJ table that was empty *along with the $25 and $50 next to it) that they would switch over to $100 pai-gow for me. I told them at $25 I was in, but no way at $100. The table stayed empty for the rest of the night.

  4. There are times to stand on 15 depending upon what the dealier is showing. Splitting 10's? wow

I know, sorry I meant standing on 15 with a 10 showing particularly. Drives me crazy. Also same thing as another poster said, not splitting 8s.

At least because Carnival has the side bet, a good quick view of the table is not to play with those that are betting it. It is such a bad house bet. Last cruise I preferred to play by my self than with the noobs on these tables.

But you will still see me at the tables in 3 weeks!

  5. The $6 Blackjack tables are great if you want to just sit around and play for a couple hours which I enjoy on a cruise, I am not there to go crazy. But if you are a semi-serious player, you may get frustrated at some of the players that will sit down at the table vs. a land casino. I have had a few instances of seeing doubling on 12, splitting tens, standing on 15s, etc. As long as you take it with a grain of salt and realize it's only a $6 table you will have fun.

Also, the match play with the signature cocktail looks great, I didn't do it on the last cruise, but look forward to taking advantage of it this time. Depending on how much you drink, I think it could lower the house advantage to pretty close to a nullity.

  6. I am sure that they are booked. I would go try to do a mock booking to be sure. We have an 8M coming up, had it booked for a year, and only got a price drop very early on. They have been sold out for 6-8 months. So to answer your question, that is pretty normal for that class booking.

  7. I think Tapi outlines it well. Most of them on Squaremouth or Insuremytrip are good. There is probably something in the coverages you want/need. I always get Cancel for Work purposes as my work is often fluid. It just depends on your needs and where you are going.

You can look at all the fine print before you get the policy, I recommend it to figure out what exactly you need.

  8. We sail on the Liberty for a 5 day cruise on May 4th; looks like this is the only 5 day scheduled for the Liberty and wondered why?

But my second question is the cost. I booked a balcony room with the Holiday Rate for 549.00 and I check the prices daily to see if they drop; and today it looked like the same room was now 339.00I got sooo excited! -BUT it turns out I plugged in the wrong number of people and put 4 instead of 2..... why such a large price difference between a 2 person booking and a 4 person booking?

Because the highest "cost" is in the room, so 4 people cost $1356 total versus 2 at $1098. You are sharing the same room, the extra cost of the other $260 is for their food, etc.

  9. Depends on what rate you booked. If you booked Early Saver, and the price drops, you will receive an On Board Credit. We did that with our upcoming cruise because we got Gift Cards, so it was no big deal if we paid it off early. If you are not early saver, you may want to wait in case you need to cancel for some reason, or if the price goes down.

  10. We went on basically the same cruise for our honeymoon last year except Nassau instead of HMC. All the ports are nice, and no real excursion needed. We took the skyride in St. Thomas, and rented a Golf cart in Grand Turk. What is your speed? I am a planner, so have no problem researching the ports. Also we liked exploring and walking around in ports.

Check out my wife's review linked below to see some of the stuff we did. She took lots of pics.

    Enjoy!

  11. Thanks for the info

    Where is the K-Mart?

How much better are the prices? Looking for that Cruzan Rum

    Safe sailing

Up the street from the port. You can see the sign from the Ship usually. For Cruzan it was $12 a handle in February. They box and package it for you so it is easy to take it back to the ship. I carried back 2 cases no problem.

  12. Good thoughts that everything turns out good. You said you were in NC right? I would call the DMV and explain the situation (maybe leave out the lost at football game part) and see if they can push it along.

Otherwise an option for you is to get a same day passport, but there doesn't seem to be a close location (Maybe GA or DC?)

  13. I am a firm believer that generally any place to stay in business in NYC has to be pretty good. As has been said, most places will be touristy to some extent in the area.

3 places that I love, have good service, and are reasonably priced are:

Sardi's on 44th btwn 7th and 8th Ave - Famous place to go before/after the theatre.

Joe Allen on Rest. Row - Good continental place that is pretty reasonably priced as well.

St. Andrews on 46th btwn Av Americas and 7th - Great Scottish Pub. Get the Scotch Eggs.
