  1. Guess I have different thoughts then you. I do not understand them being upset.

Upset because the cruise line changed course to save people? Not something I would get upset about. My cruise/excursion is nothing compared to saving someones life.

My understanding is that, no, they were not offered any compensation.

You are correct. A poor choice of words on my part. I should have said I understand them being disappointed.

As far as the compensation goes I know sometimes the cruiselines will give you some sort of onboard credit to make people more agreeable.

I know one time we left late out of Tampa because of fog and they gave us $15.00 each in onboard credit.

My own feeling is these people need to get their priorities straight.

  2. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. 28% of people who answered the survey on the Website posted by the OP said the Ship should not change its itinerary to rescue others. I can't even find the right words to express my dismay.

That speaks volumes about the selfishness of people. I am with you I don't have the words to express my feelings. All I can say people always get what is coming to them in the end, for some that will be real good, for others it will be horrible.

I was on a charter boat deep sea fishing for grouper off the coast of central Florida back in November. Our captain received a mayday over his vhf radio. You should have heard the radio traffic from all of the other boats scrambling to rescue those people. The last thing on my mind was catching fish or losing my $800.00 I paid the captain. All we did was say a silent prayer for their safety. People need to remember some day the shoe might be on the other foot.

BTW later that night when sitting at the tiki bar I saw SeaTow come by with the passengers wrapped up in blankets with their boat being towed behind them.

  3. No, I blame it all on crappy parenting.

I totally agree. I don't know if parents are too busy or too tired to be parents. I see a lot of parents that want to be friends with their children rather than be parents.

I remember a day when a teacher or neighbor chewed you out you had better hope your parents didn't find out because you catch the wrath of Khan when you got home. Now the parents would get up in the teachers face or threaten to go up the food chain.

Kids need boundaries and just because they are on vacation those boundaries should not be removed.

The story of kids running around by the wet deck of the pool speaks volumes. Having been a first responder for many years, no child should be let unattended anywhere near a pool or for that matter on any deck of a ship/boat.

  4. Everyone in my family including my 14 y/o daughter brings a passport and passport card. The card can be used as photo id on a closed loop cruise and we have the passports in case something happens and we need to fly back home.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

That is exactly why we got ours, just in case we had to fly out of a foreign country and back to the U.S.

  5. The Red Frog Pub does NOT serve food on the Legend. I have heard of it serving food on other ships, but the Legend did not. For the games, they do not charge and during the day it was pretty dull, but the bartenders and waiters kept you entertained. They had country music playing, and the workers sang along. It was only the evenings that James would play in there, or one night there was a young lady in there singing but didn't catch her name.

For those asking for the FunTimes, I need to scan them in.

    Thank You

  6. ditto! ditto! I totally agree with you; at least on my last cruise-a premier casino cruise-and the casinos were packed-took a long time to get a drink-even a ginger ale....

On more than one occasion, in casinos all over the world at Blackjack tables, I have just stopped playing and waited for my drink to show up. The dealer will ask, are you in, and I will reply when I get a fresh drink I will be ready to play.

Not that I am a big gambler, usually 1k a day, but at that rate I should be able to get a doggone drink when I want one.

  7. My understanding of all comps in every casino it is based upon the amount of time played and the size of your wager. Obviously someone playing $500.00 blackjack doesn't have to play as long as someone playing $25.00 Blackjack for same amount of comps. It supposedly has nothing to do with how much you win or lose.

I will say it makes more sense for the casino to comp you if you are winning because they want to do everything they can do to keep you coming to their property.

  8. Thanks for the reply. We will be on our 3rd cruise. Trying the Dream on an aft balcony. May have to use a towel to sit on too as often wear white capri pants. Thanks again.

You will have a great time. The Dream is an amazing ship. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we had a good time.

  9. First off let me say I thank God at least twice a day for my health. Also let me say I have the utmost compassion for anyone who suffers any form of physical challenge.

Having said that as soon I found out the room wasn't going to work and they had rooms available that would work and they wouldn't move me I would be raising holy hell or getting off the ship. We are not talking about a quick over night stay we are talking about a cooped up room on a week long cruise. If what the OP states is true, the attitude of the GS would have been enough to make me get off.

I am a planner. The nature of my job required me to be a planner. We always said fail to plan, plan to fail. Having said that I would have made sure the dimensions and accommodations I need would be relayed to Carnival in writing and I would have had their written response with me when I boarded.

With just a quick search of these boards and a quick search of Google concerning this subject I have gotten quite the education concerning Modified Cabins vs. Accessible Cabins. There is even a form Carnival requires you to fill out giving the dimensions of your scooter or wheelchair.

They also spell out the tendering policy.

With just a quick search I found these links

Having said all of this I am truly sorry you had a bad vacation. I am by no means a Carnival cheerleader. I had a situation on my last Carnival Cruise that didn't rear its ugly head until day two. I did not get a good nights sleep for the bulk of my cruise. Carnival did work with me on it and was very generous in their compensation.

I am just hoping people will remember when it come to being a consumer you have to cover your own behind and make sure you do all of your homework and get it in writing.

  10. Does the Thirsty Red Frog on The Legend serve bar food? I have seen a menu that shows, chicken wings, fritters and the like but then I heard the Red Frog on The Legend is drinks only.

Also do they charge for the foosball, darts and shuffleboard?

Do they have entertainment during the day in The Frog?

Being that I really don't hang out in the sun I think we will be spending some time in The Frog.

    Thanks, and loving your review.

  11. You give your S&S card to the boxman (at the craps table) or the dealer (at other table games) and they call a supervisor to rate you. At that point is out of your hands and in the hands of the subjective observation of the supervisor.

I believe to earn anything at the tables Carnival expects a minimum bet of $25, and at least an hour a day of play, but who other than the supervisor really knows? I know my wife often earns more cash in the casino cage than I and I believe only plays $5 roulette, so who can figure??

As has been said by others, both my wife and I play for the enjoyment, and know what we can afford to wager. If we get something in addition from the casino, it is all gravy!

    Kevin C

Yep it pays to be nice. My wife and I have a base bet of $15.00. We press our bet when we win and we usually keep pressing until we reach $50.00 a hand at BJ. We always play together on the same table. We took a seven day cruise in August of 2012. By the end of the second day we both had drink cards. There were a lot of sea days on that cruise so we gambled a lot. Like I said earlier we like to gamble and drink when we are on vacation.

We haven't cruised since then and had no plans to cruise this year but Carnival sweetened the pot to the point we can't say no. We are talking 35% off the going rate then $600.00 cash for me and $400.00 cash for her. Drink cards upon arrival. Priority boarding. Then they said get your best rate and call us for another 15% off.

We couldn't say no, especially since we are up $700.00 so far this year at the Hard Rock :>)

Remember gambling in entertainment. When it ceases to be fun or the money is coming out of another part of your budget it is time to quit.

We would gamble as much as we do even if we received nothing in return so getting all of the perks mentioned above has us really pumped for our upcoming cruise.

  12. The view is incredible. Definitely worth doing one at least. Very little privacy. You will get to know your neighbors. I saw mine in a way I wish I didn't. I saw directly into their room without really trying. The view is incredible you do see deck and water and when sailing out of port it is the best view on the ship. Keep in mind you get soot on your balcony when you are aft.

  13. We don't want to board the ship too early. If we arrive at the port at 2 PM will that give us enough time to get on the ship? We do have priority boarding. Also do you think our room will be ready when we get on.

I am glad I am not the only one who likes a good steak, a casino and 60's and 70's music.
