  1. I am trying to decide about the cheers program.....since my husband died of a massive heart attack in September :( :( our son is going in his place ... we had 2 cruises booked before he died....our platinum cruise was in November ...and then we had this 8 day cruise next month that he was SO excited about. Our son will be 21 in a couple of days after the cruise has ended .... (and I know this is wrong...and will get MANY ugly comments.....if I did get the cheers program for just me...since it is just the 2 of us ... I could basically split the 15 drinks between the two of us? I know I could come NO WHERE near drinking that many...I have maybe 2 specialty drinks a day ... and my husband and i had Bud Light most of the other time...because that is what we do/did at home ...... but how would I figure out if I would come out ahead doing the Cheers program? How much would it be on an 8 night cruise? With just one person?

I am so sorry about your loss.... If you and your son are sharing a cabin, then both of you will have to sign up for cheers. Everyone over 21 in the cabin has to get it, they don't let just one person sign up. You will be much better off buying drinks as you go, I think cheers will cost you about $800 for an 8 day cruise....

  2. So, me and DW will be on the Pride on April 20th, we have decided to try Cheers, we use cash not CC, it just seems like a lot to fork over 800.00 all at once just to drink for the week. Our rational is that we are only getting off in Port Canaveral to do Universal Studios (50 year old Potter Fan here) LOL Nassau and Freeport have been done many times, will stay on ship and enjoy empty pools and hot tubs.

Big decision and we hope its the right one.

if you stay on board and drink a lot, then you'll be ok, I think. I have a friend who did it and said that by day four or five, they were feeling obligated to drink their money's worth each day and felt cruddy by the end of the week. I think it depends on your agenda and drink preference. Are coconut monkey heads included? Enjoy it. It will be fun!
  3. I'm a newbie and was surely champagne suckered on our 1st cruise last year. hehe. I purchased a $2000 Alexander Chen and some other $250 painting after the adrenaline kicked in. It was a fun experience but not one I want to repeat.

I did get buyers remorse and quickly called Park West and asked to cancel my purchase once we got off the ship. I was charged a cancellation fee and that was the end of that.

DH had a good time giving me a hard time. He knew he wouldnt get in trouble for gambling on the ship after that move. Hahaha.

At the end of this month, we will be going on our 2nd cruise and THIS time I'm only going for the free champagne. No paddle for me!

Smart move! Here's the deal with these auctions, as I see it... They give you some champagne to loosen you up and attract people to the auction. The guy running the auction is almost ALWAYS British. I think they think that it sounds more elegant to have someone with an English accent running the auction so it feels "pricey". Then they tell you now great these artists are that you've never heard of and make you think that you are buying an investment. One time I was on an RCCL cruise about 20 years ago where people had written down bids for a How the Grinch Stole Christmas celluloid. The top winner was supposed to get it. Later that night when I was walking around the ship, I saw THREE of the same Grinch cels leaned up against cabin doors in the hallways. Apparently, all three were the winners on different decks. Scam!

  4. Ok ladies

Here's my quandary. I have a nice pair of 3 inch 'fancy' sandals I was going to wear with my dress on formal night. (we're doing my time dining if that makes a difference)I don't have the best ankles and wanted to wear a pair of flats instead. To describe them: They are flat-no heels- with a leather thong piece between my big toe and 2nd toe, and there is a strap going completely around my calf with a buckle at the ankle. Would these be appropriate? I think I should be o.k. but figured I'd run it by everyone here just to be sure. We're on Royal Caribbean if it matters as well.

    Thanks everyone for you help

Wear what makes you happy! Who cares what others think. Seriously. If you think they look good, then where them. If you aren't sure, then show cleavage and no one will look at your shoes. Snort.

  5. If you're a same-sex couple, that is exactly what you'll have to do. Unfortunately, Carnival doesn't do commitment ceremonies and will only allow you to book a wedding or vow renewal package in a state where SSM is not legal, if you first get married in a state/country where it is. Confusing, I know.

Yes, it is! I think we will go to Boston or somewhere for the ceremony. Doesn't matter to me where it's at. Whatever is least expensive. I'd like to think of our ceremony on board as the real deal.... I wish we had marriage equality in Florida....
