  1. Thank you for your review. I had this cruise booked in March but a week prior to cruise I was in an accident fracturing my hip requiring a total hip replacement. When I was in the operating room on the Monday the nurses were saying how nice my toenail polish was and I said I had planned on leaving for a cruise the upcoming weekend ....the surgeon pipes up “you know your not going right” ....yep I’ve already cancelled 😢. Eighth  cruise & first time using cruise insurance & it was overall pretty painless filing claim.

  2. Jplovestocruise, thank you for asking the question about the Haven experience. Also, Vyhaneck, thank you for your comments regarding the Haven on the Epic.

My wife and I sail the Epic in the DOS in November 2018. The last time we sailed NCL was 2007. Long before the Haven model and a lot of the new concepts being offered in cruising. We are so looking forward to the 11 day cruise on the Epic and in the Haven..

Any other tips or thoughts that come to mind please jump in with more info and that goes for anyone who cares to share.

Again, thank you jplovestocruise for asking the question! enjoy your next cruise!

I’ve sailed twice in a DOS on the Epic ....the greatest suite !

  3. Why did I lose you and why are you rolling your eyes?? I honestly don’t like bullies or people who are condescending, so don’t go there because I’ll be happy to go back and forth with you all day. The reason I feel that all four of us should have access is because if I only got the penthouse suite and put all 4 of us on there, then we would all have the perks. I’m actually choosing to spend more money and get a the balcony next to it. It’s not my choice that the cabin next to it isn’t Haven eligible. If it was I’d pay for it.[/quote

I think u may very well find what NCL tells u on the phone & what happens in reality will differ once on the ship so be prepared. I for example am booked again in an Owner’s Suite on the Jade & my sister/husband are beside me in a penthouse which has suite perks but no Haven access but would I excpect to take them into the Haven area ... No

  4. I was also on the Escape last week for 2nd year in a row ....ate at Cagney’s twice & loved it ...Moderno’s once ... we got our sides at end of meal ....the highlight was the piece of meat which was suppose to be a medium done cut but the poor cow was still mooing when it landed on my plate

  5. Four years ago 2 weeks prior to my cruise I was in an accident & fractured my knee & was in a full leg cast ....my first words to the ER doctor was can I still go on my cruise ? I went & still had a great time, never used a scooter or wheelchair just hopped around the ports on my crutches. The staff on the ship were fantastic i.e. at meals they always asked me if I wanted a chair to rest my leg on....airport no waits in security line

  6. Lets just say, this picture was after it quieted down....

And the little boy standing falls backwards & cracks his skull open .....it’s not the yelling etc as kids are kids it’s this potential for a bad ending. I have always booked the Haven but after the first time watching kids doing this I thought I take a weeks vacation from the medical profession I felt sitting there I was on call for an accident to happen. Sad part these are the parents who would likely sue NCL because the ship hit a wave & knocked the child over. I think it was the parents ignorance that bothered me the most. Now I walk thru eyes down very quickly & book a room on front of the ship where I can enjoy the breeze & sun. The Haven restaurant I find first day a bit crazy but I think after that the kids discover the Buffett with the soft ice-cream, pizza.

  7. Wow you paid more in penalties than I pay to cruise all year. Being rich must be great.

Would not say I was rich but I work full time as a NP, my husband owns a construction company and he works basically 7 days a week doing long hours....we've no children and we have one week a year so we make it count plus we donate quite a lot to local charities. My husband can get sea sick and the weather has not been good coming into NY not to mention it is freezing here so this is why I decided to switch.

  8. No problem. But, technically, you are not upgrading. They allow you to cancel your current booking (even though you are past final payment), and rebook a higher category at the current price with current perks. Make sure to review the perks you have against the current promotion. The perks you have don't automatically transfer because you are technically cancelling your original booking.

I would not say “no problem” necessarily ....For the same week this coming March I switched from a Haven Owners Suite on the Breakaway to the Escape in a Haven Owners Suite which even costs more & because I was past final payment I ended up paying for the 2 of us a huge penalty of over $5000.00. I book directly with NCL also. Yes I could have cancelled under “the no reason clause” and saved some but by cancelling you still have to pay the full amount of the new booking then wait for the paperwork to come fill it out then wait for money to come back on first cruise which I was told could be a minimum of 2 months.

  9. I am the original poster and wanted to do a quick follow up to my post from December 2016. OUR SON HAS REACHED ONE YEAR CANCER FREE! We've also sailed twice on NCL since then and have another cruise to look foward to this November. As a friendly reminder...males-do a monthly testicular self exam and if you notice any changes call your doctor immediately to schedule an examination. Early detection saves lives!

Happy healthy cruising to all in 2018.

This is such great news ! Thank you for the update.
